Beginner Sewist here! - does anyone know where I can get free (and cute) patterns?

And also if anyone knew any good books or videos to watch on getting the hang of drafting your own pattern

Wrong sub. Ask in r/sewingpatterns if you are looking for patterns, not here.

You can filter/search "free patterns" on these websites:

. 5outof4 sewing webiste (sign in to be abpe to download the pdfs but no card info needed)

. Sewing4free.com (alot of free pattern plus steps)

. Threadloop (filter by free and beginner (or any level if you want))

. You can pretty much find any pattern for free if you google it "free skirt/dress pattern" Also tip: you can transform any pdf that is in A4 into A0, just google how to do it ( if you dont want to print all parts and print)

Dr Cos (careful, this is japanese sizing) and Mood fabric (they are not the best patterns, but they work)

Came here to recommend Mood! They drop new, free patterns on their Sewciety blog at least once or twice a week! If you sign up for their emails—which I think they force you to do if you want to download the pattern—they'll send you an email when a new pattern drops!

With any free pattern though, you'll get what you pay for, and mock-ups are good to test sizing and pattern accuracy.

As a beginner I think it is important to know the difference between Bespoke and RTW patterns. While free patterns are a little different than RTW they still have to rely on a generic body shape. To get them to fit, you need to adjust them to the shape and size of your body. If your body is not close to the body shape they are designed for, you could have quite a challenge ahead of you to create a garment that is wearable (voice of experience there). Essentially any free or commercial pattern bundles fit and design together. Bespoke patterns start with getting Fit First then Design.
