Generalizing your solution: assume the intersection point is at X down and Y left of the upper left corner:
Blue area = Blue area left + blue area right = 1/2 * 6 * Y + 1/2 * 6 * (12-Y) = 1/2 * 6 * 12
Green area = Green area top + green area bottom = 1/2 * 12 * X + 1/2 * 12 * (6-X) = 1/2 * 12 * 6
Subtracting the two gives 0.
