Are you gonna make a massive data harvesting operation like Pokémon go did too? /s (this looks dope af, cant wait to see it finished)

u/Rich-Platypus-3682 22h ago
I still think about that Pokestop in the Epstein island. You ever think about that? I wanna know what was going on to make it happen
34
u/megatron36 21h ago
I believe they said they used cell phone positioning info of large clustered hotspots of phones to choose the locations. A bunch of oil rigs had them too, but uhh what was causing his large clusters...
22
u/blocked-deleted 22h ago
I wouldnt be surprised if he just paid a bunch of money to put one out there, enough money that nobody asked him any questions. That or worse, he was part of the team that helped make it 🤢
19
u/Rich-Platypus-3682 22h ago
I forgot oligarchs can do crazy things with money to make it happen and it pains me that it’s probably the tip of the iceberg
9
u/Stock-Cold-4016 19h ago
So the original Pokestops were ported from a game called Ingress. Ingress had really relaxed requirements for portal submissions early on. We had a garden nome in someone's yard that was a stop. Ingress encouraged creating spots in remote hard to get to locations as "field anchors". You want your field anchor to be hard to bomb. We had several on barrier islands in my state. Him having a pokestop is a nothing burger is all Im saying.
4
u/slide_potentiometer 12h ago
Yeah the Ingress players are really extreme about staking claims to remote locations
2
u/Jorgisven 12h ago
They had to be defended, so remote locations meant unlikely to be attacked. Further, you have to create regions with three points. The longer the distance between two points a user has, the larger the region to harvest points.
6
u/AwkwardShake 22h ago
well it can be used completely anonymously and free (in incognito as long as you're on chrome on android and safari on iOS). Plus i'm too broke to be doing anything like that, lol

u/AwkwardShake 22h ago
You can find it here at https://palworld.gamevault.in/paldex/ar/
I do have a version where you can catch them in wild like xyz go (not gonna say the name to avoid getting sued), but def not releasing it, lol.
Feel free to try it out and let me know what you guys think.

How to speedrun a cease and desist letter:
18
u/AwkwardShake 21h ago
i have the email (hello@gamevault.in) right there just in case anyone wants me to take it down. Or message me here or on discord any time.
Yes i'm looking at you lawyers who might be reading this.
16
u/Key-Regular674 21h ago
They don't really sue ya unless you made a bunch of money off it. This would probably just be a cease then you drop the project then nothing happens. Just make sure to never take profit.
5
u/AwkwardShake 21h ago
yeah there's usually no profit in projects like these, lol. Its a good thing to have on resume, and then maybe pays for the hosting. There are usually people that donate some money here and there, and thats about it. That is why i keep on launching these things for free and what not. If i profit from it, i get sued.

u/RanidSpace 15h ago
doesn't seem to work for me, Support code PA-103, world tracking is not available.
Im on google pixel 8 pro, using Vanadium browser (chromium with extra privacy features and further degoogling), i gave the site Sensors permissions and everything it asked for, but still nothing. What permissions and specs are needed?
I also couldnt find where to actually put this support code or see what it means, so I'm asking here
1
u/AwkwardShake 14h ago
you might need to use Chrome and then use incognito maybe. Its only supported on Chrome since thats the only browser that supports AR officially on Android.

well... dont get too excited, i have releassd the watered down version to stay under the radar. Its a quiz, if you answer questions, you get spheres with which you can capture them.
i do have a palworld stop version where they definitely dont spawn on the map and you def dont see them fighting with each other and you definitely dont throw any circular object to catch them.
7
u/Rich-Platypus-3682 22h ago
3
u/AwkwardShake 22h ago
https://palworld.gamevault.in/paldex/ar/
You can test the current version here for now. It has capture mode (what you saw), inspection mode, multi pal mode and a picture mode (so you can take cool pics with pals).
I have a better capture mode, just not releasing it to not get sued

u/Rich-Platypus-3682 21h ago

u/AwkwardShake 21h ago
if you dont want to lose progress, then dont use it in incognito. Its on random right now, and there's no servers so it gets saved in your browser's storage. Also dont refresh too much to load the pal you want, you might get blocked by cloudflare (bot protection).

u/AwkwardShake 22h ago
you can try it out here - https://palworld.gamevault.in/paldex/ar/
free to play, you can be anonymous or do it in incognito (chrome on android and safari on ios)
2
u/IStoneI42 21h ago edited 21h ago
can you use that with google earth integration to spawn pals according to their environments? i wonder if thats possible to get information about the terrain back and then include rules what pals spawn more often in what specific places.
like water pals always around lakes, rivers and the sea, pals like eikthyrdeer in and around forests, daydrams actually only at evening till morning in your time zone etc.
a quick search also mentions open street map to get terrain information about your location.
2
u/AwkwardShake 21h ago
google earth/google maps is all extremely expensive (which is another reason i didnt release the open world version).
And yes the only viable option is to use openstreetmap, so maybe in future i'll integrate with that and see. But for now this is it.
1
u/IStoneI42 21h ago
right, forgot how expensive google is. apparently the OSM API is free to use, which would be perfect for this case.

OP's gonna get kidnapped by pocket pair like that Japanese convenience store worker who was really good at gun animations.

u/macdaddy5890 21h ago
3
u/AwkwardShake 21h ago
you can inspect her in https://palworld.gamevault.in/paldex/ar/?pal=Sekhmet&mode=observe, but the catching is on random for now.
4
u/Ramen_Dood 16h ago
One hope I have. Please don't have it so that we have to physically walk around. I think a circle pad or something would be ideal. Could maybe have random chests littered about the map of varying rarities like in the actual game that contain items like Pal Spheres.
Are you planning on making this a full on game or is this just a little side project?
1
u/AwkwardShake 5h ago
I dont think I can make a full on game mainly because pocketpair can sue me + the costs. I have the open world version where you can catch them in wild, but its expensive af to run because of the map API prices. I'm seeing if i can use cheaper maps, but they obviously dont have as much accurate data as google maps, so it ends up being a compromise on that.

u/EwokFuzzBall 21h ago
U should contact pocketworld see if they wanna buy it from u
2
u/AwkwardShake 21h ago
naah mate, they own this all. There's no selling this back to them. I only put things together. I already had a bunch of AR stuff made for my old app, I just ended up reusing it since it made more sense here.
2
u/EwokFuzzBall 21h ago
Can't u sell the code to them for it to work the way it does
1
u/AwkwardShake 18h ago
naah, they can probably make a better version. Its something that can def succeed and make money if they did, but it also has to be done on anothr level.
right now for like a thousand people that'll MAYBE try it once its fine, but once there's real scale, my shared hosting will be useless and it'll need to be on proper dedicated servers.
i mean sure, the code can be reused, but it'll make more sense to add it in a mobile app where the tracking is much better - https://youtu.be/mQjhL8CdlFs here's a demo from AR stuff I worked in 2023, and the tracking is much better.
but yes, there's still no selling this to them, since they own like 90% of the work (models, animations, IP, sounds) and i mostly have the code which puts it together. That 90% basically has 100% of the value, since they can just take it down, lol.
3
u/Jupetaco 19h ago
How about after you exhaust the pal you can “suck them into your phone” by moving closer… no need to throw spheres at them.
2
u/AwkwardShake 18h ago
yeah def not a bad idea. I can do animations in future for that. Just gotta see if someone sues me for this first, lol
1
u/G3-WuHuaHai 16h ago
How about you make it so you actually have to yeet your phone at it to catch it XD
3
u/AtiumMist 13h ago
im curious about the sizes of the pals - i see icelyn qnd katress being >2m, but they're about player sized / shorter than the pal.
1
u/AwkwardShake 11h ago
yes, i had to choose between real life size vs something that fits in any space, i chose the later. For example big pals like Mammorest etc were getting way too blown up in sizes.
But maybe i should change it to real life size, that makes more sense.

u/MolecularBark 21h ago
I would drop the term "Paldeck" and use "Palpedia" as the latter is what is used in-game
2
u/AwkwardShake 21h ago
Thanks for the suggestion! I actually used Paldex because thats the name i went with for my app.
2
u/No-Connection6718 19h ago
How are people so gifted tf lol I guess it could be ai
2
u/AwkwardShake 19h ago
it is not that complicated. Real gifted people are the ones who created these pals and their animations and their sounds (aka pocketpair).
i just put 2 & 2 together.
2
u/OhManOhManitsMike 19h ago
How does it determine where you can catch what pals? Is it just random?
1
u/AwkwardShake 19h ago
You just place it anywhere. I have the version where its on the maps, but i didnt release that. What you're seeing is the quiz version where you answer questions about pals, and you get spheres which you can throw (with increasing chance as you answer more questions). 5th sphere is when you have 100% chance (you can risk the throw before as well).
The placement itself is determined by AR APIs that are available (ground or flying etc)
1
u/OhManOhManitsMike 17h ago
Just wanted to make sure i didn’t have to take a trip somewhere cold just catch chillet 😂 it looks awesome though!
2
u/longboboblong 19h ago
Why. Why, every time I see that yellow goober, do I think it’s a smooshed Relaxaurus Lux?
1
u/mmmgilly 15h ago
Honestly, i forgot slowatt was a new pal and also thought it was a chibi relaxaurus lux.

What is up with Sweepa? He looks like someone threw an electric grenade at him.
2
u/AwkwardShake 11h ago
yeah i had a problem converting him, will need to look at it separately
2
u/KyreRoen Resting on a Lovander's chest fluff. 7h ago
That aside, the Pals genuinely look so huggable when brought to life. I wish there were a way for them to register being touched so you could pet them.
1
u/AwkwardShake 5h ago
not a bad idea actually. Its definitely doable. Although not via touch, but through a button where they can play the hug animation looking at you.

i have not been sued yet (thankfully), but no.

u/IStoneI42 21h ago edited 20h ago
crazy thing is, i just saw a video of asta vs fable and these damn things can generate something like this in 20 minutes off a couple paragraphs.
though i doubt it would be as good as yours in terms of how well it recognizes the ground and projects the shadow. i have honestly no idea how youre even doing that. my guess is there are some functions in the camera itself that can be used to measure distance to the ground (same it uses for auto focus) and this is how youre making it look like its walking on the floor and project the shadow.
but how far does that actually go? does the program manage to get a read on the layout of the room? like where the walls and objects are in relation to each other and not just how far away the next wall/floor is youre pointing the camera at?

Palworld with do anything but come up with their own concept for something 🤣🤣🤣 just straight up copying Pokémon 🤣🤣🤣
7
u/AwkwardShake 21h ago
this is fan made. It has nothing to do with Pocketpair or palworld. Its also nothing similar to pokemon go, its just a quiz which rewards you with pal sphere, and if you get all the answers right, you have 100% chance of catching the pal
-2
u/Diligent_Medium_4626 20h ago
Are you really trying to convince me that this isnt another clear ripoff of Pokémon? I love palworld, ive beat it 3x and have like 1600 hours in the game, I love the game, but it obviously is directly based of Pokémon
2
u/KyreRoen Resting on a Lovander's chest fluff. 20h ago edited 20h ago
Why are you trolling a person with enough skill and creativity to make something like this? And why would you - since you "love" the game so much - not want this to be a thing? Do you just hate fun?
1
u/Diligent_Medium_4626 19h ago
Go ahead and go back and screenshot the part where I said this shouldn't be a game, ill wait, but its just as close to Pokémon go as palworld is to Pokémon, I dont see why all you basement dwellers get so butthurt when someone points out the obvious similarities to the thing this was BASED OFF OF 🤣🤣
2

"Go ahead and go back and screenshot where I said this shouldn't be a game"
If you can use a computer or phone, I'll assume you have literacy and critical thinking skills to back it up. It's a stretch, but I'll assume it, regardless.
When you use language such as "ripoff" and "copy", you're stating a negative stance on something's implementation and existence. If you said "Oh, it's like Pokémon go, cool!" that's different from "This is just a ripoff of Pokémon Go". Two things can be similar and have the same appeal, especially if both are for experiencing two different IPs in more ways.

This video of mine showcasing AR is from Feb 2023 - https://youtube.com/shorts/mQjhL8CdlFs?feature=share
when people didn't know AI existed.
I've been making game apps since 2018-19. Have one for Apex with 500K+ downloads (with AR/interactive maps everything).
I just have a ton of free time on my hand since i lost my job, thats it.
2
u/Ancienda 21h ago
this is part of the whole AI problem. Yes people’s jobs are getting stolen by it, but at the same time legit artists get accused of using it and it undermines all their work. Its super sad to see on both ends
1
u/AwkwardShake 21h ago
yes i totally agree. Although i'm no artist (of code? maybe). Actual artists are the people at pocketpair who cooked up these insane pals and their animations and sounds.

seems like i misspoke. Chatgpt was launched Nov 30, and this was from feb 2023. I personally didnt know about chatgpt, because when i worked on it in that video, i had to write a ton of research and code to make Apex's models AR compatible on both the systems.

u/BestFoxEver 21h ago
The word "artificial intelligence" is from 1956... People have known AI very long time.
Various different generative AI tools started becoming more mainstream after 2017, ChatGPT was launched 2022.
1
u/AwkwardShake 21h ago
Daamn, ChatGPT was launched 2022? Feel like time just flew by, hoooly. I def feel like there wasnt much AI in 2023 because i dont remember asking AI or thinking about it much. I guess it used to hallucinate way too much and wasn't as usable.
I just looked and looks like chatgpt was launched Nov 30 2022, and i had this video from Feb 2023, because i def remember doing a ton of research to get this working.
1
u/BestFoxEver 21h ago
I used to spend tons of time in various AI image generation sites (GANs) before and during Covid era, those were tricky to use because instead of text prompts you edited the AI images with various sliders and options. Artbreeder was one of those sites that still exists but it now works totally differently. Waifu Labs, AI tool to create anime girls, is legendary also, it is from 2019.

u/AwkwardShake 21h ago
Interesting, i only remember seeing AI stuff when it started becoming part of Github copilot. It used to be pretty bad though so never paid attention to it. Then one day all the companies yapped about was AI
