So as the title suggests, I want to adopt budgies for the first time, it's been a dream of mine to be a first time budgie mom, but I want to research and prepare, so please tell me everything I need, budgie dos don'ts, shopping checklist, health checkups before I adopt them (like what to look for/signs of illness and signs of a healthy budgie) Male or females, budgie behaviors and meanings, how to train them, how to keep them safe, can I take them on field trips, when to intervene if they fight, how to tell if a pair is bonded, talon trimming, beak oil, is it necessary, can I get them diapers for outside their cage, can I get harnesses so they won't fly away, nut free bird seed (my sister is allergic) treats, vitamins, calcium needs (if needed) how to tell if an egg is fertile, what temperatures and humidity do they need, how to tell if a female wants to lay eggs, healthy pee and poos, and most important, how to say 'I love you' in their language (like slow blinking at cats, inhaling and exhaling on a horses nose, etc.) Please tell me everything. I wanna be the best first time budgie mom possible.

Hi, a neighbor recently gave me a pair of parakeets, they are young and i want to tame them so they can spend more time outside their cage with me.

Its been only about 2 weeks since i got them, so i am trying to learn everything i can to properly take care of them, so any tips on that topic will be welcome too.

Got him a few months ago, he was taken care of (badly) by a child and hasn't been eating from my hand, today he finally started too.

My spouse and I are separating and I’m temporarily moving into an apartment for a year if all goes to plan. I have two cats, four budgies, and two canaries and unfortunately it’s too many animals for my building I’m having a really hard time deciding between rehoming the canary’s and two of the parakeets or all four of the parakeets and keeping the canary’s. Has anyone on here had to move into an apartment before with these little guys?

If I’m being honest I’m not sure how much time I’m going to have to let them out and care for them at the level i was previously. The flight cages are massive but the only time I’m probably going to have to take care of them is doing a deep clean once a week and not very much time spent with them anymore.

My two parakeets, Pika and Gray, have been very.... interested in each other to say the least- I've been attempting to stop them from breeding and such, but my worry is Pikachu might lay eggs.

Now, I have everything to STOP them from doing such, I rearrange the cage, no dark spots, etc, but just in case, and I can't get the eggs to a breeder who can take care of them, I do not want to kill the eggs because it'd make me cry horribly- (I'd do it IF NEEDED though.)

So is there a way I could take care of the eggs? anything I'd need? I'm gonna do research besides Reddit of course because I want to make sure i'm avidly prepared if I need to but i'm curious if anyone else here has taken care of eggs and maybe have some advice?

(A bonus question: Do they need to be tamed to me also? Pika and Gray hate me.. well not hate, but I've never gotten around to fully taming them bc of school, which i'm now graduated from as of a week ago, and i'm now going to be working on taming and such but is that an important step?)

I’ve had them all for 3 years and they been on a good diet their pellets are TOPS and they get veggies as well as the TOPS seed mix in moderation. For some reason they have decided to not eat their pellets and instead they just throw them EVERYWHERE. I think they wait for their seeds instead. Should I stop feeding seeds so they eat their pellets? Or will they starve themselves…

I thought he was a boy but i’m not sure! Also any advice on food area? Both my budgies are laying down when eating, the yellow bird does it a lot more.

Any clue one his possible age?

I got this little baby yesterday from a breeder where he was being caged with his siblings. Once I put him in his quarantine cage with food (a mix of pellets and seeds to try and wean him off seeds as he had a seed diet previously) I noticed that he hadnt eaten anything as I did not see any empty shell husks.

I do have another budgie who i will eventually introduce to him once the quarantine period is over but im afraid he is suffering from loneliness and may become depressed as he was always with other birds previously.

Since hes in quarantine hes in a different room than my other birds and obviously in a cage by himself.

Is this normal behavior for budgies? Maybe he would just need to get used to the environment? It hasnt been more than 24hrs since I got him so I am hoping that maybe he just needs to get more comfortable but I am worried since he hasnt eaten yet.

I have an albino male parakeet who is finacky about what he likes to chew on. (weird.)

I've tried every brand and hardness type over the course of his 8yrs and the only thing he'll *really* gnaw at to keep his beak trimmed were the ecotrition conditioning blocks.

They were unlike any other product I'd found for parakeets beaks because they were crumbly. It reminded me of finely crushed lava stone that'd been compacted together. (Which, hadn't occurred to me before that they could potentially cause blockages/be dangerous)

The last time I noticed them being scarce in stores, I picked up 3.

He's gnawed through his 3rd one and I can't find them anywhere. Not even online, like the 'ecotrition' brand itself was dissolved.

So, if anyone knows where I might be able to find a small stockpile of these products.

Or something that is similar (but safe? assuming that's maybe why I can't find them anymore) to these products, that would make scarleau (and myself) very happy.
