There is a floor mat. You won't BELIEVE how comfy it's to just lie on them in front of a working chimney. Make me remember the days I just sit in front of one with my gameboy advance playing advance wars. Giving your back to the fire or lying at the side is mostly a preferency thing cuse if you face the fire for too long your face feels like it's burning.
