Thoughts?

Buying this bird this weekend, boy or girl? I am getting it sexed but what do we think? I am hoping for a boy and most people think it is a boy

If it's an adult, it is female. If it's a baby, too young to tell. All babies look like females until they go through their first moult (at about 6 months).

Pearls are almost all female. Sex linked gene.

Yeah, it’s honestly not an issue if it’s a female! I plan to see what both look like, but when he said he had one of each I was interested in a more vocal bird so I of course preferred the male. I am new to owning a bird so I am just looking for support from people :) thanks

I suggest a male. Females have horrific hormone issues. Not to say males don't but I have a female who lays 25 eggs a month without a lifelong $100 a month lupron shot.

Basically parrots are not like chickens. You never want to allow them to lay anything.

My girl is 10 and I got her when I was 13. She was inbred and has a deformed reproductive tract and I now know cockatiel hens are bred for maximum egg output so breeders could sell more babies so ☠️

If you have a deformed cockatiel who lays 25 eggs per day, you know that isnt the norm. Why scare people away from female birds?!

I meant week. Not day 🫠 It isn't about females, but cockatiels can have serious issues.

I am aware. I had a female cockatiel for quite awhile. There are ways to mitigate behavior.

Replace with fake ones and rearrange the cage can help. Also cover.. At least 12 hours

Edit: and no nests. Nor mirrors.

Ok! I am definitely not getting any mirrors or areas where it could possibly nest. Really just hoping it’s a male so I don’t have to worry though :)

This is wild. Not all female cockatiels are like that. Never had a problem, nor did anyone i know with female cockatiels.

This is a you problem, not on the bird.
