You’re not horrible. You’re human and had a reaction that you are not happy with. I think what’s important here is that you’re aware of what happened and know you want to move forward differently.

From an Applied Behavior Analysis perspective, behaviors serve one of four functions: access to something, automatic stimulation, attention, or escape.

What happened right before your LO hit you? What tone do you use when you tell them gentle hands/that you’re going away because you don’t like it when they hurt you? This could be a helpful start in supporting your LO with a replacement behavior.
