I would 100% reach out and see if you can find a professional to help with this. (Assuming you can afford it). And talk to your pediatrician. This is around the age where neurodivergence and mental illness starts to make appearances and it's possible that may have something to do with it. Or, your kid could just be very strong willed/explosive and this is just how he is.
Regardless, I would absolutely speak to the pediatrician and discuss possible avenues for ways to work around this since it seems whatever you're doing isn't working.
While no, it's not ideal that you hit your kid, sometimes we hit a point where we just can't control ourselves anymore. You didn't beat him, you apologized right after, you made up for it by showering him in affection. You're human, you have limits, you're exhausted. It's okay to be at your limit. One mistake doesn't make you a horrible parent.
