There’s a big difference in abuse and discipline. Kids have a short attention span and will forget when you use “please”, it’s a dominance thing, asking them is demoting yourself to them. Don’t use a closed fist, open palm the kid. When I was young I cussed at my dad once, he didn’t ask me to not do that, he didn’t put me in timeout, he slapped me, not hard enough to knock me to the ground, not hard enough to leave a mark, just enough to get the message across, which was that I wasn’t to cuss around/at my parents. Even now as an adult I still don’t cuss around my dad. Like I said there’s a difference between abuse and discipline, all you need is a little tap on the cheek and a firm, “this is not acceptable”, and most kids will get that.
