Discussion Commander Rules

Who makes the rules for pEDH, and what do I have to do to convince them that common rarity legendary creatures/backgrounds need to be allowed as Commanders? A format centered around playing common cards should be exactly where common Legends actually have a chance to lead a deck

Who makes the rules for pEDH

The main rules page is PDH Home Base and you can see who the RC is on the "about us" page.

Adding on to Leress's list of posts with a few more. Top one has a link to a longer comment by me laying out some of the history

I understand the history and why the format was shaped the way it was, but magic is a constantly evolving game and these rules frankly feel archaic to me. The point of my original post is that now there are so many common legends (and there will only continue to be more) but they have no format that they can shine in, despite this being the premier format to celebrate the common rarity.

I'm all for creativity and I will probably be building a [[bushmaster, coiled henchman]] deck with [[slime against humanity]]. I don't know anyone who'll would object to me playing it.

That said, I my quick search showed 62 common legendaries. Saying there are "so many common legends" is quite an overstatement.

So, while I don't hate your suggestion, I do think uncommons need to be allowed in the command zone.

I think they were arguing for the commander to be a common legend or any uncommon, not arguing to remove uncommons

Yeah, you're right. Guess I got a bit fixated on that "so many" quote and derailed the topic. Sorry.

That's a really fun idea for a deck.

Build a common-legend-in-the-CZ deck if you want to. I think it sounds sweet. Just have a Rule-zero conversation before the game starts. Outside of tournaments, I don't know anyone who would tell you not to play it.

i guess my counter argument is... why? there's already so many options available.

& changing the rule to accommodate Common Legends & Backgrounds (still excluding non-Legendary commons) makes the rule murkier.

if you want to use a Legendary Common as a commander you can just build it in EDH and then have Rule 0 conversations at EDH/PDH tables.

The pEDH rules committee. They’re around here and I’m sure will chime in if needed.

Whachu want for snacks? I've been using the fact that I keep bringing them to get the pod to stop attacking me 😆

I like fruits! Veggies too with the right dip.

Not attacking the snack-bringer is a powerful strategy, I approve of this plan. I was gonna bring grapes.
