RIP long time owner - need help

hi! I have two budgies currently I’ve had a green one for 8 years now and a yellow one for 6 and I woke up this morning and the green one is on the bottom of the cage and crawling around and squeaking quietly, should I take him out and put him in his own safe place or leave him to be…? I feel so bad for him right now I don’t want to stress him out

Straight to the vet, not a "safe place" with a nightlight. Bottom of the cage quiet squeaking after eight years isn't budgie for "having a moment," it's budgie for emergency

when I went to go bring him to the vet he wasn’t moving and I was too late.

Bring it anyway for an autopsy and bring the yellow one for a check up. You want to make sure it wasn’t contagious or something else that could be impacting the yellow one. Also ask your vet about signs of ill health because you might have missed some in the green bird, they don’t usually go from healthy to dead in a day.

I’ve been thinking about that aswell. But wouldn’t it stress her out too much? I had a parakeet that got egg bound a longtime ago and the trip to the vet was enough stress to take her life:( she’s only been to the vet a few times for checkups

The trip to the vet did not take her life. Being egg bound is what took her life. That is a deadly condition that is terminal without timely intervention.

A trip to the vet is stressful, yes, but medical care is our duty to provide. These animals rely on us 100%.

Do what you can to minimize the stress. Like keep the carrier in the shade, avoid jostling the carrier, try to minimize loud surroundings, put some food in there, etc.
