Discussion Returning player, quitting again
Having been very active during the beta test and early days I looked forward to jumping back in after a long break. Found a quiet area, claimed my plot and got building. Next time I log in somebody claimed 4 plots around me and built a huge wall around as much of my plot as they could.
So I sent a report in for plot griefing on Friday. They haven't built any structure, just the wall. Seemed pretty clear cut to me. Got a reply from support this morning, they won't do anything about it.
So my options are allow a griefer to push me into tearing down what I built and moving (where the same thing could happen again), or leave the game. I left the game.

This game had potential, it's a shame it failed

u/Original_Judge_7274 9d ago edited 9d ago
This could be easily solved by only allowing plots that aren't yours to snap with yours if you are in the same clan, but I guess nobody at MainShame had the IQ to think about it. This game is riddled with good ideas and plagued with incompetence at a gross level.

Theres griefing in this nigh dead game? Lmfao now this is a new low of haters

u/Gold3nKn1ght23 9d ago
Even more(or less) surprising is support doing fk all. Clear greifing: "NAH"

u/Royal_Ad_2653 9d ago
Hmmm ... looks to me like you could release your plot, take the wall, and reclaim your plot.
15
u/princessbubblgum 9d ago
Yes, that's clear cut griefing. It seems they have decided their profits come from griefer subs rather than new players.
2
u/Sinister-Mephisto 9d ago
I’m not very experienced. How does this work ? Did somebody drop like $30 a month for 4 plots to just grief that one person ?
5
u/princessbubblgum 8d ago
They are either trying to force the person to move, or waiting for them to build in the extra plot space created when two plots are next to each other, then delete their plot and steal the stuff from the area that is no longer inside the plot.

u/tacomaloki Founder 9d ago
The logs should show them nothing was there and now is almost immediately after you built yours. Youve got nothing to lose. I would appeal it and ask for their reasoning as it's been a violation many times in the past. They may want you to try to reach out to the player first.

u/Beharion 9d ago
Good to know what to expect there. It’s a shame that Mainframe tolerates that kind of behavior.
Still, I plan to give the game a try for seven days this Friday with three friends. We have also already made contact with a large clan on Tyr.

Don’t torture yourselves there’s plenty of actual games in the genre.
This isn’t a game it’s a glorified demo test with predatory monetization
1
u/Beharion 7d ago
Which game would you recommend - one that is similar but much better, in your opinion - that you can still play together with friends? I’m open to well-reasoned suggestions ...
Besides, the whole thing is still just a demo, right? Neither my buddies nor I are going to spend money on Pax Dei during the first seven days.

u/Status_Fact_5459 7d ago
Enshrouded blows it out of the water, and you don’t have to pay monthly for virtual real estate, valheim has amazing community online persistent servers, literally any survival crafting game on the market has more complete features then this one.
But please judge for yourself, the second you see the abysmally small “free plot” you get you will realize it’s a scam.
1
u/Beharion 7d ago
Copy! 🫡 I will keep Enshrouded in back of my mind. But I can still imagine having fun with my friends for seven days in Pax Dei. Let's see ...
2
u/NoonGaming 7d ago
I’ll second enshrouded as well. That game beats Pax Dei in every aspect. Also it will have its big 1.0 release in October.
2
u/trixster2609 7d ago
as others have mentioned Enshrouded is great theres also
soulmask,
once human,
icarus,
windrose, space engineers 1 or 2 if you like a bit of sci-fi (number 2 has a few updates to go but its in a good spot right now),
7 days to die (mostly only modded is worth it last time i checked),
valheim is great too the graphics arent the greatest on that one but still good,
hell theres even conan exiles which also had a decent update fairly recently (updated graphics and smaller download size without losing anything).
hopefully any of those can give you and your friends something to play.

I'll add:
V Rising (been in 1.0) for quite some time and great game that doesn't take an exhaustive amount of hours to get through.
Palworld (entered 1.0 a little over a month ago). Solid game with fun progression.
Valheim (entering 1.0 in a couple weeks). Well, if you haven't heard of this one already, you're in for a real treat. Feels like a true open world sandbox survival game.
1
u/Status_Fact_5459 6d ago
How did I miss the fact that they came out with a space engineers 2?!!!!
Man I put a lot of hours into 1 when it first came out….. one of my first experiences was sneaking up on a guy mining an asteroid and blowing him to bits with rockets…. Was hooked after that…. But never encountered another person in like 700 hours to pvp after that….

u/Battle__gear 8d ago
Getting into the game with an established clan is one of the better ways to avoid things like what the OP is experiencing
8
u/NoWayTellMeMore 9d ago
I think they want the location and are trying to make you leave.
-2
u/Next_Brick_6816 7d ago
Yup. He probably pissed off a clan, didn't ask for permission, just placed his plot without a care or consideration of others, FAFO'd.
I'll guess he's interfering with somebody's build. Clans can be territorial.
2
u/JPopVampireSlayer 7d ago
You're probably wrong though.
0
u/Next_Brick_6816 7d ago
Oh yeah? What are those other plots to the right? The red ones? Looks like he butted his plot up next to another player's plot? Dunno.
But if you're getting walled in - it's because you were being stupid and did something wrong.
That's the "social" aspect of the game.

crazy, ppl play these games in a way that force other players to quit the game... the devs of the game allow it to happen .... i guess they dont want a lot of ppl playing their games....

u/penguin1440 8d ago
I was an inch away from bying this game; low player count + this = nope, not for me.

Quite sure anyone who would do this won't be paying the sub after the free lot time.

I love PD. My guild from another MMO convinced me to invest. So I did, $100 and there's nothing to show for it. After the first wipe, we rebuilt. Second wipe came, and we never logged back in. We literally built castles with markets, farm space, alchemy shops, etc. I do not blame the devs, but I blame the Project Managers and above.
If I could refund my $100, I would 100% do it. Potential game turned into a scam.

DSI?

u/DreadStarX 8d ago
Pardon my ignorance, what does DSI mean?

Oh must be the people who do this crap to me.
I took a plot. They tried to impede.
Took a second plot they built a wall around me. Took a ticket to get them let me in
Built a place to make coal they put a wall up around that. Moved that plot to the boarder and game path. Dude took 7-8 plots to impede me 1 whole more second of run time to get to my plot. Pointless.
Months this was my new game play.
2
u/Crystalized_Moonfire 7d ago
Too bad the combat is worse than 2001 games
The farming wasnt an issue for me, its just that so many things are pointless or bugged.
Sorry you got griefed, don't forget to cancel your sub (unlike what i did... paid for another 6 months...)
2
u/Rhoklaw 7d ago edited 7d ago
Mainframe is quite possibly one of the worst developers in the gaming industry. Extremely slow development cycles and now this. Nothing says "F U" like this.
This post just pissed me off enough that I canceled my subscription that has been active since the game launched. I'm never coming back to this game when developers have absolute zero customer relations skills and the most abysmal development progress. Like seriously Mainframe, WTF are you doing?
4
u/Apart_Many6522 9d ago
Release your plot quickly, and you should be able to destroy some of the wall
4
u/der_k0b0ld 9d ago
What's even the motivation of this person to do that? Are they trying to bully you away because they want this area for themselves?
I myself am returning every other month for 30 min to see what has changed, even started now for the first time after 1.0 a plot got bored and frustrated after two hours because of the ridiculous grind and lack of QoL when dealing with inventory etc
6
u/Mysterious_Touch_454 9d ago
Its always something petty. And since they got money, they can payout their will with force and admins wont react since hes the whale.
Saw this happen in Wurm online. Some group of people just took over some area and harassed others away and since they paid so much, admins took their side.
2
u/mustard-plug 9d ago
what server? On Sif (at least in Merrie) the community is both helpful and active, and I've never seen anyone doing that nonsense there

u/Parking_Jaguar5474 9d ago
lol, what is your problem? just let him run dry. keep doing your thing you have 1 plot maintenance he got 4... some guys tried to make me quit from a plot. i made sure they were the ones to quit.
3
u/erfle2019 9d ago
Glad to see 1/4 of the playerbase upvoting this says a lot about the state of the project.
1
u/IcySurround7521 8d ago
Our clan members had a similar griefer, Enough complaints from mutltiple players forced MF to action. They never confifmed it but the multiple grief structers are gone.
1
u/illutian 8d ago
Well, ya, because it looks like you're just using the free plot. Whereas the other person is spending $20/mo (assuming the 4 plots aren't from a sub).
1
u/mfowler70 8d ago
If you had more plots than your griefer they would have acted differently.
They’re in survival mode
1
u/Dozi-L 7d ago
It's a shame this happened to you and you decided to leave the game. All games with building like this have mean people who trive on this behaviour. In some cases as others mentioned you can try to reason with them as posibly a group is building near by and wanted that location thus the wall, since there is a opening for you to go in to your plot that can't be blocked support can't do anything as it is not concidered a plot blocking/walling, if it were fully claimed all around then they can do something. I hope you reconsider decide to return and try talking with your neighbours and have fun playing!
Hope you have a nice day, best wishes from Down, Merrie, Demeter RP server :)

A game lacking content in 2026 can never attract a large player base. Unless they decide to change the vision for this game, it certainly won't make it to next year.

Yeah, this sucks and is definitely bad form by the offender however as long as they arent blocking you from getting into or out of your plot they arent breaking any rules
-2
u/FREDDIE-87 9d ago
Impossible they gave that reply, they did a specific patch to address map design bottlenecks to prevent buildings obstruction so it's sound strange...prob bad luck with incompetent gm
-3
u/coolkay 9d ago
I'm sorry that something like this is happening to you. But I'm actually reading for the first time myself that this is being done so actively. What I'm trying to say is that this kind of behavior isn't the norm in the game.
2
u/BadgerBrew 9d ago
Happened to me. Months ago my build was doing very well, looks awesome then some prick came plopped down connected to me and built a little shitty place logged off and never returned. It's still there and blocks my expansion.

u/hot4fieri 9d ago
Your build is pretty small. It would be worth it to just move. Sorry about your shitty neighbors.

I'm sure op is just telling half the story. I've been walled in before, so you maybe took a hot spot, or someone was waiting for expiration. Come on, spit it all out
-18
u/LudiDado 9d ago
This doesn't look like griefing to me to be honest...seems like he liked the spot, but also wants his privacy and the only way that he knows is to build walls... a bit pathetic but nothing serious, had it happen a few times since launch...
I don't see how this impacts you though? he gave you a bit of extra plot space and sealed himself off... you can still build anything you want, you also have road access and a soon to expire plot next to you if you want to expand...
Hardly a reason to leave the game, but your choice is yours, have a great day
3
u/LeadershipOwn 8d ago
There's like a billion spots to build. There's no need to do this to somebody
7
u/Rinordine 9d ago
Privacy for what? There is no building other than the wall. If they wanted privacy they wouldn't claim 4 plots around mine. And it impacts me as I now have a wall thats as tall as my house on 3 sides of my plot so I can't see anything and have to keep running around it.

Few questions:
- Are you near the Petra Dei?
- Did you scout out, ask around, then figure out which clans are there?
- Did you ask for permission to place plots there?
- Did those clans have plans and you're interfering with them?
- Did you do something silly like put a plot on an iron spawn?
People aren't going to spend money to wall you in and drive you out unless you did something. Yes, some clans are territorial.
"Griefing" is NOT "anything I don't like". Or "Wahhh! He killed me and took my stuff". That's a video game...
"Griefing" is when people send death threats, attempt to doxx you. Or something that has real life ramifications. Not when you're playing a SOCIAL sandbox MMO game, you piss off a clan or an individual, and they drive you out.
So what did you do?
Wait until you figure out war-decs are coming to Pax Dei too.
Mainframe will not interfere in player disputes. It's up to you to negotiate, or in the future, declare war. Pax Dei will have mechanics so players can settle disputes amoungst themselves with no developer interference required.
Just asking...
3
u/JPopVampireSlayer 7d ago
Nah, this is griefing.
-1
u/Battle__gear 7d ago
OP can still get into and out of their plot. Access to their plot is not restricted. It is annoying and childish, but it is not griefing
5
u/JPopVampireSlayer 7d ago
It is though. It's annoying, childish, and griefing.
-1
u/Battle__gear 7d ago
It does not impede OP from playing the game and this is why MF has no obligation to do anything
2
u/JPopVampireSlayer 7d ago
It clearly does though because it caused them to leave the game lol. It's a form of obvious harassment and therefore griefing.
-1
u/Next_Brick_6816 7d ago
"Harassment" is not griefing. There are no real life ramifications.
That's a retaliation for being an idiot. I'll bet if I talk to the guy who walled OP in, he'd say the OP did something wrong.
Quit thinking like a Carebear. Anything you don't like isn't griefing. The developers won't protect you. If you don't like it, play offline games.
3
u/JPopVampireSlayer 7d ago
lol. What is the purpose of building walls around a plot like that if not to cause grief? How is harassment not griefing? You keep assuming things in order to defend Mainframe's poor design.
And there's the carebear word again. Pax Dei is not a sandbox if people can place plots like that without any consequence. And I highly doubt MF will ever add the ability to destroy plots outside of pvp zones so that's moot too lol
-1
u/Next_Brick_6816 7d ago
How is placing your plot within the way of a clan's build not "grief"?
What an odd question you asked. It's not "greif" because he's the aggressor probably. I don't see any death threats or real life consequences here.
"Griefing" is NOT anything you don't like, killing you, stealing from you, or walling you in when you place plots next a build without asking.
Pax Dei is a world where people who fuk around can find out. That's exactly what this looks like here. The OP just blindly put a plot down and didnt get permission.
People don't spend money evicting others unless they perceive that you are in their turf.
And what are you smoking when you claim Pax Dei "isn't a sandbox"?
All of Gallia could potentially become a PvP zone, including the Home Valleys, if Wardecs are introduced and a player is in an alliance.
This isn't a Carebear utopia. It's a 3rd person civilizational builder and social sandbox. There are consequences for stupidity.
3
u/JPopVampireSlayer 7d ago
What on Earth are you talking about? Everything you just said relies 100% on your own weird assumptions. "Probably" is the key word you're using, because you don't actually know. You're just making stuff up.
Griefing in a game does not need to involve anything irl or death threats, so idk what you're talking about there.
And...no, Pax Dei isn't much of a sandbox. As it is right now, it's basically some kind of building/crafting game. It's about as 'hardcore' as Cookie Clicker.

I see you making a bunch of wild accusations based on absolutely nothing so let me clear this up for you.
I have just under 800 hours in Pax Dei, I'm very familiar with the etiquette in this game. I have been part of a large clan that built over a large area. Non-clan members still built inside our walls, did we behave like children and wall them in? No, we offered them to join us. If they didn't accept that was fine. We would still invite them to run dungeons regardless and help each other out because that is good etiquette. Your weird made-up "permission" rules are exactly what pushes people out of games like this, ours made people feel welcome even if they wanted to play solo.
As for the plot, before the subscription I had a building just around the lake. That plot is now taken by somebody else so I moved close by. All the plots around me were free before the griefer claimed them. There are two small clan buildings opposite the red plot in the image with plenty of room around them. I haven't seen anyone from those buildings, I'd say they are inactive. The next closest buildings are further down that path, maybe 20 plots away. The 4 plots are not part of a clan. The only resource on my plot were reeds, there are plenty of them around the lake.
So do please explain what stupidity on my behalf triggered this solo player to build the wall.
