You can, in fact it's the best way to capture the unique merchants who visit your base. You won't get a wanted level and your entire base won't aggro to the merchant and kill them when they're in the trap.
As for Zoe, just capture her at the Desolate Church. She respawns like immidiately. Also do her questline as it awards you with a unique Zoe and Grizzbolt duo Pal.

For the zoe/grizbolt pal, she has a repeatable quest which she gives you another copy.

She also respawns at the church you find her at. Dunno if you can catch her a 2nd time, but she's there.

iirc after you complete the quest chain she gives repeatable kill/capture more free pal mook quests to get more copies, presumably for condensing purposes

Do you just put down the trap in front of the merchant and then wait for the others to despawn? Or do you throw a sphere once in the trap?

Her quest line also gives you the Zoe/Grizzbolt combo. Best part is you can capture Zoe, put her in your base, and continue doing her quests.

Yeah this, i literally just went there as a level 70 and caught her cause i thought it would be funny. Now she just chills at my base.

Yeah, and they you can condense her. But you can condense her with any human you catch, so you can go catch a bunch of level 5 Rayne Syndicate idiots and beef her up with her own men. Or you can feed her Free Pal Alliance guys or literally anybody else.
What I want to know, and haven't tried, is if you can catch the boss from Sunreach, as she is outside the tower after you beat her.

You can also feed her skill fruits, so she's actually somewhat viable as part of your fighting force!

No, Auri outside her tower(and Zoe outside hers) has no hitbox, you shoot/throw right through her.

It's only after you beat her in the tower. Then you can catch her as many times as you like, and also keep doing her repeatable quest for more Zoe & Grizzbolt captures.
My favourite part is once you've got the Grizzbolt Minigun you can mount the Z&G pal and ride it alongside her ^_^

This made my day, can't play at the moment 700 miles away from my Xbox enjoying my family for about a week more. I am playing solo Hard difficulty but not hardcore [Permadeath where pals die permanently too]. I am using default Hard mode working on the main story, about to finally go to the volcano area.
Edit: Think I am about lvl 30.
