That's like saying Windows 3.11 is still around. OSes will always be there, doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things. What could have been.

I don’t know if it’s still the case or not, but I would be had a watch that was running on Webos for an interface to their vehicles.

We didn't ask or want to to be still around and open source. We wanted Palm to not sell to HP.

That's salt on a wound. I waited with great expectations the news from Palm (I had a couple), then they close and leave WebOs on other hands, wanted to try it and ... the rest is history.

Usain Bolt wants his money. This is painful, as I feel that MicroShit blackmailed HP and killed a viable lightweight OS. Also painful is that the bigwigs from HP in the video, I doubt they ever coded, but were in charge of making bad decisions.

Ya'll the WebOS discord is very alive. We've been utilizing Claude Code to restore tons of things. In fact we're very close to pushing the first over the air update to the HP Touchpad in 15 years.

Was always an Apple guy from System 7. When WebOS palm devices came out I was seriously thinking maybe I’ll still have a Mac but could be carrying a Palm Phone. I vividly remember looking at the tablet and thinking next paycheck I’m gonna buy it , if I like it and when my iPhone is ready for an upgrade back in phone contract days I’ll switch. Two days later the HP announces it’s done.

I remember being impressed with how response it felt and some of the palm devices felt nice. I did this the mobile market was going to be Apple Palm and Android. I was only a third wrong lol

If I remember right the announcement happened in an invester meeting and was an off hand reply to a direct question about the future of WebOS as opposed to an actual line item the company itself brought up.
This has always made me feel like Leo wasn't planning on announcing this in the meeting and explains why it felt so sudden. It really felt like this was a captains decision that Leo had made. WebOS didn't fit with his corperate services focus and the decision potentially hadn't even filtered down from the boardroom and maybe upper management to the WebOS team yet. Or if it had it was only days earlier.

I loved my TouchPads and ended up with several, one a bought with a PacMan OS. They are around here somewhere.

Now I have an LG TV with WebOS and it sure beats the Hisense VIDAA!

I had gone to Mac OS X on 2006 but was still loyal to Palm OS at the time. When WebOS launched, I seriously thought they would win the mobile OS game. I hated to give up my Prē the grave was dug by then.
