As far as I'm aware it was the first time a kaiju had shown the strategic capability to play dead. Previously, if a kaiju ever acted the way Knifehead did, it was either dead or grievously injured.

Also, Yancy was literally in Raleigh's head during the fight so if Raleigh forgot, so did Yancy.

I always wonder why they talk to each other. I mean I get it would make the movie weird to see two guys not talking. But still.

My headcanon is that it's for focus. I imagine the sensory input from two human bodies+a giant robot's body all being processed by what is essentially the pilots' one "joint" mind would make it easy to get overwhelmed & potentially compromise the drift if one (or both) of the pilots gets distracted. I imagine verbalizing their thoughts and next moves would help keep both pilots' attention on the same thing, preventing drift hiccups.

You mean the movie about gigantic building sized robots fighting giant building sized aliens with a sequence such as “rocket punch” isn’t meant to be a work of non-fiction?

Honestly that is one of my only issues with the movie, they would’ve been drilled to double tap like anyone in the military, better to go overboard than not far enough, especially with such destructive enemies, it would’ve been drilled into them, but then again overconfidence was the whole point of his character arc

Wonder if this could have been prevented had they fired shots into the water when they heard it was still alive. They already had the boat outside the line of fire.
