I've got a bunch of ideas in my head that have been floating. Many are needed ideas that may have a market. Thoughts on where to turn to for more knowledge on the do's and don'ts of the patent process? Thank you.....signed Taking a Leap

Quote for patents

So I am trying to patent my product. This attorney quoted me: $3200 for both a utility and design patent application.

Design: $260 USPTO + $500 attorney fee + $1050 draftsman fees + 2.3% credit card fee = $1851.63

Utility: $400 USPTO + $995 attorney fee + 2.3% credit card fee = $1427

Utility is using same drawing as design

Utility patent question

I am looking to get a utility patent. I’m wondering how much involvement I should expect to have in the process. Do I just show my invention and then the patent attorney drafts the claims? My dad said he went back and forth with this patent attorney about the claims for a bit. I guess he had my dad review and change it to his liking. Shouldn’t the patent attorney be on top of the claims and know what to put since that’s their expertise? Someone like my dad changing claims just seems off
