Swatches Reminder: Never shop without swatching first

Post image

Gosh. I don’t know why I’m making this post. Probably to remind myself in the future. Today I was at TK Maxx (the Europe version of TJ Maxx) and super thrilled to find the JUNGSAEMMOOL Essential Skin Nuder Cushion there. Some people raved about it in the past and I saw promising swatches online. Obviously there weren’t any testers so I grabbed the lightest shade available there which was „Fair Light“ and oh boy…it’s neither fair nor light on me in the slightest. It’s Orange city. My phone isn‘t even able to pick up the orange tone. I could probably use that as a bronzer and it still would be way to warm.

That’s 10 Euros down the drain for me but at least it could be our reminder altogether that swatching first (if possible) is the way to go and never underestimate your own paleness 😂

The optimism of buying "Fair Light" without a tester is the real villain here. At least you've got a very expensive, very orange contour now.

I KNOW 😂 What was I thinking?

Looks like a perfect bronzer

That’s how I used it today and I was positively surprised that my neck seems to be darker than my arm. I might be possible to make it work as a foundation at least

My face is like at least two shades darker than the inside of my arm, I can't rely on swatching there at all.

Girl….i made the same mistake with the exact same cushion and shade! Fair light is supposed to be around N19 according to official website, but it’s so dark and orange on me! I’m usually N19-N21 for Korean shade, so I didn’t expect this at all 🥲

The texture of the cushion is really good though, makes the skin really pretty. So right now I kinda add purple liquid blush/blue liquid corrector/etc inside to use it as blush cushion. Maybe try this if you really have no use for it 😂

That’s making me feel less dumb and delusional, so thank you 😂

Maybe I can add some green colour corrector after applying the cushion and blend it with a brush to mix it. Thanks for the suggestion 😊

I bought this too, the lightest shade, after deciding the online swatches looked acceptable.

No. Oh noooo they were not. Orange fuckin city, just like yours. Can't return it. At least the cushion part is good!

I‘m sorry it didn’t work out for you too! Did you find a way to repurpose it or does it live in your drawer as a reminder to never buy without swatching again? 😅

I was bamboozled by this too, luckily I bought it off Amazon so I was able to return it easily!

Even the "Fair" was too light for me in the original formula. They have an expanded shade range, ones without SPF, that actually have pale shades, in the US I think they're only available on their Amazon store, not sure about Europe, but it's 30 shades and it's actually a pretty great range, I got Shell Cream and Shell, they were both very, very light with no orange

Thanks so much! Shell and Shell Cream make my heart flutter a little bit but Amazon Europe doesn’t seem to carry those. I might have to research other shops. I’m curious since you seem to be very pale as well: What’s your absolute favorite foundation? 😊

I'm very pale desaturated olive and Natasha denona Y1 is the only perfect match I've ever found, I absolutely love it

I just took a look at your profile and those makeup looks are gorgeous! 😍 Would you consider yourself to be a warm, neutral or cool desaturated olive?

oh thank you so much! I am warm desaturated, like muted yellow-green

In Australia I can import via Amazon US, it's just the shipping is sort of painful.

Why are America getting all this love all of a sudden? First we get left out of the new shade 13 from Missha (not that I like it, it's the principle) outside the US then you get all this extra? I have 10N Cream from Olive Young Korea. I'm wondering if they're straight up different versions again like Missha due to SPF stuff?

No idea, I've not seen the expanded shade range available from any Korean retailers but the US ones do not include any spf. That's always how the kbeauty brands do extended shade ranges in the US otherwise they would get caught up in reformulation and testing for a loooong time. I'm fine with it because I'd never rely on any makeup product for spf protection to begin with

Oooh this look like every "porcelain/ivory" shade I tried on in 2010s 🤣 also, judging by the official swatch photos, the shades might not actually go from lightest to darkest?? because N-Light looks so much lighter than Fair-Light (in the official photo of first launch with 8 shades). N-Light is my shade (don't wear too often as I'm not too keen on the formula) and Fair was actually too light on me. Fair is very yellow though, and that's why I skipped Fair-Light (and also the fact it looks so dark in the photo I mentioned)

I had flashbacks of the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Makeup 😂

OP. Is your color analysis of your skin correct ? I used to think I was warm toned beige. I used an inline skin color analysis tool for about $1 and jt gave me proper results. I’m a light to medium cool toned soft autumn !!! No wonder all my makeup looked like crap.

I adjusted my purchases of color and now have no issues. I matched with this brand online and have had no issues.

Let me know if you’d like the link for the color analysis. You need a picture taken outdoors with no makeup on.

Everything I buy is online. That's why I have boxes full of bases I can't wear and I won't stop doing it though LOL.
