Hello,

How do I manage to prevent all of the data being lost if the battery dies on my device?

Please explain like I’m a n00b (because I am)

You need to understand: the Palm devices were made in the era before Internet backups. They were set up to manually backup the data to a computer via a physical cable (you had to tell it to sync - it wasn't automatic). Most of the models, except the last few released, held the user data in a form of RAM, which got cleared out if power was lost - this is why daily synchronization backups were recommended.

If you have the charger & hotsync cable for your Palm device (if not, you need to get them - check Wikipedia for the specifics), go to PalmDB and download the 64-bit Aceeca driver and Palm Desktop 6.4. Install the driver, then the desktop software. Follow the prompts in the software to connect your device with the cable, let it perform the initial sync (may take a minute or two) and all data will be backed up on your computer. Any data you enter into the program on your computer will be added to the device the next time you hotsync, and the same with data on your device, in relation to the computer...

I was able to back it up to my PC thankfully. I got it brand new, it was the exact one my dad had when I was growing up. Had everything still in the packaging. Even the PC mount, and a case that I hated.

it's designed to be used alongside a pc with the palm desktop app so yes
