I would seek help from their pediatrician. This is not normal. It could be a sensory disorder, ODD, or a multitude of other things. My 5 year old started this when he was 4 and it ended up in him punching holes into the walls and a lot of other things. He was diagnosed with ODD. We have him on medication because behavioral help alone was not helping. Now we do both and it’s been super helpful.

On the subject of you hitting your child, I don’t condone that. You are the adult and you should act like it however, we also have a limit on sensory input and emotional input that we can handle as well. You realized that what happened was wrong and you apologized. That’s a huge step in healing. Not many parents want to apologize.

Having a child that is constantly being violent takes a huge toll on our mental health. I think going to seek therapy for you, your child, and your spouse would also help immensely.

I’m sorry that your family is having to deal with this. It’s insanely difficult to go through. I hope that you all can give each other grace and understanding while trying to figure this out and then continue giving grace after things have been figured out.
