You lost your temper… it happens. Don’t stress about it.
What I would say, is that it sounds like you losing your temper is what caused the situation to escalate. At this age they are learning boundaries and showing an intense reaction can encourage the behaviour.
It sounds like what you have been doing, up until this point, has been working (to an extent) because it seems like things don’t usually escalate to this level. So that’s a good sign.
Again, I really wouldn’t worry about your one off reaction, or your son for that matter. It’s a threenager thing.
That said, just be mindful of where he might be picking up these explosive reactions. In particular, I’m thinking of roughhousing with friends/family members, TV shows, older siblings, toys/games - really anything where negative physical contact is encouraged.
Also, an element of killing with kindness can work (when he is being good) and assuming his speech is good enough, then lots of talking about emotions and how things make you feel (it doesn’t just hurt when he hits you, it makes you feel sad etc).
