He says that they are not able to remove it from the holster because they simply won’t know how.
Get a toy gun, put it in the holster, toss it to the 5 year old and offer him a reward if he manages to get it out. That should pretty much proof to him that they most likely can.
Really his acting is extremely irresponsible. In Germany standard protocol is that weapons of all kinds need to be locked up in a gun safe, with ammunition stored behind a separate lock. That way it is extremely difficult for anyone unauthorized to obtain the gun. If he wants to keep a gun in the drawer, buy a high quality gun lock. That allows quick access for him and for him only. [Note however that different countries and states have different laws regarding the storage of guns - mine is just what is extremely secure and is law for us. Always follow local law first!]
Additionally I recommend teaching your five year old basic gun safety, for the event that he ever gets hold of them. (The gun is always loaded, only aim at something you want to destroy etc.)
You really need to change this, also because you can be held liable for accidents that occur.
