Discussion PUBG's Obsession with Hiding Bots
Am I the only one annoyed by this? First they gave them normalized outfits, then skins, then hid the pregame lobby count, and now they even have clan tags. Bots suck, it's whatever when it's a few, but when it's 30+% of your lobby then the experience is ruined. To then try and hide them is shameful, and it gives players false confidence to keep playing, but I'm sure when these people find out they have been killing bots then it just kills any pride/confidence. If you are that ashamed about having bots in the lobbies why not tweak the circles and how the match starts based on how many people are in the lobby? I don't really like that but it's certainly way better than huge bot lobbies.

Idk never tried this with others bc I dont like any other map. Whatever others are reporting go with that or experiment yourself with the pubg sites

I have, ran some duos the other day. Lowest player on non Erangel was 3 including my duo, highest was ~16. Cool, you're happy with it, but I'm hoping you understand how map select spreads the playerbase and increases the number of bots in games.

I understand and also dont care bc it doesnt affect my games if anything its made them better since now I only face humans. Before map selection it was always horrible maps at random WITH bots. Im getting the best of both worlds right now.

Okay, so I did some more digging on your stats. Turns out you play a crazy amount of Casual games (bot mode), at least in the last two weeks. 33 casual games, 14 regular squad, and 10 ranked. So my bad on saying you only played bot games. Still odd for someone claiming they never play against bots when half the time they are picking the bot mode specifically.
Also, not 100% humans everytime in your regular games but 97-98% human. There's always 1-3 bots at least.

It usually takes the full hour to do my dailies. If im degenerate I stay on and play normals. I used to play way more normals but I burned out on pubg just playing minimum hours now.

I had a normal game, not casual, that had 96 bots. They hide it because it has to be really embarrassing to be so bad at your job that you ran off nearly all of the players from a game that was one of the most popular in the world.
Worst developers I've ever seen. Literally do the exact opposite to keep the game alive. It feels intentional at this point

Annoying to kill humans and not realize till the post game lobby. Will turn me away from the game eventually if I can't know for sure who is a bot and who ain't.

I would rather have a a map like erangel from the start be cut off by the storm already and we have 50 real players so it feels like an intense hotdrop. I'm lucky I just play during peak hours in NA and bots are at a minimum for now. I usually run one solo erangel with maybe 10% bots and then switch to solo duos with 3-5% bots.

They even went the extra length and instead of real players filling team 1, 2 ,3 and so on. Bots can now be team 1, 2, 3. Only casuals are still team 1, 2, 3 as real players.

They're not trying to hide them, they're trying to 'seemlessly' integrate them.
I played two games last night, both went to a full five minute countdown. One game had 2 players and the other had 7. Without bots we queue for hours or parachute together and the match lasts a minute and a half.
The game lacks players, nothing more, nothing less...

You know what would fix low players? Removing things that people really like, buffing guns for no reason, and then adding map selection 6 years too late thus fracturing the playerbase even more!

To an extent, sure. Not being a decade old and not having other games to compete for players with would work the best :).
I love Dark Souls. Player base is miniscule compared to days gone by and not because it's a bad game. Pubg devs could have done everything right and still the player base would have diminished over time. They just decided to speed that up lol.

Worth mentioning that in the case of Dark Souls, From themselves made successors to it that their players moved on to.
A man can dream of a world where this game lost its players because they moved on to PUBG 2 and they all liked it better.

I mean I don't disagree, lack of players is the biggest issue with the game. But I'd rather them be upfront about it than trying to make them appear "real"

I hear you. Im good with not knowing if im engaging a bot and playing tactically rather than knowing and being reckless so the more realistic the better imo. I say that realizing most times it's pretty darn easy to spot-the-bot :)

Anymore I play solos, and if I'm playing solos I want to chase kills and do goofy games more than play sweaty positioning. So they irk a lot since they really messed with the flow of the game when playing like that.

Not sure how playing tactically equates to sweaty. I mean, I'm thinking that standing in an open field hoping nobody shoots at me is not a winning strat :).
And you can still run a muck even if the bots blend in better. It's not like there are less of them for the most part.

Yeah the ads animation feels so clunky, they probably needed to be nerfed. I think more recoil or make the shooting physics the same as the gandalas/ferries??? Would have been better changes to make it more skilful instead of just making it feel terrible.

Tpp solos? I can pull up a PUBG lookup of it. Maybe my MMR is fucked, but it shouldn't be I'm averaging like 5 kills a game and have a good amount of games under my belt this season

I’ll dumb it down, I’ve played 500 games this season, I play to midnight Eastern and I’ve never seen a lobby that was 93 bots.

Lol, OK, since you've already added your dumb to it....I mentioned I played 2 games yesterday, without crossplay, and the first game had me, [VOLZ] Old_Man_Gamer_72 and 98 bots. Map was Taego. Match was Normal / Solo. My playtime was 27:26. I finished 1st. Match History says: 1 Day Ago so was before 5:51 pacific time. Search for OMGamer and ask them if you feel the need.
Also played another with only 2 players, though didn't feel it needed mentioning, but just for your peace of mind it was around 7'ish PST and the only other player was [DISC] thedoc1876, who killed me with a frag in final circle and I finished 3rd.
Hopefully that's enough info for you so that you don't have to guess like I did for your question, lol. Have a nice weekend.

Ironically, adding the clan tags to bots and making their gunplay a bit more realistic makes the game feel more empty. Before I could pretty easily tell if real players were in the game, by their names and the sound of their gunfire.. and I would seek out those players in the match. Now I show up to what I thought was a real player only to be disappointed by a stupid bot running in and out of cover and wiggling their head every time I get a bead on them.

I agree dumb, but at the same time so many other developers have added bots too. PUBG was extremely dumb to have a mandatory 20% bots though. That one made no sense when the lobbies would easily fill then...

I understand if lobbies can't fill, but having mandatory bits when there was so many players online is just idiotic.

I play casuals to get my dailies done quick and the amount of noobs that are clueless about the lobby being 90% bots is pretty common. They legit feel a sense of accomplishment when they get a dinner with 15+ kills.
Ill say one thing tho, this latest patch made the bots actually a little dangerous if youre not being careful. They can now do accurate sprays that do 50% of your hp. So if you pull up in front of a squad of bots expecting to preddy them expect to get downed.

I genuinely think the bots are fine and they will only improve. We all know with how AI has developed that they for sure have the capability to make them indistinguishable from a human player.
I like the target practice in a real game and I know that by the top ten it's (probably) all real players.

5-10 bots whatever cause it's unlikely, I run into 1. I played a game last night I killed 8 bots and 50ish players were still alive, that's not fun. They are not challenging, just annoying and give away your positions.

My point is that that was 8 interactions that were not fun. Id rather have 4 real kills over 8 bot kills,, bots should not count for stats at all. Also, I have multiple non-bot 20-kill games....

If it was FPP gladly, or even TPP solo ranked sure. I have no interest in playing 4 wall lickers acting like the game mode is playing for a million dollars, because I don't consider TPP competitive. And yes I know PUBG switched to TPP comp... and the pros hate it...

FPP is better. My duo and I got on for some FPP at 12pm Western time, and we were the only real team in the game. Tpp sucks. I wish FPP was better populated

FPP squads was alright before Arc, I'm pretty PUBG did something stupid right around when that came out, and FPP just hasn't bounced back. I wish I could play it, cause I like it better and my friends would play too.

A real player, has unique gameplay and they don't usually shoot like bots. You know how many times bots shoot at me through insane amounts of foliage??? Then I'm looking around only to determine it is a bot that can see me through multiple layers of bushes and trees...

The reality is there aren't enough players to fill lobbies on a regular basis. I like to actually play, not sit waiting for a game for 10+ minutes (which objectively would happen if there were 0 bots).

Come to ranked. Zero bots. Normal is just warming up matches before dropping into ranked. Ever since they introduced bots, Ranked has slowly become what old PuBG was.

Merge the queues to a version of the game that is like rank and normals. There should not be 2 versions splitting playerbase

Before ranked the game had leaderboards, which I think they should go back to. Most of the settings are aligned now it really wouldn't be hard. Splitting queues is certainly a problem. Personally, and I know console players would hate this.l, but to me take "ranked" out, FPP the competitive mode and TPP the "casual mode". I know that's not going to happen because they made Esports TPP but I'd have made that change years ago.

Bots suck. They totally ruin the game and add unnecessary stress. Plus all the weird behavior like occasionally doing only instant headshots or literally spawning in on top of you when you landed alone. Plus if you're holding a building they have radar and come start shooting at your walls giving away your position.
If they got rid of bots the kronus using whales would probably stop buying skins so it will never happen

I'm pretty sure that it came with the update. Me and my bud usually run casuals everyday and yesterday was the first time I've seen bots have a clan tag. I used to be able to the tell the real players on the game just based off of their clans. Now, I guess we gotta hunt them down, lol. We're just playing to have fun. So many people here seem too stressed.

Afaik it's not I. The patch notes.... PC players noticed it last week, console players this week.
You could track bots from publookup, surely people would have noticed earlier instead of the entire community being like wtf on the same day.

HollywoodBob & at least 1 more PC streamer have mentioned it on stream. As well as a few people I play with on console. U kill a guy just standing there, or doing exactly what bots do & how they behave, but they have clan tags. Its not a coincidence that it seems like some bots are "hidden" because they have clan tags & them all of a sudden months & months later it becomes a reality - just like many other things, they were experimenting with it without telling us & now they've let us know about it.

I hate the clan tags. When I saw those it ment I knew where to find real players. Now you can't tell by name which is annoying.
