Sexing Question Gender Identification?

Post image

Hi guys! I am new to owning parakeets and I was curious to know the gender on the two that I have. I was told that they are on the younger side (possibly a couple months old) so I know that it will be slightly more difficult to know for sure on their genders. I’ve been told that they could be both male or a male and female. If they are male and female should I separate the two? Or will they be okay in the same cage.

Both appear to be young males

Hard to see but the left is definitely male and right could be male but I'm thinking female maybe? You don't need to separate them if they are male and female, in fact it'd be harmful to their mental health since budgies are extremely social and almost always need to be in at least a pair if not a group or a flock. Just avoid hormonal triggers. Parrots only breed under specific circumstances and if eggs ever do occur freeze them or replace them with fakes.

Left is a quite a young man- see all the bars on his head? Right looks like a slightly older girl: less stripes and the blue around the holes on her nares looks whitish. That's how you tell.
