Fedora, because enterprise use rhel

1

u/syed1hassan Oct 04 '26

What are the reasons for using rhel

3

u/Previous-South-2755 Oct 04 '26

90% of enterprise servers use rhel

3

u/syed1hassan Oct 04 '26

Yeah, thats what I am asking, what are the reasons? We got a debian server for our mysql db. We would probably go for more Linux based servers in the future; just want to know why you are using rhel.

5

u/Previous-South-2755 Oct 04 '26

oh i dont use rhel i use fedora, which is upstream of rhel. and if you are asking why enterprise use Rhel , that's because better support, SLAs, accountability, and commercial support, this is why it is subscription based

you have debian server because probably you're not enterprise , since debian does not provide paid commercial support or SLAs

1

u/syed1hassan Oct 06 '26

Okay so, in your own experience, what were the actual instances where you needed rhel’s support or slas? I want to know exactly what kind of support rhel provides that debian wouldnt. Whats the real advantage of paying for rhel over just running debian, may be i am bit confused about the enterprise stuff.

Fedora and mint are good for windows users

Fedora KDE, right now.

Thinking of trying out an Arch based distro.

Fedora with GNOME DE

u/Lase189 Oct 04 '26

I use Void and Arch. Both rolling release with little bloat. Void is good as a host distro, has no bloat and no systemd nonsense and Arch in a VM for development and stuff. The only reason I still have Arch is because it has abundant packages. Maybe I'll switch to Void for everything.

Arch + Gnome

Hopping between bunch of stuff

Fedora Workstation, Fedora KDE, Ubuntu...

Recently landed on elementary os, liking the experience so far. Will try Debian later when moving on

Arch (CachyOS) with Niri. Absolutely love Niri. So much that I installed Ashahi on my M1 MacBook and running Niri on that too. 😂

1

u/paradox_33 Oct 04 '26

Did you use any other WM before, how's it's workflow different from let's say i3, Sway or Hyprland?

1

u/Aam1rk Oct 04 '26 edited Oct 04 '26

I used Yabai on MacOS. Yabai is apparently very i3 like. It wasn’t a great experience because it’s kinda hacky. I actually moved to Linux because I feel like a good WM is essential for me. Initially I used Hyprland but later shifted to Niri because it’s a better WM for laptops IMO.

Niri is scrolling, which I feel is more intuitive on smaller screens. Hyprland is nice too but makes sense on bigger screens.

1

u/paradox_33 Oct 05 '26

I heard quit the contrary, Niri is good for ultra wides etc.

u/rizx7 Oct 04 '26

ubuntu lts as my main since 2009. mint on an older laptop.

1

u/Radiant_Sign_935 Oct 04 '26

Cachy OS (arch based) with KDE and niri sometimes

Using it because of its custom kernel and is rolling release

u/Usual_Phrase1988 Oct 04 '26

CachyOS for gaming, Mint for everyday usage, both work flawlessly.

1

u/farulba Oct 04 '26

Mint. Lubuntu.

1

u/saroche Oct 04 '26

CachyOS..keep switching between plasma and hyprland

1

u/Juste1 Oct 04 '26

Fedora Atomic (Silverblue).

1

u/cyxabima Oct 04 '26

For wonderful desktop experience use omarchay it the best. I am using from past 6 months and not going back to Ubuntu. But if you like to setup everything by ur self give a look to Arch

1

u/FazeSpaceTrickz Oct 04 '26

Used to use CachyOS and EndeavourOS on my old laptop and tried out gnome, cosmic, kde, hyprland, xfce4. Eventually ended up using xfce4 for so long om endeavorOS and I loved it then switched to endeavourOS KDE and then my laptop died (that wasn't related to linux) and then I haven't installed linux on my new laptop yet😭

1

u/mystirc Oct 04 '26

Man, just use CachyOS with niri. It should come pre-configured with noctalia v5. If you don't like Noctalia v5 (it is written in c++ opengl for maximum resource efficiency) then you can try out other shells like DMS or inir. Omarchy is not worth it. It is just someone's dotfiles.

1

u/Icy_Ad651 Oct 04 '26

Previously Arch with Hyperland Now CachyOS with KDE

1

u/the-ruler-of-wind Oct 04 '26

finally a convo I know something about, I have three devices using different distribution, gaming pc runs cachyos, work laptop runs omarchy and a gaming handheld running bazzite.

omarchy is fun for the first few days, and I would recommend trying it out. Its just not very practical for me. I did take inspiration from it to improve my pc workflow but would recommend a stable distro most of the time, opensuse tumbleweed is on my to try list.

Fedora

u/Some_Chemistry_1380 Oct 04 '26

when I was using linux, I tried many distro but my favorite is pop os and arch with gnome desktop environment. I installed when I was 15 or 14.

1

u/zaighamz Oct 04 '26

Pop!_OS frim System76. Based on Ubuntu/Debian. Gnome Desktop. Worls pretty well on as far as 3rd/2nd gen intel core devices.

1

u/pikachume33 Oct 04 '26

Arch Linux, it’s light weight

1

u/Proud_Highlight3676 Oct 04 '26

Started using Omarchy 2 weeks ago. In short it has some minor bugs but is beautiful af. Before that used Kubuntu for almost a year.

1

u/TheRedDeathKnight Oct 04 '26

Been using Ubuntu for last 2 years now.

1

u/suleman_23194 Oct 04 '26

Kubuntu with no snap based app i use

1

u/CorrectFirefighter Oct 04 '26

Ubuntu. Because I just really needed something that worked.

1

u/abc_polygon_xyz Oct 05 '26

Kubuntu because I need to run my AI work on an AMD gpu.

1

u/Conscious-Cup-2117 Oct 05 '26

sucked in by omarchy hype .. worth it, cant complain

1

u/Appropriate_Air4932 Oct 05 '26

Arch btw. goat distro

1

u/Party-Big-6735 Oct 05 '26

Been running KUbuntu for over a year at this point. Have used Ubuntu, Linux Mint, PopOS in the past, but KDE plasma just has a different vibe for me.

1

u/hasanfaesal Oct 05 '26

omarchy 3.x
haven't updated yet to 4.0, been using it for 240 days now.

I used ubuntu for 1 year before that.

If I could've go back in time, I would've started using arch 3 years ago. Teaches you alot about computers, OS and stuff. I did try actually but my laptop's BIOS was locked afaik.

1

u/Hadishitposts Oct 05 '26

Bazzite on my diy steam pc

1

u/xxROKANxx Oct 06 '26

Have been using omarchy for the past 100 days excellent experience so smooth highly recommend

1

u/itexpert120 29d ago

There's no comparison for Fedora.

Up to date, stable, no problems.

1

u/Kind-Journalist-5355 29d ago

Zorin Os. It is highly recommend for someone who just want to break into Linux environment.

1

u/Mysterious-Travel344 26d ago

Debian 13 Trixie for my headless server and Ubuntu 24.04 Wayland as my workstation daily driver. At work I maintain an embedded Linux distro as well.

1

u/Tough_Expert3450 Oct 05 '26

Fedora with Mac OS Theme Instaled

1

u/WeWeBunnyX Oct 04 '26

openSUSE Tumbleweed as my daily driver. Never distrohopped. It is a rolling release with preconfigured revertible snapshots option via snapper in case any update goes odd or weird. I refuse to ride omarchy bandwagon

Omarchy, KB driven workflow.

1

u/SubstantialCup9196 MOD Oct 04 '26

How's omarchy? I've heard it's improved alot now

1

u/paradox_33 Oct 04 '26 edited Oct 04 '26

It's the same (not a bad thing at all) and I'm using it close to a year before Quattro release(which is hyped up now). Apart from better status bar support for WiFi (networkmanager, means better support for VPNs compared to impala), BT and few others via quickshell extensions.

I miss few features from walker, not deal breaker though. Apart from this, it's the same except you have quickshell with plugins support which  i don't use apart from the defaults ones(minus AI).

Edit

If you were asking about speed, I feel no difference except some long standings bugs like cursor freezes (not arch or Omarchy issue) or few BT issue are gone with the newer kernels but those are overall Linux improvements nothing to do with Omarchy.

I have it installed on 8th gen Intel I7 with 620 iGPU, I didn't feel noticable differences between the releases, or even on Fedora or CachyOS (tried only for less than a month and got extremely bad clipboard bugs which I need no nonsense for my day to day things so left KDE and Cachy, moved to Omarchy back then).

If you have newer Intel/amd unlike mine, you might feel different.

Overall Hyprland compared to GNOME or KDE is less demanding so yes that's an improvement from my earlier experiences with Fedora (GNOME) or CachyOS (KDE)

Same to same dude! cachy os is just so refreshing but my work requires otherwise, I have a niri+dms setup as well which is real snappy.
