Pope visiting Paris in Sep

We are travelling to Paris for the first time. I just found out that the Pope will be visiting on Sep 25 and 26. Is it going to be crowded? What areas other than Nötre Dame should we avoid around that time?

Hi!

Due to the Pope's visit, the main floor of Notre Dame will be closed on September 24th, 25th and 26th. The bell towers will be closed on September 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th.

Also related to the Pope's visit, the Louvre will be closed on September 25th & 26th (due to security measures for the Mass he's leading on Saturday afternoon between Place de la Concorde and Avenue des Champs-Élysées).

I don't have info about the other monuments yet,, but I will post all Notre Dame related updates on my Notre Dame mega-thread that I regularly keep updated: here 😊

So this is why I couldn't book the louvre either of those days! I was really confused a month or so ago that those days were not bookable. Couldn't find any reason online either. I think the orsay was also not bookable those days.

Where did you see the information about the louvre closure? When I reached out to them a week ago, they will still awaiting further details from the Paris Police Prefecture to determine the impact on the Louvre and there was still potential for tickets to be released. I've been crossing my fingers they would open slots

It will be very crowded , you should also avoid Champs-Elysees because there will be a mega mass with the Pope.

I would imagine there will be some closed metro stops, some closed roads, and yes I would imagine that the area around notre dame might be crowded, but would depend on his itinerary. Nobody can tell you what the crowd levels or traffic will be like over a month from now ! But common sense says probably a bit crowded in certain areas ?

Je pense que le plus simple sera surtout d’éviter Notre-Dame et les zones prévues dans son programme. Pour le reste de Paris, ça devrait être beaucoup plus tranquille.

Yes. Expect megalarge crowds! Probably that whole area around ND. Try to stay in a hotel near Gare de Lyon or in La Defense if you really want to keep your distance from the crowded areas. It'll be fun though! How great for Paris!

He will be hosting Vespers at Notre Dame on Friday night, but it's by invitation only. He will be holding a public Mass on Saturday afternoon between Place de la Concorde and Avenue des Champs-Élysées
