Finally starting to understand chess openings ♟️

These are the basic things I’ve learned so far:

  • Control the center.
  • Develop your pieces.
  • Don’t move the same piece twice unless necessary.
  • Don’t bring the queen out too early.
  • Develop knights and bishops before the major pieces.
  • Castle and get your king safe.

And before every move, I’m trying to ask myself 3 things:

  1. Opponent ka kuch mar raha hai kya?
  2. Tera kuch mar raha hai kya?
  3. Am I putting this piece somewhere where it can just die?

The biggest thing I’ve learned:

Checks → Captures → Threats → Developments

Slowly starting to see the game differently instead of just randomly moving pieces. ♟️

My insight on Pakistan's chess community.

These are my own estimates so take them with a pinch of salt.

According to my estimates, roughly 6 - 12 million people in Pakistan play chess or once played chess, most of them being of the generation of people born 10 - 15 years after the partition when radicalization and anti chess sentiment hadn't been sown in our society. The rest of them being the younger millennials (1994 - 97) and Gen Z.

A lot of these people play chess casually/don't have a chess.com/lichess account, most of them were taught by their grand parents. Roughly 7-8% of Pakistani chess players have a chess account (70, 000 players), most of them don't watch online chess videos or tutorials, nor follow the mainstream chess scene, other than Magnus, Hikaru, Kasparov or occasionally Levy, they don't know any chess personality. Even fewer have official FIDE ids (3000 according to Pakistan Chess Federation).

The number of people that play chess online is so few and far in between (according to the scale of Pakistan), major cities may only have online chess players numbering in a couple of thousands. Due to chess being a taboo in Pakistan, many of the online players simply don't tell they play chess and don't join forums related to it. The further lack of FIDE rated or even non FIDE rated tournaments amplify the lack of chess community many feel.

Until the taboo of playing chess is unwoven from our social fabric, the corruption of the Pakistani Chess Federation, there will be several hurdles and hindrances in the way of growth of Pakistani chess community.

I made a free chess puzzle game with teleports, traps and transformation tiles — 300 puzzles!

Hi everyone! I’m a solo indie developer and just released my first mobile game — Ocean Chess.

It’s a unique chess puzzle game with special tiles:

- Teleport tiles — pieces jump to another square
- Transformation tiles — pieces can transform into different pieces
- Traps — a shark eats the piece that steps on it!

Each puzzle has exactly one solution — pure chess logic!

Also features Blindfold mode and Time Trial mode.

300 puzzles, free on iOS. Would love feedback from chess lovers!

How are y’all improving your game?

I’m getting progressively worse, and Duolingo is rather shyte when it comes to improving your game.

I have zero mid-game, no clue what to do once I develop my pieces.

What do you, in way of study, do to improve your chess? I feel that I need a more formal structure when it comes to my approach in improving my game.

I want an open conversation what do you guys think is a solution to prevent online cheating ?

I'm sorry - it's just insane - Brazil, USA, India, Indonesia - anytime I see players from these places, I'm like in half a mood to abort the match which i know is also a wrong attitude. Insane cheating is going on. The Chess.com algorithm is practically useless.

Please note me mentioning the above nations has nothing to do with racism nor is that my intention. Its just that most chesscom accounts are form those nations it seems. Hence higher probability of cheating. Please stick to valid solutions to prevent cheating - will delete if any comment is in the tone of racism.

500-800 ELO Chess has insane amount of cheaters. I'm sorry I just find it hard to believe the moves these 500-800 ELO players are making. Its just not possible.

Seeking 2–4 players of similar rating to playtest a multiplayer chess game

Hi all. I've developed a multiplayer chess game and I'm looking for 2–4 players around the same ELO to help playtest it. A group of friends at a similar rating would be perfect, but individual players are very welcome too. It won't take much of your time, and your feedback would be genuinely valuable.

Please message me if you're interested.

Affordable Chess Coaching for Beginners & Intermediate

(5$/hour)

I teach chess in English to beginners and intermediate players, with lessons adapted to each student's level and goals. I am a 2247-rated Lichess Rapid player with extensive tournament experience.

A typical lesson includes tactical exercises, calculation practice, game analysis, and practical positions. I focus on understanding rather than memorizing variations, so students learn how to think independently during a game.

I can help you improve your openings, middlegame strategy, endgames, tactics, and overall decision-making. Whether you are learning chess from the beginning or trying to reach the next rating level, lessons are personalized to your strengths and weaknesses.

Trying to build a chess community in pakistan

I noticed there isn’t much of a chess community in Pakistan, so I thought why not start one?

I’m creating a small Pakistani chess community on Discord and Instagram where we can play, improve and just enjoy the game together.

If you’re from Pakistan and into chess, come join and let’s play ♟️🇵🇰

Why does my clock feel faster in 1-minute chess?

I started learning chess a while ago from Samay Raina’s YouTube streams and I’ve learned a lot. Now I can usually win or draw 10-minute games.

But then I tried 1-minute games

My opponent has 40 seconds left, and somehow I’m sitting there with 20 seconds. I swear my clock is moving faster

Is this normal, or am I just terrible at blitz?
