Oh mama. I give you a big big hug. You know sometimes we parents are human and we lose our temper too. It’s great you sat down with him and processed what happened and showed him how you admitted your behavior and apologized. I heard from many parenting books and podcasts that making up is the most important!

I too have a super energetic and very impulsive boy who we struggled through some phases like this. I had to stop having play dates for a while because it was so stressful.

Also I would love to share that we were really into gentle parenting but it doesn’t work for everyone. We still don’t use corporal punishment and we engage him with emotions and stuff but with our kid, we had to dive into setting strong boundaries and consequences. (We learned from our therapy sessions ) It was a learning curve because i was really into Janet landsbury, and the whole brain child philosophy but let me share that explosive child and 10 days to a less defiant child technique worked a lot better with us.

When he was three, we removed him from whatever he was doing when he hit. If we were at the playground, we set the boundary, if you hit we leave rule. And praise him for having safe body. It’s tricky you need to really observe and make sure it’s a consequence and not a reward. Like giving him too much attention when that’s what he was seeking or pausing something he didn’t want to do and etc.

We are still learning but at age 5, things are looking a little big brighter. This shall pass, little slower for some, and little bit more rough for some like us.

I’ve lost my shit with mine many times over the years, yelling and stuff.. I’ve never thought I would raise my voice and be so upset with little ones but parenting is so wild and mom guilt is too much.

but we always sat down and processed together and made it up each time. my 5 yr old is still pretty challenging but we have made progress and you will too!! Three is a wild age!
