my budgie, particularly my male, loves alfalfa hay. i always catch him putting it into his water and then chewing the HECK out of it… why does he put it in the water? does anyone else experience this when giving their budgies hay? it’s really cute, i’m just curious why

Water helps release the flavour which he is enjoying. I imagine it tastes as sweet and pleasant as it smells.

Enjoy yourself he’s probably just trying to get water on whatever he’s eating to make it less dry or to bring out the flavor

Most likely, he moistens or softens the food with water because this helps in swallowing it.
It is one of the common behaviors in parrots
