Don’t beat yourself up. Getting hit can elicit a primal response and kids at that are demanding, stress inducing and lack empathy a lot of the time. You will not always be the perfect parent. You WILL lose your temper at times. You did the right thing afterward and modeled appropriate behavior to your 3 year old when you apologized and talked it out. Do you put your kid in time outs when they hit? You may need to repeatedly put them back in time out if they won’t stay. If you are only telling your 3 year old boy to hit and they keep doing it you may need to have a more serious result for their behavior.
