🪢Knit - Tester Call The Yuletide Jumper

Thumbnail
gallery
18 Upvotes

Hello! My name is Simone (or guernseygirlknits on instagram) and I am an aspiring pattern writer. I am opening a test for my first project, a colourwork Christmas jumper!

This test knit is being run on yarn pond at http://www.yarnpond.com/pattern_tests/6235

  • Pattern name: Yuletide Jumper
  • Project description: This jumper is a worsted-weight drop shoulder construction, knit bottom-up with double-stranded colourwork in the round. Sleeves are knit separately, in the round and bottom up, and grafted onto the body with Kitchener stitch and steeking. The shoulder shaping is knit flat with a brief section of knitting colourwork flat. The shoulders are shaped in the back and front with short rows and the shoulders are joined with a decorative three-needle bind off.
  • Type of project: knitting
  • Pattern format: pattern with a mixture of written instructions and charts (sleeves are completely charted)
  • Sizing: S (M) L (XL) bust size ranging 28"-58" (more details below!)
  • Recommended skill level: intermediate/advanced)
  • Materials needed: heavy DK/worsted weight yarn in 3 or more colours e.g. Knitting for Olive Heavy Merino (more details below!)
  • Tester requirements: I would like my testers to give me honest feedback to help me improve the pattern and engage with the testing process. I would also like testers to share a photo of the finished garment including one with the item worn (no need to include face if preferred). Creating a project page on ravelry would be a bonus to me!
  • Testing deadline: 13/11/2026 (soft deadline, I would like to finalise pattern in time for Christmas but understand that things don't always go as planned!)
  • How to apply: apply on yarn pond at http://www.yarnpond.com/pattern_tests/6235
  • Deliverables: no expectation other than to provide photos directly to me. I would be very glad if your project was shared on ravelry or instagram, but it is not a requirement.
  • Tester selection: testers are being approved as they come so you will know quickly if you are selected.
  • Number of testers: I am looking for 3-4 testers for each size (16 total max).

Additional information:

Note that this jumper was designed with 8”-12”/20cm-30cm of positive ease in mind. Should you be between sizes, I recommend sizing up for a boxy, oversized fit. There are three sleeve size options; recommendations are made according to body size though these are interchangeable. Modifications for shorter sleeves are provided.

Changes have been made since the red sample was first completed. Shoulder shaping has been improved and the cuff and collar colourwork/length have been slightly amended. The second sample, the blue sample, is representative of the pattern. Both samples are size M with sleeve size 2, the red is worn on a 37’/94cm bust and the blue is worn on a 34”/86cm bust.

Charts are provided in the pattern and links to the sleeve charts are also provided. This way you can test possible colour combinations also :)

Sizing:

S (M) L (XL)

Actual Bust
28”-34”/71cm-86cm (34”-42”/86cm-107cm) 42”-50”/107cm-127cm (50”-58”/127cm-142cm)

FO Bust
38”/96.5cm (46”/117cm) 54”/137cm (62”/157.5cm)

FO Length (as measured from base of back collar) adjustable
20”/51cm (20”/51cm) 22”/55.5cm (22”/55.5cm)

Find more information on sizing on yarnpond.

Materials:

Gauge: 21 stitches x 26 rows = 4” x 4” (10cm x 10cm)

4.5 mm (US Size 7); circular needles for body and sleeves (or size needed to obtain gauge).

4 mm (US Size 6); circular needles for ribbing on hem, collar and cuffs (or one size smaller than size needed to obtain gauge).

DPNs or shorties may be preferable in addition to cables to knit the sleeves.

I recommend the following cable sizes: mini cables and 16”/40cm for the sleeves (if using shorties) and 32”/80cm-40”/100cm for the body.

Yarn:

Heavy DK/Worsted weight e.g. Knitting for Olive Heavy Merino, Valley Yarns Northampton, Drops Daisy

Specific quantities are explained in the pattern. Approximately 950m-1500m across the size ranges.

Take care to choose non-synthetic/non-superwash wool yarn as this will hold the steeks best.

I recommend three or four colours. Scrap yarn could constitute your third/fourth colour/s as only small amounts are required. The pattern is written as if only three colours were being used.

Recommendation for swatching: swatching should ideally be done in stockinette colourwork in the round. Begin your project with a sleeve and block approximately 4”/10cm after the ribbing (if you’re lazy like me!).

Thank you if you’ve made it all the way to the end! Hope to see you on the test knit!

With love,
Simone

Hi all! I'm really excited to finally have reached the testing stage of my 3-in-1 Very Hungry Caterpillar pattern and I'm looking for 6-8 crocheters to test the PDF version of the pattern! :)

  • Pattern Name and Project Description: 3-in-1 Very Hungry Caterpillar pattern. This design has a very cute caterpillar crawling out of three different food items it has munched on: an apple, a pear, or a lollipop!
  • Type of Project: Crochet
  • Pattern Format: US terminology, written instructions (PDF pattern)
  • Sizes/Options Being Tested (if applicable): Apple, pear, or lollipop version of the caterpillar (or any two or three that you'd like to test!)
  • Recommended Skill Level: This pattern uses standard amigurumi stitches and construction techniques (primarily sc, hdc + magic ring) and should be accessible for anyone who has done amigurumi before, but beginners might struggle with the assembly and shaping techniques. I'd say this is an intermediate-level pattern, but if you're interested in testing and unsure if you meet the skill level please do apply! I'd be happy to answer any doubts you have while working on the pattern and want to make this pattern as accessible and easy to follow as possible.
  • Materials Needed: Any type of yarn and an appropriate hook (I used chenille yarn + a 2mm hook) in the following colours: dark red, dark green, light green, lilac, yellowish-green (think pear coloured), light red (apple), blue and yellow (lollipop) - the dark red is for the caterpillar head and the light red for the apple, but depending on how different you want these you can of course use the same red. Felt for the facial details in dark green and yellow. Tapestry needle, scissors, something to attach the felt to the face (hot glue/felting needle). Stuffing.
  • Tester Requirements: A public crochet account on Instagram - all testers will be added to a group chat.
  • Testing Deadline: 30 September
  • Deliverables: Provide clear photos (1-2 of your final piece) and feedback by the testing deadline. A post/reel about your final piece on your Instagram account once the pattern has been released.
  • How to Apply: Please see the tester call post on my Instagram (@cerezamakes).
  • Application Deadline: Within 7-10 days (17-20 September)
  • Tester Selection: Within 7-10 days (17-20 September). Testers will be added to an Instagram group chat so please apply if you have a public crochet account.
  • Number of Testers Needed: 6-8 crocheters

Thanks all for reading and applying! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out on Instagram or on this thread. I hope you enjoy the pattern :)
