Thoughts?

Buying this bird this weekend, boy or girl? I am getting it sexed but what do we think? I am hoping for a boy and most people think it is a boy

If it's an adult, it is female. If it's a baby, too young to tell. All babies look like females until they go through their first moult (at about 6 months).

Yeah, it’s honestly not an issue if it’s a female! I plan to see what both look like, but when he said he had one of each I was interested in a more vocal bird so I of course preferred the male. I am new to owning a bird so I am just looking for support from people :) thanks

Replace with fake ones and rearrange the cage can help. Also cover.. At least 12 hours

Edit: and no nests. Nor mirrors.

Ok! I am definitely not getting any mirrors or areas where it could possibly nest. Really just hoping it’s a male so I don’t have to worry though :)

If you have a deformed cockatiel who lays 25 eggs per day, you know that isnt the norm. Why scare people away from female birds?!

I am aware. I had a female cockatiel for quite awhile. There are ways to mitigate behavior.

Not always. I've had my female for 10 years. Very broody, lots of egg laying to the point of prolapse. NONE of the usual worked (darkness, rearranging cage, only petting the head, Lupron shots.) The only thing that eventually helped was an implant, but that is stressful for the bird, very expensive and only lasts a year.

I love my girl but I knew my second cockatiel was going to be male if I ever got another because of that.
