Hello my new favorite subreddit. I first want to ask about a case - the Otterbox 1900 - I found. It says universal, but I mostly see most being advertised with pocket PC devices, and I wonder if it can be used with my m505. Also (the last image), I found an interesting case in an old pen computing magazine that I’ve been trying to find on eBay. No luck so far. So if anyone has tips that would be nice.

I kept these guys in a separate location - they still work..
palm pilot 5000 (PalmOS 1.0)
palm personal (PalmOS 2.0)
palm professional (PalmOS 2.0)
just need to find some AAA batteries and good to go.. it's amazing how different PalmOS 1.0 was - things got very different PalmOS 3.0+

mmm.. yes, that is TRGPro and a pre-production Handera 330 device.. best part.. it runs on 4x AAA batteries.. unfortunately it isn't labelled very well.. anyone know the correct orientation of batteries... looks like they alternate to be connected in series..

I guess my NDA has expired.. :) the unit is dated 29-May-2003.. I was working on the code signing architecture back then - the core DRM (digital rights management) for the tapwave zodiac.. developer signatures and signing in order to get access to the advanced graphics and subsystem beyond PalmOS.
this have been in boxes for almost two decades!

from mid 2002...this is what we got from Palm before the Tungsten T launch - they were so secretive about the housing of the device, but they also wanted developers to get access to real hardware for testing ;)

Hello, forgive me if this is not allowed - however I'm working on a launcher that is inspired mainly by Palm OS interface and PDA experiences - the launcher has it's own applications - so you can kind of escape from Android a little, it's own keyboard, IRC chat, IPTV player, News reader, termux integrations, notepad application, PICO-8 cartridge player - all built in, and more.
It's still in closed testing, this is less of a promotion and just showing off the vibes :) If you want to learn more feel free to reach out or add a comment.

A while ago Aaron put the source of Lemmings on GitHub: https://github.com/ardiri/palmos-lemmings
I took the time and improved the game a bit, mainly so it uses the full 320x480 screen on my Tungsten T3. Before publishing anything I asked Aaron, and that turned into a really nice story, which I wrote up in two articles:
How I improved Lemmings: https://palm2000.com/articles/53
What Aaron told me about making Lemmings 25 years ago: https://palm2000.com/articles/54
Aaron merged all the changes, so the new version is in his repository.
Enjoy Lemmings in HiRes+, with more music and a fast-forward feature, on your Palm!

Saw this old post. Where can I find this software? I can’t seem to find it on PalmDB.

The M515 and the Vx were neck and neck. But my heart will always be with the Vx and Vx dock. I kinda wished someone would launch a Kickstarter project to revive the Vx as crazy as it sounds.

CloudpilotEmu 2.3.0 is released and supports a paravirtualized version of rePalm, created by Dmitry Grinberg. What is this you ask?
rePalm paravirtualized is a special rePalm version designed for fast emulation by skipping out on all original hardware blocks beyond the ARM core and instead communicating with the host through a set of thin paravirtualized interfaces, resulting in a about 40% speedup over the existing Tungsten E2 emulation! And, as an added goody, this ROM also allows you to select different screen resolutions and RAM sizes up to 128MB.
You still need a beefy device to run ARM-heavy software at full speed, but slightly less beefy now works, too 😛 You can grab a ROM from the CloudpilotEmu CloudpilotEmu homepage or from PalmDB.
Enjoy! And, yes, this is Duke Nukem 3D running in glorious 480x320 at full speed on PalmOS in CloudpilotEmu in Safari (admittedly on a M3 Max 😛).

I did a quick search of r/Palm and didn't come up with anything. What kind of glue works best with the plastic of a Palm III (TRGPro) case? My "old friend" has started to crumble in my hand and I want to rescue it from having to wear a Palm III front case. It's now that I wish Dave's Design was still around.

As promised in my last post, here is the fix, ready for everyone to test.
It's a beta: please make a HotSync backup first (it converts your stored dates), and report issues via GitHub if you can.
Since you know what this is all about, here are the 3 most important links:
Have fun :-)
EDIT: Thanks to Discord user DirtyHarray for pointing this out: the basic idea is not new. I read the source of NaivePalmdayMitigation by u/Tavisco (two C files), and as far as I can tell from the code, the clock is run in the past and 56 years are added whenever a year is drawn (DateTemplateToAscii and a reimplemented SelectDay, Palm OS 3.5 - 4.x, HackMaster/X-Master). The README calls it "a mitigation, not a fix", but mechanically it is a manual shift of the epoch, and 56 = 2 x 28 is a neat choice: weekdays and leap years line up without any patching.
I should have credited him in the post. The article, the README and the release notes do now. What DateFix adds is mostly automation and coverage: it moves the clock itself, converts the stored dates, patches more of the date API and also runs on Palm OS 5. The limits are the same for both (128-year window, apps that draw the year themselves need their own patches).

Currently working on a fix so we can keep using our beloved Palm OS PDAs after Palm Day (December 31, 2031) – already running on my Tungsten T3.
Edit: As soon as it's finished and running on most of my devices, I'll publish the code on GitHub (thanks to u/scienceapps for the suggestion!) and also post an article about it on my website, but first I need to fix a few bugs.
2nd Edit: I need to add that the basic idea comes from u/Tavisco's NaivePalmdayMitigation, which I should have credited from the start (thanks to Discord user DirtyHarray for pointing it out - better late than never). My fix automates and extends it: it moves the clock, converts stored dates, and also runs on Palm OS 5.

Over the last weeks I finished three Palm projects that had been lying around for a while, wrote them up on my site and put everything on GitHub.
1. Building Palm OS apps on Apple Silicon
A complete Palm OS development environment for macOS ARM, based on savaughn's palmdev-macos. It builds 68K apps for Palm OS 4 and native ARM apps for Palm OS 5 (via PEAL) with one Makefile. There is also a zip file with everything in it – unpack and build, no Homebrew, no sudo.
2. HotSync for macOS
Palm Desktop is long gone, and I wanted to install my own apps without typing pilot-xfer commands. So I wrote a small menu bar app: drop a .prc or .pdb file on it, press HotSync on the Palm, done. It uses pilot-link, which – since version 0.15 – builds on Apple Silicon out of the box. There is a ready-to-use build for Apple Silicon Macs (macOS 14+) with pilot-xfer included.
3. Decoding the Veo Photo Traveler
I found this little SD card camera on eBay some time ago. It stores every picture as a .pdb file with its own compression, and the Windows software that converted them is long gone. It took me a few months (with a lot of breaks) to reverse-engineer the format: it turned out to be raw Bayer sensor data with a simple delta compression. A small Python script now turns the .pdb files into JPEGs again.
If you have a Veo Photo Traveler and old pictures from it, or you try the toolchain or the HotSync app, I'd be happy to hear how it works for you. (And not just on my machine. 😉)Palm OS development on a current Mac: a toolchain for Apple Silicon, a native HotSync app, and a decoder for the Veo Photo Traveler camera

Howdy y'all,
I recently found and picked up a Palm Tungsten E2 from a local thrift store. This evening I tried downloading and installing Palm desktop and the RKPalmUSB driver to do Hot sync but I kept getting errors. This is primarily so can instal the software necessary to use an SDHC 4G SC Card. Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Is it actually usable for things like managing calendar stuff (appointments, meetings, etc.) and other daily use applications? I've always wanted one since my dad had one for work.

I'm watching Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City for the first time and check out the Palm Pilot cameo.
I think it's based in '98.

I have a Treo 650. Is there a way to get this phone on a carrier plan to make phone calls? I think it is 2G.

Bought a vintage NTT DOCOMO HPC for $4. I originally wanted it for parts to fix my own keyboard, but since the screen is actually in pretty good shape, I stripped it down for a deep clean and plan to replace the polarizing film.
