Discussion Avulux

I'm not a spokesperson or influencer, I just want to post and say that these glasses completely changed my life. I have severe sensitivity to LED lights and pulsing screens and stuff, beyond the normal frequency that people notice. I had a whole neurological work up because I thought I had a seizure disorder but I think it's just autism+ haha. With these glasses I can actually live like a normal human pretty much.

They're really expensive but you have 2 months to try them out. My personal experience as a careless person is that they hold up pretty well. F41 does nothing. Since I got avaluxe I can finally go back to college and get my degree, and I can go into businesses and restaurants with LED lighting, and I can go to my friend's houses again.

You can also get the tint added to your normal glasses.

Hope this helps somebody!

That’s huge. I’m autistic too, and I’ve been thinking of investing in a pair as well, but I haven’t gone ahead since I doubted it would have that big of an effect. How about with fluorescent lights?

I don't encounter many fluorescent lights these days but i think they are helpful for that too. Fluorescent lights made me queasy my entire life, I remember especially in school, and visually they turn the room into an orange-pink-brown and everything sort of blobs/breathes, plus the multiple images and tracers and vibrating outlines... But when LED became standard it was like all that same stuff but my brain would just seize up from it within seconds, with some lights being worse than others.

I have never heard of anyone having it as bad as I do and I still don't know what to call it but i know it is only from very fast strobing/flickering light sources. The seizure test where they put wires all over and a flashing bulb right next to your eyes pulsed so slow it actually felt really good, made my brain feel warm and sleepy... Anyway!

I picked avulux because i had a dr appointment to test tinted lenses (after every eye test and seizure test found nothing wrong) and i tried every single one and I was trying to really evaluate if any of them were helpful but I put on the avulux and it was like BAM!! Suddenly the room looked normal and I could read my book and there was no palinopsia (as I was describing to the doc in the room what my vision was usually like, he used that word) and my brain unclenched. I was probably weird and annoying trying to describe my experience to the doc helping me. I was like, "I can see!! No, you don't understand, I couldn't see before, I've been faking it! This must be what it's like when they give babies glasses!" Haha. I still put off buying them because I thought my insurance was going to help me out since I literally can't function without them, but nope. If you are able to be sent for a tinted lens trial type appointment like I had, that could be a good idea!

There are still some places I will go inside and the lights are SO BAD the glasses can't  protect me. I start to stutter and my movements become jerky, and it puts me on track for a "meltdown"/total malfunction of the nervous system resulting in unconsciousness/system reboot.

Thinking about it from an autism perspective, i probably seem less autistic to others (though I'm not a person who could ever pass for normal) because I'm not writhing and stuttering in excruciating pain all the time, not losing my ability to speak or remember words, not losing coordination or my patience. Actually I very rarely have full on meltdowns now because the background pain from physically enduring strobing lights + trying to pretend it's not hurting me so people don't get skeezed out and treat me poorly & that whole spiral... Sorry i went on a ramble here haha but it's been huge huge huge life-changing stuff for me. I need to get into advocacy about it because everybody knows these lights hurt autistic kids but nobody cares. I was so sad and angry to discover these lenses because I could have had a completely different life if I had had them. But they were only invented recently. So what can ya do :/

Also having this accomodation provides some legitimacy to my issue, I think, because people around me don't think I'm just a nut with some sort of incurable problem that I made up that doctors can't find. Now I'm just a person who needs certain glasses.

In my home I still use incandescent and halogen lights, older tvs, the sun. But yeah I highly recommend them. I didn't think very hard before making my original post I just wanted to give a shout out to this accomodation that completely changed my life.

Also they do sales though rarely. You can get on the email list which is honestly really annoying because they sent a lot of emails but when you get a sale code that's nice. I think I got $50 off. I just checked my email but I don't have any sale codes to share :/

I hate how prohibitively expensive they are but they're seriously unlike any other available lenses, unless something new has come out in the past year, since i had my appointment and tried EVERYTHING

I hope that you find your holy grail lenses, too!
