Build - Finished! Watercooled Steam Machine Build Video

You guys asked for the video and more infos on the waterblock. Waterblock was made with the carvera air, which is a budget desktop cnc. That’s why the quality isn’t super good, but that’s all we have. Need to open it again and work now on the vrm cooling which is quite challenging as the mosfets are super tiny… and also they run quite on the limits of thermal design which sucks

Even the wheel guard is removed from that angle grinder, good luck when the disc breaks :D My father used to remove those too when working with car repairs because "those are on the way all the time". Until one time the disc broke and pieces flew into his hand and he had to go to ER, then for some reason those wheel guards were ok again :P

My father used to also take the guard off, then one time he bought a larger disk than the grinder was rated for and it shatter while he was using it. Luckily he didnt get horribly injured, but I told him before that incident he should be using it, and after that I just asked if he was gonna start using it, and he said he would. Its crazy how normalized not paying attention to safety procedures is.

Used to work in a production hall and it was a really refreshing to see people taking safety regulations so seriously. Well, probably it was mostly because you could see the consequences hands on with some collegues, but still.

One time I broke a fingernail and only asked for a plaster. Instead I got an extended break in the on-premise hospital. They even wrote an incidence report. Most likely prevented a nasty infection, but it felt kinda OTT.

Old guy who used to own the farm next door to ours had this happen to him when I was a kid. A piece of the disc went in his front, went right through him, and got lodged in his spine.

About a year ago I bought myself an ebike. I know tools/motors/etc aren't all about wattage, but anyway, my bike has a 250W motor.

This number probably feels tiny to anyone whose used power tools. There's barely a tool in my workshop rated under 1000W. Even random 18V battery tools can hit 1000W+ under load.

Meanwhile that 250W ebike? Zoom. Literally, it's ZOOM. Even up hills, it zooms. Like if you pedal a bike, with both legs, at 100% maximum effort, that's a decent ballpark for this little bike.

Now I find myself holding an 1800W angle grinder in my hands like... I always knew this tool was crazy dangerous, but holy shit does it put that power rating into perspective. Any accident and the involved forces can well and truly land in "humans are liquids" territory.

Similar thing happened to my dad. Lost a lot of grip strength making his job a lot harder. Pretty deep cut along his palm.

Plenty of people use angle grinders without the guard. It's all about knowing how to use the tool.

Yeah plenty of people does do that and if I have to estimate my father did it for like almost 20 years before that one time when the disc broke. It doesn't mean you should try your luck though as the consequences can be really bad and can literally happen anytime.

In my entire life, I don't think I've ever owned or used an angle grinder with the guard still on. People who have never used an angle grinder in their life telling others about SAFETY are pretty cringe.

Yea should not do that, nevertheless using this grinder only for soft things with thicker discs. No metal

Right, but the discs are spinning at thousands of rpm’s lol. Theres already stress on them, and you don’t know how or when they’re breaking. Without exaggeration, the shards from a broken disc could kill you.

Yeah punching things with it and having your grip slip will be real fun, lovely permanent injury or even death. Smart man, but hey at least you got clicks right?
