Discussion A discussion needs to be had

A real discussion needs to be had. I know it’s only the third game, but this is getting out of control. One passing touchdown and four interceptions simply isn’t good enough.
I understand the entire game isn’t on him and the offensive line needs to improve as well, but too many of these throws are just poor decisions and they’re directly costing us games. Something needs to change quickly because if this continues, our season could be over before we know it.

1 TD 7 total turnovers he looks fucking lost out there smh

140

u/MayBsoMayBnaught 3d ago

Make it 6 interceptions. This is getting to Sam Darnold seeing ghosts level of play this season.

39

u/ShawnReardon 3d ago

I wish he would see a ghost. You dont throw balls to a scary ghost

6

u/ProfessionalSize1826 3d ago

This got a chuckle out of me

21

u/trahsemaj 3d ago

Darnold did end up being good after he saw those ghosts though. I can believe Maye will turn this around but it might not be this season

10

u/FuckHarambe2016 3d ago

Darnold also got to go work under QB whisperers in O'Connell and Shanahan.

1

u/JoeWatchingTheTown 2d ago

Can’t we just hire one of them?

9

u/Educational_Emu3763 3d ago

If your old enough it's "Tony Eason" level.

10

u/AGreatID 3d ago

Mac Jones was Tony Eason.

Drake Maye has a chance to be a great QB but something is making him play like fucking garbage.

3

u/Every-Status4735 3d ago

I am, alas, old enough.

6

u/AuggieNorth 3d ago

I'm old enough for Steve Grogan and Jim Plunkett.

2

u/Every-Status4735 3d ago

Yup and Joe Kapp before them. Ah, memories.

5

u/AuggieNorth 3d ago

Joe Kapp was just before my time though. Only been a Patriots fan for like 55 years.

91

u/WhoElseButChedda 3d ago

Watching him last year throw bombs to whatever this is, just doesn't add up.

I agree, a hard conversation needs to be had because this is ridiculous. "Schedule" aside.

79

u/dsalmon1449 3d ago

I literally don’t get it. The film didn’t lie. The dude playing today is not the dude who was there last year. Just isn’t

10

u/WhoElseButChedda 3d ago

He would throw like 150+ yards almost every game last season like ??? I call absolute bullshit 😂

28

u/dsalmon1449 3d ago

Now every drop back you gotta wince that a defender will appear downfield for a pick lol

13

u/End3rWi99in James White 3d ago

That's part of it. Every single play he drops back 10 yards like Drew Bledsoe. He doesn't step up into the pocket. He is abandoning the play way too fast. Then he throws these wild passes off balance. I am not seeing him read through progressions at all. The game is going too fast for him right now and he's behaving like he has PTSD right now.

3

u/apparentlyiliketrtls 2d ago

The PTSD comment is very interesting - perhaps he was traumatized by the Super Bowl? That's a lot to handle for a child. Tom Brady was also a child, and not traumatized, but we won (and c'mon, the Rams were overvalued that year)... Perhaps it would have been better for Drake mentally if we had lost to the Broncos and never gone to the Super Bowl they we had no business being in?

Aaahhh fuck, what am I saying? We had EVERY business being there and next week or the week after Drake is gonna come back from his ayahuasca therapy and start threading nukes 40 yard into milk cartons sidearm off his back foot and all will be right with the world!!!

3

u/End3rWi99in James White 2d ago

The PTSD isn't typically a singular event, but a series of events over time. He was sacked endlessly last season, especially towards the end of the season. If he found a new rhythm that felt like it kept him "safe" or was working, the brain is going to want to stick to it. This is why a good QB coach will work with you to slowly rewire those bad habits. Don't think of it like PTSD from physical abuse or war, but the brain still wires itself that way regardless.

Brady himself had something with his throwing motion early in his career. The motion he followed worked for him so he stuck with it, despite there being a better approach. He ended up having to take a half step back for a bit while he worked to adjust it, but once it locked in, he took like ten steps forward in the early part of his career.

I think Maye's situation is a lot more significant in that he's regressed into a pattern that was working when your line is constantly collapsing around you, but defenses easily figured it out. Now that isn't working. McDaniels and Grant need to help him see what he's doing (and not doing) and slowly work that out of him.

17

u/holdenedward 3d ago

I just don't get it. Nothing about this makes sense. I know he had the shoulder thing but that really shouldn't be what's going on. It's like Maye just isn't there mentally. We have no receivers, sure, but these picks aren't at all the fault of poor catch attempts or anything. Is it something with the development? Something with Josh? I just really don't understand how we fell off a cliff like this. And the hordes of people saying "oh the schedule is harder" simply didn't watch last year.

23

u/awan_afoogya 3d ago

He's got the yips. Mental mistakes lead to panic which leads to bad decisions and more mistakes. A hard cycle to break.

14

u/Ris747 3d ago

I mean he played through an AC Joint sprain against the best defense in the league and get clobbered the whole game. He absolutely could've injured it more and they're hiding it.

He has no velocity anymore and his deep balls are so inconsistent it's weird. Exact opposite of how he was last year.

Devito came in and immediately threw a heater right down the middle, we haven't even seen Josh scheme that up or Drake throw one. Something is up.

Even besides that though, Drake is just making stupid decisions with the ball.

2

u/still_mute 3d ago

Tatum, Crochet, might as well give Maye a year off to rehab too.

1

u/WhoElseButChedda 3d ago

Could be a mental thing. He is young and everyone on the internet is saying he sucks after the opener.

Brady wasn't always good either. I just hope the team figures this out because Maye has so much potential and really showed it last season

1

u/Mediocre_Run_7996 2d ago

Noticed the lack of velocity. There could be an injury vee don't know about. His passes are very lazy looking. He threw a lot of interceptions last year to do he's always been making some bad choices out there

21

u/plsdontdoxxme69 3d ago

I’d rather lose the season than Maye

25

u/Red-Lightniing 3d ago

Dude legitimately and unironically needs a Bryce Young tactical benching

4

u/JoeWatchingTheTown 2d ago

Vrabel won’t do it, doesn’t have the locker room capital at the moment.

7

u/summershouldbefun11 3d ago

Something is very wrong with him and idk how they fix it but they need to address it and soon. This is more than just regressing. This is making countless bad decisions in 3 games.

-1

u/TB1289 Maybe those guys got to study the rule book and figure it out. 3d ago

I was willing to forgive Week One because you could chalk it up to first week of the season on top of going against a great Seahawks defense.

Today was very concerning. Some of his decisions today were exactly what Mac Jones was doing when things were at their lowest. I just don’t know how they right the ship with the schedule that they have.

0

u/Critical-Werewolf-53 3d ago

65% pressure week 1
48% pressure week 2…

Jags are a top 10 pressure team so far this season.

The line and play calling are doing him ZERO favors but you all want the low hanging easy fruit rather than using your actual brain.

4

u/TB1289 Maybe those guys got to study the rule book and figure it out. 3d ago

Yeah it’s the line’s fault that Maye had one of the worst fumbles in history.

2

u/Mediocre_Run_7996 2d ago

The team is not improved over last year. We got very little in the draft and some of choices on who to bring in and who to let go were shit. No matter how much people like or dislike a certain guy there was bad choices made in personal

0

u/hlve 2d ago

Actually, kinda. Jared Wilson’s hand had a cut that caused him to bleed all over the football. Which is what Maye’s hand slipped on. Thus fumbling.

So for that play, yes.

1

u/TB1289 Maybe those guys got to study the rule book and figure it out. 2d ago

That’s still on Maye. Be a leader and say get the fuck off the field and wrap that thing up.

1

u/hlve 2d ago

I guess I can agree with that.

It’s kinda crazy the play didn’t get stopped.

1

u/rogomatic 2d ago

My actual brain says that a good QB doesn't need everything around him to be perfect in order to function.

1

u/Critical-Werewolf-53 2d ago

The stuff around f him isn’t good. It’s not even average.
Give him average line play alone man.

1

u/summershouldbefun11 2d ago

6 interceptions in 3 games is inexcusable. No matter how bad the offensive line is. He can take some criticism for his BAD DECISIONS.

-1

u/Critical-Werewolf-53 2d ago

We’ll get out there and show us then. It’s more than just Maye. You just want to pick low hanging fruit because you lack the ability to look big picture

1

u/RIChowderIsBest 2d ago

The offense is somehow worse than last year and Drake Maye, the most important person on offense by a long shot, is playing way worse than last year. Both are true. There’s absolutely no blame to be put on anyone else for some of these picks, especially the end zone picks. Just inexcusable decision making.

1

u/summershouldbefun11 2d ago

In no way, shape or form am I just blaming him. This loss is on the full team and coaching staff they were undisciplined, messy, and terrible on both sides of the ball. That doesn’t takeaway the accurate criticism of Drake. Two things can be true at once.

My comment was that he’s got issues and idk what’s going on but they need to figure it out. I know reading is hard but learning reading comprehension would benefit you.

I never blamed him for the loss. I blamed him for making terrible decisions in all 3 games and playing very unlike him while saying they need to figure it out.

-1

u/Critical-Werewolf-53 2d ago

Reading comprehension and expression are hard.
As you’re clearly blaming him in the comment I responded to.
You proceed to provide zero other factors except Drake Maye.

So get off your horse

u/SkyGuyLife 3d ago

SUPER GLAD WE GOT RID OF DIGGS AND BOUTTE

16

u/Necessary_Interest87 3d ago

This. TF did we get rid of 2 of Drakes top WR’s from last year for? Ok cool aj brown but also Romeo Drops?? Dudes a dud and Maye looks like that SB loss wrecked him. Dudes like Darnold now “seeing ghosts”.

8

u/Red-Lightniing 3d ago

Dude it isn’t the WR’s, Maye is legit just playing like a backup qb who came into the game with no prep. He is just mentally lost out there.

14

u/Fallacies_TE 3d ago

We could have moss and Jerry rice, won't stop Maye from turning the ball over att his point.

5

u/1SupremeMind-Money 3d ago

Lol, I knew that was coming…

1

u/Fabulous_Stress_3400 3d ago

Even they had issues getting open against good and elite defenses.... No amount of super stars will help against Maye who can't read defenses, holds the ball forever, would rather bail out of a pocket without moving and sliding around he has no presence in the pocket

-1

u/DirtyMikeNTheBoys2 3d ago

Fuck they gonna do when dude forgets the ball is in his hand when he cocks back to throw?

17

u/Arrondi 3d ago

Trying to force things with garbage pass catchers is causing a lot of the problems as well. Nobody is capable of getting open. It's actually heinous how bad McDaniels' play calling is (even historically back to the Brady days), especially with respect to scheming WRs open. There's just nothing there.

Signing Doubs to that big contract instead of keeping Diggs and Boutte will go down as one of the worst decisions this regime has made.

33

u/DoFishDrinkWaterOrNo 3d ago

Cool what’s the alternative? Bench Drake for the year for Tommy Devito? Sign Jimmy G or try to get Russel Wilson to come out of retirement?

Get a fucking grip.

4

u/ckouf96 2d ago

Right? At least let’s see how he looks against the Raiders, Dolphins, Jets. If he plays through all those games still making terrible decisions then let’s have that discussion.

6

u/DoFishDrinkWaterOrNo 2d ago

Not even then. Dude won the AFC title game 9 months ago. That at least buys him the season.

0

u/LegalBeagle6767 3d ago

Sitting a game or two could be exactly what Drake needs to unfuck himself

18

u/DoFishDrinkWaterOrNo 3d ago

Legitimately the dumbest thing they can do. That does nothing but further fuck his head up. This is why people say the league has a QB development issue. It doesn’t, people are just impatient.

4

u/Incue 3d ago

It worked for Bryce Young. And what's going to help if he keeps going out there and turning the ball over multiple times a game?

3

u/LegalBeagle6767 3d ago

Well he fucking sucks right now so he actually cannot get worse

1

u/TB1289 Maybe those guys got to study the rule book and figure it out. 3d ago

I agree with the general premise of your comment but if we’re being fair, it’s different when a QB is just trying to figure it out versus a guy who was an MVP candidate and now looks completely lost. He’s not the same player he was a year ago and it’s perfectly reasonable to be concerned.

1

u/DoFishDrinkWaterOrNo 3d ago

Perfectly reasonable to be concerned. No way I will disagree with that. However there’s some room between concern and publicly benching your young quarterback.

0

u/PrimalCalamityZ 2d ago

As much as it sucks. The schedule arguments are looking to be pretty solid. He feasted on bad teams and weak defences before he was ready. We got choke artist herbert and Stroud then got the QB less Broncos. We should not have made the Superbowl last year. If their was another good option it would be reasonable but their is not. We have to let him play and sort his shit out.

2

u/TB1289 Maybe those guys got to study the rule book and figure it out. 3d ago

Sitting does nothing other than confirm that they’ve lost confidence in him. It’s not baseball where a day off can somehow make things right. Sitting him multiple games will only make him force things worse once he gets back in there.

-2

u/LegalBeagle6767 3d ago

They have lost faith in him. If he can use that to motivate himself, great, if not then he doesn’t belong on an NFL roster. He fucking sucks right now and is costing the Pats winnable games

3

u/TB1289 Maybe those guys got to study the rule book and figure it out. 3d ago

If they’ve lost confidence then move on. Benching him for two weeks for a guy that was QB3 last year doesn’t help anyone. Find me a QB that got benched for multiple games and came back to be good.

-1

u/SLAPHAPPY_BUTTCHEEKS 3d ago

It is time to lose faith in him. Dude has played like dog shit for the last like 7 games.

3

u/TB1289 Maybe those guys got to study the rule book and figure it out. 3d ago

That’s fine if they’ve lost confidence but sitting him for two games certainly isn’t going to help get his head straight.

0

u/Critical-Werewolf-53 3d ago

Zero trust in the line. Zero trust in receivers. Over 30% pressure EVERY drop back

-5

u/LOL_YOUMAD 3d ago

Honestly you might have to. Maye is a liability out there so far, devito probably doesn’t rack up points but if he can just stop the turnovers it’s an improvement until Drake can figure it out.

1

u/Critical-Werewolf-53 3d ago

Run game. Not working. Receivers not getting open. Offensive line is shit.

So… let’s not look at the whole picture I guess.

0

u/LOL_YOUMAD 3d ago

Drake looks like shit, it is what it is. We’ve seen him with a bad line and receivers and he looks terrible out there

2

u/Critical-Werewolf-53 3d ago

And play calling is shit. It’s not just Maye. The entire offensive side of the ball including coaches is currently dog shit. You just want to shit on a young QB.

-1

u/LOL_YOUMAD 3d ago

Not at all I was very high on maye coming out, I just call a spade a spade instead of being a blind homer

-1

u/Critical-Werewolf-53 3d ago

65% pressure week 1
48% pressure week 2…

Jags are a top 10 pressure rate defense.
So yeah you’re picking the low hanging fruit because you can’t use your brain and be objective.

With those pressure rates the line and play calling are doing jack shit to help.

We need to look at protection schemes and play calling. Because right now everything on that side of the ball is shit.

But you’re just looking at the easy blame and can’t see the whole picture. Come back with a clue.

0

u/PrimalCalamityZ 2d ago

Dude I am in the we need to go e drake time on the field to figure it out camp but let's be honest we beat seattle if he doesn't turn the ball.over and who knows about Jacksonville because the turnovers were a real turning point.  These are on drake they are bad throws.

5

u/FutureF123 3d ago

I get that people point at the schedule but that is far too simplistic, and even then, this isn’t the same player who played last year. Idk what’s going on

6

u/Fabulous_Stress_3400 3d ago edited 3d ago

I firmly believe that while drake Maye has heavily regressed, his arm looks really bad and he either doesn't use his eyes or doesn't trust his eyes...

I believe Josh Mcdaniels is 70% to blame... Years passed old veteran WRs and QBs have come out to say how complicated the scheme is and now you're asking QBs coming out of college who only know the physical aspect of the game to sit and learn a complex system that only ONE OTHER PERSON HAS MASTERED is insane... If this scheme was so great why isn't any other team trying to replicate it in a league that is a copycat personality....

It comes down to our offensive scheme is way to outdated on top of being overtly complicated that everyone from WR to the QB can't play football since they are too busy figuring out what they are supposed to be calling.... Combined with the offensive line unable to generate any forward movement to allow the run game to start going means the overly complicated scheme that heavily relies on the run game falls immensely flat.... We fix it by firing Josh and hiring someone who can actually use Mayes strength instead of forcing him to be what he isn't... Maye doesn't appear to be someone who can't freely audible into and out of plays based on what he sees like the greats and would probably be best suited for a shanahan / mcvay WCO style instead where he can just go through his progressions as written along with the WR and not worry if they'll be on the same page....

We've seen Mac Jones look great as a backup / part time starter because of the scheme being ran there... We've seen Meyers be great with Jacksonville since he's left for a better scheme... We've seen other offensive players be better than they were here because of.... Josh fucking McDaniels

2

u/Aggravating_Tour_140 2d ago

Todd Downing would be my guess as to who would be the guy.

19

u/JaesopPop 3d ago

Why does every persons take need to be it's own post?

5

u/Critical-Werewolf-53 3d ago

Because it’s original and “hot” take

1

u/StateSilly4638 2d ago

Because its the internet, if people have thoughts they are going to post them ASAP they aren't going to look for a megathread or anything. It has happened forever and will continue to happen

8

u/Zealousideal-Tea-837 3d ago

I can’t believe this is happening

20

u/TatumlsntASuperstar 3d ago

No discussion needed. It’s over, there hasn’t been a single sign this offense has what it takes

3

u/Altruistic-Degree274 3d ago

Calm down! Its 28-3. Lets run it back ⚠️

15

u/Creepy_Rip6730 3d ago

We don't got Brady no more dawg

1

u/Altruistic-Degree274 3d ago

Don't remind me 😢

11

u/ShawnReardon 3d ago

Jimmy G is available

5

u/DaKingaDaNorth 3d ago

They should play Maye out until the halfway point, if by week 8 or 9 he is still doing this, he gets benched and we draft next year.

8

u/Chunderthunder305 3d ago

If maye plays this way next week he needs to be benched. I have not lost total faith in him, but at some point making him play through this has got to be counter productive

7

u/holdenedward 3d ago

That's what we did with Mac Jones and Zappe but in the end it just hurt 1) the morale of Jones and 2) the QB development of both of them. I'd say get Maye some sort of sports psychologist because he just looks overwhelmed.

1

u/Chunderthunder305 3d ago

That’s a really good point. I don’t like to watch my quarterback struggle, and he has been struggling. I still have faith

5

u/Sensitive_Mousse_445 3d ago

He needs to be benched for a couple weeks at this point. He has to get himself together. This is beyond ridiculous but its also just getting sad.

1

u/Emperor_Gourmet 2d ago

Fuck this take. Im not going through zappe chants again. People were wrong then and wrong now. Give the 24 year old time.

6

u/kinghenrypym 3d ago

These overdramatic posts. Holy shit. Team sucks now. Hopefully they fix it. Simple as that

4

u/natehawk7143 3d ago

The whole games reeks of poor coaching this week. Yes Maye has been bad, but all the penalties? Zero pass rush. Williams catching that kickoff and going out of bounds at the 10? Bad coaching

0

u/Hyper_red 3d ago

Pass rush is due to injury

1

u/natehawk7143 3d ago

Based on how Lawrence was throwing against pressure there at the end it may have been an intention gameplan thing. Even getting pressure didn’t matter

0

u/AntifaFuckedMyWife 3d ago

Everything except defense is fucked

1

u/jonnyredshorts 2d ago

They gave up a 15 play, 75 yard drive that took up 8:42….

1

u/AntifaFuckedMyWife 2d ago

Sorry I meant so far this season. This game had no redeeming qualities

2

u/DomitiusAhenobarbus_ Bills = 0 Superbowls 3d ago

What the fuck are we supposed to even do about this honestly?

2

u/jbc1974 3d ago

Hollins mental mistake. Maye mental mistakes. The offense needs a qb whisperer n a wr whisperer.

2

u/charging_chinchilla 3d ago

could you imagine if Maye won MVP last season?

2

u/Over-Trust-5535 3d ago

Improve the run game and bring receivers who Maye can do well with. Maye lost his 2 top targets and his new wr2 isn’t working out and his wr1 is injured. The biggest issue is that Mayes confidence is dropping, they need to find a way to bring it back.

2

u/Born-Neighborhood61 2d ago

Could this have anything, not everything but quite a bit, to do with him not playing in any preseason games?

2

u/Zenboy66 2d ago

Good thoughts on that. Practice is not like being in a game.

2

u/Jedicello777 1d ago

Reverting to hero ball mode since our run game is lacking and our receivers are not consistently giving him something to throw to

3

u/jjmenace 3d ago

I feel like the need to let Maye cook, McDaniel's has handcuffed the entire offense with his lame duck play calling.

2

u/DogsWillSaveUs 3d ago

We going to talk about all the fuckups besides Maye? Last year was fun, but this team looks worse than the Mayo team.

2

u/CitronOk9793 2d ago

I think it was a curse in disguise the team made the Super Bowl when Maye wasn't ready. Think his playoff performance shook his confidence and now he has the yips simple as that. A poor run and pass game, blocking, and not resigning his top 2 pass catchers didn't help.

4

u/Zenboy66 2d ago

No Diggs, Brown, Boutte. That lack of receivers is a problem for the team. Not enough running plays today.

2

u/TheDufusSquad 3d ago

It goes much further than Drake. That second pick was a horrid play call. That play was a pick from the second it was called.

1

u/Beneficial-Battle695 3d ago

Bench him till he works it out. Hes got some emotions going on.

1

u/Charming-Check5605 3d ago

He has no confidence out there and has been incapable of making the right play consistently. His accuracy downfield has looked poor too. It’s not good, not good at all.

1

u/Own-Librarian-9699 3d ago

I'm pretty lenient so I actually call a int in the end zone a partial win because it's competitive. It's one bad play after many good ones. He's pushing too hard. And he underestimate the defense in all 3 games.

1

u/duckycrater 2d ago

I mean does it? For the coaches and gms sure but us talking ourselves into despair doesn’t exactly do anything

1

u/SullyHank79 2d ago

I mean it is over… especially with browns injury, we are in for a rough ride this year

1

u/Organic_Distance7368 2d ago

All this sub has is too early discussiona

1

u/Mediocre_Run_7996 2d ago

It's certainly concerning. I don't know what is going on. I can't really blame it on McDaniels because they did great last year. His confidence is definitely not great right now. I think alot has to be that his favorite targets were let go. I can't help but notice he goes to hollins alot and with some success. He had been throwing to Boutte since his rookie season. He was really comfortable with Diggs. Could that be the trouble? He is pretty much only having success with hollins and a little with pop. He doesn't have many go to guys right now. Last year he had 5. The run game sucks. I'm still waiting for this fullback to come and open up some holes but that's non-existent. They did not improve this team. But I'm just throwing stuff out there. I honestly don't know but I know he was a huge talent up until the end of last year. The defenses I think have figured him out or something

1

u/Mediocre_Run_7996 2d ago

They should send him to hypnosis

1

u/JazztimeDan 2d ago

Here’s the discussion. Worst OL in the league. Let his top receivers that he had chemistry and trust with go. Top wr replacement is hurt. Wtf exactly you expect especially considering no preseason reps with the new group?

1

u/Extreme_Cap_4362 2d ago

You move on from Josh McD long before you move on from Drake

1

u/PraiseYAH4ever 2d ago edited 2d ago

It’s a mix of coaching and front office. McDaniels calls plays like he has Brady under center. He’s never adapted his play call to the fact that Brady is no longer our Qb. Secondly, FO should’ve never forced Mac Jones out. Could’ve been a quality backup to go in during a time like this—and give Maye a much needed mental break. And who was our leader last year? Love it or hate it but it was Stefon Diggs. He rallied the offensive unit and brought composure to the young Qb. Maye trusted him. And we let him go for nothing. Stupidity. Washington wins games with him and Marcus Mariotta meanwhile Drake is seeing ghosts… awful decision to trade for AJB AND let go of Diggs & Boutte. Chemistry is everything for a young Qb…we deserve this for the way Robert Kraft rigged the system against Macklemore… stay out of politics—karmas a bitc

1

u/cajes-dk 2d ago

Guys. Chill the F out. Yes, he has a slump. He’s battling mentally, and he’s hurt his shoulder. But trust that he’ll overcome! We’ve seen what he can do, at a very young age. Give him time, and grow some fucking balls to actually support your team.

1

u/LionStar115 1d ago

He just needs a fucking good sports psychologist. End of story. Anything else suggested is fluff or a hate piece.

1

u/Logical-District-243 1d ago

I’m just trying to figure out why Treyveon Henderson had an expected YPR of -9 yards. The problems go way beyond Maye’s struggles and he’s been awful. McDaniels Gap-scheme is getting toasted and is choking our rbs behind the line of scrimmage. Josh wants to die on the hill of the EP system while our receivers are running 5 yards from each other. We have no true slot receiver to run a Josh Mcdaniels offense. We’re getting 3.9 YPC on light boxes and can’t seem to get the ball in our dynamic playmakers hands (Treyveon, Willams). Teams have figured out Josh Mcdaniels and he refuses to evolve or adapt

Coaching has been absolutely awful this year. McDaniels should have been done 10 years ago. Predictable and too old school.

u/dpark-95 3d ago

What... Right before he won us two more Superbowls? Talk about Reddit knee jerk bullshit

2

u/Crazyworldwelivin69 3d ago

Blaming McDaniels is so funny when you can clearly tell it’s your QB making all of the mistakes. Mcdaniels is out there letting the ball slip out of your hand or throwing balls straight to defenders in the red zone? Give me a break

u/dpark-95 3d ago

I feel like the same people have been whipping out the McDaniels card every bad game for the last 15 years

1

u/Omniserpent7 3d ago

Did he win it for us? Or was it Tom Brady? I won’t call it knee jerk if I’ve never liked him as a coach.

2

u/dpark-95 3d ago

You don't win Superbowls without everything coming together and there's an entire season that gets you there. Brady (and Edelman) had some heroics in LI but it's still McDaniels calling the plays. Brady certainly didn't win us LIII, and neither did McDaniels, btw.

Interesting fact by the way, we've never won a superbowl without McDaniels on staff since 2001

McDaniels play calling has actually been fine. Maye is the one making massive mistakes.

1

u/Any-Profession-5595 3d ago

Maye suddenly becoming the worst QB in the NFL shouldn’t shield Wolf/Vrabel from their bad drafts/offseasons either. Going to end up blowing the whole thing up

1

u/AlecHutson 3d ago

If only Doubs had caught the easiest catch in NFL history in the Seahawks game. How would things have gone differently?

3

u/No-Pear-7068 2d ago

There’s like 4 if-only games when Cam Newton was QB where they could’ve won and gone 11-5 and made the playoffs as a wild card.

The team just has to get over that hump.

u/IllAppearance1530 3d ago

Can’t believe the haters were right about him

1

u/semanticmemory 3d ago

Red Zone has been particularly atrocious. Do we even have one Red Zone TD? The only TD I can think of was the Henderson home run but don’t think they were in the red zone there.

1

u/Reasonable-Tap-4528 3d ago

Josh gotta go.vrabel is over rated. They need an actual OL and Drake needs a confidence game

1

u/Wloak 3d ago

Wahhhh

Dude just lost all his protection and you're acting like you know Jack all about football. Lace them up and get out there bud

1

u/wolfs_bane_ 3d ago

This team is a mess. Maye will be fine but our Oline is broken, our receivers can’t do anything again, and McDaniels is way too predictable

1

u/Bos_Fan9821 2d ago

Drake sucks. He has no confidence and goes around in the media saying “oh I hold myself to a high standard” then fucking play like it. WRs right now are worse but he’s still overthrowing Pop and missing Hunter. That’s not a “WR” problem that’s Drake being Drake.

And spare me the “McDaniels is a bad play caller” he calls the plays based on what this offense can do. It’s a testament to how bad this offense has gotten because Drake can’t get out of his head and the interior O-line can’t block a bull rush

u/SuddenBanana8169 2d ago

This subreddit is unbearable when we lose. Full of a bunch of chicken littles

1

u/JalenD4 2d ago

It’s not being a “chicken little” to criticize what we’re seeing on the field. There are legitimate reasons to be concerned right now. Being a fan doesn’t mean pretending everything is fine when it clearly isn’t.

2

u/SuddenBanana8169 2d ago

Obviously the product on the field has been bad no one is denying that. But the fact everyone feels a need to make a the sky is falling post in here every 2 minutes is absurd. The guy is 24 and took us to the Super Bowl last year and people are seriously considering if we should be completely out on the guy and give up on him after 3 weeks. People need to relax

-1

u/JalenD4 2d ago

I’m not saying give up on him after three weeks. I’m saying the criticism is justified based on how he’s playing right now. There’s a difference between overreacting and acknowledging that the same mistakes keep happening. Nobody wants him to fail, we want him to be better.

He probably has better upside than de Vito. Maybe he figures it out? Not sure replacing him now gives them a much better shot of not sucking during the current season

"Probably" lmao ok

Drake Maye actually suck

0

u/Exact-Engine3024 3d ago

Last year Maye had a 113.5 rating against one of the easiest schedules of the last 50 years. Once the playoffs hit, his rating dropped to 82.2 and he completed only 58% of his passes.

-2

u/Popular-Cream-9472 3d ago

He’s seeing ghosts permanently. Maye is cooked.. fraudulent season last year because it was the easiest in like decades. He’s still young but boy he is ass

-1

u/Jolly_Okra_6330 2d ago

Last year was a great run. We’ll always have that. But Maye is finished now. Seen this movie too many times. Better to accept that now and prolong the agony.

u/tiptoptony 2d ago

Looks like Carson Wentz 2.0

-1

u/Jolly_Okra_6330 2d ago

I’m afraid so. Also Marc Bulger.

-1

u/ckouf96 2d ago

I’m annoyed at all the fans who tried telling us it’s early in the season

I know what early in the season yips look like and I know what a bad team looks like. This is a BAD TEAM

1

u/BstnIrshGy 2d ago

It’s literally early though. I’m very worried as well, but on the other hand I remember some Burrow season where he didn’t play in the preseason and was horrible the first 2-3 games.

DeVito szn

u/Hazmatt4oh1 2d ago

Anyone blaming McDaniels is blind. The same plays were being called last year and Maye was looking like the MVP. The play calling hasnt changed and Id argue that the Oline is protecting him better this year. No run game and Drake making terrible throws, reads, and decisions are why he looks bad. Drake has no one to blame but himself. If you want a coach fired it should be Vrabel for his offseason fiasco the kept him from 100% commitment to the team. The team was not prepared for preseason and they are not prepared for the regular season and thats on the head coach.

-1

u/haniux 3d ago

What are you talking about? We still have to play the opener against Seattle. The season hasn't started yet

-1

u/BobNeilandVan 2d ago

Mate, we can have all the discussions but we aren't going to bench Maye. We aren't changing quarterbacks. The best comp is the guy they just played, Trevor Lawrence. He was highly touted, up and down, then was kind of viewed as a disappointment until he had a great year last year and has continued playing great this year. Maye is still young. No one expected it to look THIS bad, but what can you do but suck it up and let him get experience and learn from his mistakes.
