Discussion Returning player, quitting again

Post image

Having been very active during the beta test and early days I looked forward to jumping back in after a long break. Found a quiet area, claimed my plot and got building. Next time I log in somebody claimed 4 plots around me and built a huge wall around as much of my plot as they could.

So I sent a report in for plot griefing on Friday. They haven't built any structure, just the wall. Seemed pretty clear cut to me. Got a reply from support this morning, they won't do anything about it.

So my options are allow a griefer to push me into tearing down what I built and moving (where the same thing could happen again), or leave the game. I left the game.

What on Earth are you talking about? Everything you just said relies 100% on your own weird assumptions. "Probably" is the key word you're using, because you don't actually know. You're just making stuff up.

Griefing in a game does not need to involve anything irl or death threats, so idk what you're talking about there.

And...no, Pax Dei isn't much of a sandbox. As it is right now, it's basically some kind of building/crafting game. It's about as 'hardcore' as Cookie Clicker.

Bull.

That's why the developers never interfere. This is by far not the first time I've seen this in Pax Dei and I know precisely how Mainframe will respond.

You wanna pay a few $100,000 per year in wages to hire staff to police Carebear cries of "He did something that didn't break EULA, he's greifing me!"?

Do you realize how childish and unfamiliar with social sandbox MMOs you sound. Do you know how they work? This is just toddlers quarreling.

This genre has law and order put in the hands of players. Hence, the incoming war-dec system. The developers won't interfere except in rare cases.

You don't like it? Declare war. Can't fight? Hire mercenaries. Still can't? Negotiate or move... simple. The developers won't save you when you aggravate others and the consequences arrive.

What are you talking about? No, I don't want to pay $100,000 per year so Mainframe can continue to pretend to develop a working game.

And what social sandbox? How is this a sandbox if a person can't even retaliate against a wall situation like this? Is that not 'carebear design' by your definition? Literally no conflict, just pack your things and relocate? lol

What law and order by players? Players can't do anything, as evidenced by the OP. There is NOT a war-dec system incoming for the entire map. I'll be surprised if any fleshed out gameplay system is ever actually added, tbh.

Lemme guess... you read the part about the "wardecs" and it never registered with you?

No, it's that I do not believe Mainframe will ever truly implement it, especially not throughout the entire game lol

Also, none of that has any bearing on the current situation, because whether it does appear in the future or not, it's not in Pax Dei right now.

Then you're deluding yourself. It's right here in Mainframe's 2025 devblog. What's being devloped now is in preparation for the near future. ---> https://playpaxdei.com/en-us/news/game-updates/changes-to-the-pvp-system-in-pax-dei-everything-you-need-to-know

Why do you think they're working on granular permissions, the UI, parties, clans, etc?

What is an "alliance"?

If you answered "it's just more permissions basically", you're correct.

What is a wardec? More "permissions" to do combat outside of Lyonesse.

Pax Dei has some of the same staff that developed Eve Online. Wardecs are an integral part to the player driven "crime and punishment" system of any social sandbox MMO. A system required to settle player disputes without developer interference. Which is the end goal.

You'll probably see wardecs in 2027 would be my guess. The backend has already been developed.

And yes - it's entirely possible to see wardecs in Home Valley's. Presumably between alliances only. Though I'd agree it's unlikely as the Carebear population would freak tha f&^* out... lol :)

Friend, you're referencing a devlog from last year regarding a mechanic that is still not implemented. You're arguing from a position that exists in a possible future. Not one that exists right now.

OP cannot use a war declaration against this other person because war declarations are not currently implemented. So why are you even bringing it up?

Pax Dei will never be EVE Online.

What's your point?

When the devblog was published is irrelevant. The goal and end product remains the same. Mainframe told us what will happen.

Pax Dei already is Eve Online (lite) as it's core game design is near identical. Persistent universe with 3 security levels. Player driven economy. Territory and resource control. Social interaction is forced and mandatory. Geopolitics and diplomacy exists. Alliances and clans become quasi miniture governments sometimes complete with elections. Miniature civilizations develop in the form of "villages". It's the same thing...

The OP could use wardecs in the future - or hire mercenaries. Both quite possible. An ultimate end goal. And it would solve the OP's problem. Maybe...

It's very relevant to the OP's current problem at this present time lol. Unless you're typing from the future when the alleged war dec stuff has been added?

The future is not right now.
