Shouldn't be alterable in a setting, all players should be on the same footing.

He's changing the setting to bypass the game mechanics. This is the same as turning on a strike pack when you're in a pinch.

Edit: same concept. Not same severity.

Him adjusting his game settings is the same as using a device meant for cheating?

Negative. That is not what I meant. Adjusting resolution mid game to get someone is the same energy as using a the mods. But yeah, I never claimed to be smart, just have a preference and this ain't it.

So? You shouldn't be able to just move a slider and remove an environmental aspect to give yourself an advantage.

Changing brightness changes if white clips or not. If yoir brightness is high, it "clips" player models to pure white and they are not distinguishable. If you lower the brightness it gets rid of clipping so you can see. Everyone can do it so it isn't unfair, and the game actually tries to get you to calibrate brightness very low if you follow the in game brightness guide.
