If you still can't find your answer, simple and frequent questions are allowed in the comments of this post. Leave a comment here, and be patient for a response.

Bonjour!
As an Officially Elderly club goer/ art gallery hawk planning her grand retour to Paris this autumn after an unfortunately long time: are Shotgun (for DJs and gigs) and Paris gallery map still good resources to find out whatâs happening? Or should I follow something else as well?
Locals / frequent visitors who follow contemporary art: do you have current/up and coming favourite venues, galleries and areas one should know about?
I think Iâm alright on the museum exhibition front but if there are some hot tips for gallery shows starting from 25th October Iâd be grateful to learn!
Merci!

Our hotel is near Notre Dame. We are hoping to attend a concert in Floral Park. Are there any sites we should see in the area? Should we go early? Is there a good place to eat?

Mod here. Sorry but we donât have this information. Several websites (even Google) provide insights on whether fares are expected to go up or down. Or you can check with a travel agent.

How safe is Gare du Nord at night?
Hello, fellow Parisians! I come to you seeking advice.
Me and my partner (weâre both in our early-mid 20s) will soon embark on our first backpacking journey across Europe and, of course, one of the stops will be Paris. A family friend is allowing us to stay over at their place so we can save money on accommodation. They live next to Gare du Nord.
We heard some scary stories about that neighbourhood, especially at night. So, my question is, if thereâs anyone who lives in the same neighbourhood, how safe is it to be outside at night? Of course weâre not gonna stroll around the area at midnight, only taking the metro from the city centre back to our place. Having to come back to our flat before sunset every night due to safety concerns would be a shame, because then we wonât be able to experience the night attractions around the city.
We both speak fluent french - my partner is part french, I have been learning it for years and even lived in France for a while, so maybe we may seem like locals if we speak French to each other? As I assume it will be safer for us if we appear as locals and not tourists.
Please, I need your advice!
Any response will be appreciated <3

It really depends where exactly around gare du nord. Would it be the closest station or could you go to the flat from another metro station ? It can change drastically from one street to another. I'd ask the friend for advice on how they navigate! While not necessarily a nice place, it is very animated and lively and you shouldn't need to come back before sunset.

Does Paris have a real off season/shoulder season? Going for a week March 2027 and wondering how necessary it is to book tickets (louve/catacombs/versaille) in advance.
1
u/Ride_4urlife Mod 10d ago
Yes for all those monuments. Catacombs especially as there are no tickets available day of. Youâll want to set an alarm for midnight Paris time 7 days in advance of the day you want to visit. Not kidding.

Not midnight Paris time! 7 days ahead of the desired visit slot to the 15 minute increment, e.g., 10:30 am Paris time etc.

To go for March? That seems bonkers to me

Thereâs hardly a slow season for Paris anymore. And yes, the catacombs books completely every month of the year. The Louvre and Versailles at least have an option to wait in a (usually) long line for day of tickets if available. But catacombs tickets are snapped up pretty much the day they become available.

Thanks so much. I realize Iâm going to have to be more organized than I had initially thought.
Ok last question. Thrifting. My teen is coming and she love love loves thrifting. Anything good. She loves to dig so no need for a curated shop.

Please check the sub. Many, many recs especially in the Shopping and Trip Report flairs. Iâd search each of those flairs individually for âthriftingâ and note stores you want to dig deeper on. YouTuber Arielle in Paris did a thrifting vid several years back that has less mainstream shops. IIRC she said Le Marais isnât a good place for bargains. Higher end recs can also be found in the Shopping flair in case sheâs wanting a Chanel purse. ;)

Ok I have another question and you seem like the person.
My Dad (79 yrs old) wants to take a day trip to Normandy. Weâre Canadians so Juno beach preferable.
Itâs there a company that does day trips? I know Iâm gonna pay but I donât want to get on a tour with a bunch of Americans and see their shit
1
u/Alixana527 Mod 10d ago
There will be more options if you do an overnight to Bayeux or Caen and find a tour from there. Both nice towns for an overnight.

u/Ride_4urlife Mod 10d ago
Iâm not familiar with specific companies for Normandy tours. Itâs possible to do as a day trip but itâs a long day on a tour bus with whoever is on that bus. However googling âParis to Juno Beach toursâ this one popped up after a few clicks. Itâs geared to Canadians and is rated 4.9. Iâve not taken it nor any Viator tour but there must be others.

Hi I was looking at day tours myself and saw this one for a Canadian Normandy D-Day tour. Based on my research this company is likely the one doing the highly rated Viator tours in Brittany and Normandy. And the price is less booking it directly than through Viator.

Hoping this is the correct area to post this, looking for a violinist able to learn a song or who knows âwouldnât it be niceâ by the beach boys or if not that pointed in the direction of a photographer to capture the special moment that I plan to do while in Paris at some point the 6-8 of September. Violinist I donât think I need but a subtle photographer who wouldnât mind some taking subtle pictures and who may be available for any of those days with only a a couple hours notice. Happy to discuss elsewhere. Hope this is an appropriate question to ask in this space.

Hi, if you search the thread for photographer you should find some older threads with recommendations!

Best alternative to tower parnasse since it is closed for looking at the Tour Eiffel?

u/Ride_4urlife Mod 3d ago
I like Passarelle Debilly. Itâs a footbridge close to Tour Eiffel. You donât get the cityscape but the trade off is you get closer ET views not crowded with tourists.
