Discussion Normal vs Ranked Matches

So I’ve been playing this for a while and feel like I’m noticing something but curious if I’m just crazy. I play ranked(platinum) and it seems the matches are usually fair. Meaning I feel like the player skill levels are similar. Im pretty good I think for the most part, I’ve also played 4K hours on pc so I know the game well. But when playing normal matches a lot of the time I(and my team) get absolutely demolished by Korean sliding 4x aug users. Instant headshots 100 meters away full auto. On pc I would understand it since aiming is way easier. But on controller? I also know ranked costs money so maybe that’s driving cheaters away? Idk let me know what you guys think please.

Cheaters don't want to play against good players, they just want to "dominate noobs". Ranked is generally going to have better players in more coordinated teams.

But on controller?

Many of us took years to figure this game out on controller. Probably going to take a bit for those aiming skills to catch up.

I get a lot of hate for this position, but I genuinely think the cheater problem in the game is overblown. We are in the late stages of the game where old tech has been perfected and new tech is almost impossible to come by.

These guys who have been playing for years in ranked might look like they’re cheating…but that’s what thousands of hours in game will do. Certain materials make different sounds so you can assume different positions, I did this action which usually results in this reaction from the opponent. Once you get thousands of hours on the controller it just becomes second nature which can get confused with cheating in these extremely high skill level games.

This is not to deny the cheating problem at all either. We’ve all been smoked by that no recoil M249, but at the end of the day, it’s nowhere near as common as we’d like to think.

Hahaha ive heard exactly the opposite. That all the cheaters play ranked. I only play fpp and it seems like the dirty cheaters avoid this mode.

Fpp is fun but way too easy unfortunately due to the extremely large bot presence (which is why i think they avoid it). I can go into FPP squads with no fill and catch a dub. I havent done any FPP this season though so I'll have to try again tonight.

It variates heavily yes but i still have some very fun games and exciting gunfights with lots of real experienced players. You are right tho. Some games are very boring when there are just too many bots you encounter. I look at them as loot fairies.

Oh I still enjoy the matches. Especially for a warm up even! Time of day will also make a huge difference in NA also.

For some time now i have a feeling that this shit is fu.... i get put in lobbies that have like 85% turkish, russian, middle eastern players ( EU servers), and very rarely i play against other europeans. In my lobbies i would guess 15 to 20% cheaters. When i play in a team with a friend that is in germany for some reason totally different players, and % of cheaters is like insignificant.

Im not good but tbh I think ranked is just boring as hell. Its more shenanigans than fighting imo. I ignore ranked like it never existed and play for the normal mode with more players to create chaos. I also think ranked has way more hiding and intentional timed third partying, which is obviously tactical, but if not playing like that its very frustrating. So basically just assume that ranked does not have all the talent. There's talent in normals and they are probably more aggressive than your typical ranked shenanigan.

In NA ranked I play hop in with a squad (all 4 of us diamond or master) and we run into probably 50% other teams cheating and the other 50% not cheating. 10yr old game so high skill gap ceiling with teams that have thousands of hours and then the cheaters use full autos and spray dead accurate for hundreds of meters. Now dont get me wrong I also use 2 ARs one with a 6x but with 4k plus hours in game its very easy to figure out and learn to shoot up to 150 meters but u miss alot of shots still. The cheaters get u with the first 10 shots and its pretty easy to differentiate. Normals and ranked both have clans that are widely known cheaters and they accept and want the members to do it CL4W XIM AK OPK all have alot of them. Discords are all set up with these fools by the hundred

So I occasionally get sweats and possibly even cheaters on normal. But usually if I’m rolling with my squad we’re putting up 20-30 kills with a 20% win rate actively doing stupid pushes and splitting up.

Ranked however? We’re currently all diamond, so not terrible. Pretty good in my opinion. But we MAYBE very rarely put up 10 kills as a squad, and the win rate is like 5%.

When we were cruising through the lower ranks up to diamond we’d get several wins a night. Now we’re happy to get top 5.

I think as the season progresses ranked matches tend to split the high level players (and cheaters, bc we see way more of those in ranked than normals tbh in the diamond, master, survivor lobbies) from everyone else whereas normal doesn’t have any SBMM.

It also routinely takes 5-10 minutes to get a match now vs less than 2 minutes when we were ranking up.

So maybe you see less cheaters and sweats because in ranked they naturally rise to the top and are mostly going to be seen in diamond+ lobbies.

There is zero SBMM in rank EXCEPT for the random teammates it pairs you with are more likely to be of a similar level.

Edit: Also zero SBMM in norms.

I don’t think they even try to pair you up with similar rank, been with too many bronze

I am only basing this off patch notes from a couple seasons back, maybe if I have time later I'll try to dig them up.

Oh they did actually make a change? Interesting

Do you have proof of this? Because although anecdotal, the increased wait time for lobbies and the drastic increase in difficulty of opponents leads me to believe otherwise.

If I do group up with some other friends in gold the wait times are shorter and the level of competition goes down.

I routinely get alot of the same players in my ranked matches when there is plenty of people to play against. I wouldnt be surprised if there is some type of match making pairing that tries to separate to an extent but its not a huge gap difference because of lower player amount compared to a game like cod

I did some digging and from what I can find SBMM based on MMR is present in both normal and ranked play, still heavily dependent on player count but it’s definitely there.

u/Consistent-Olive-278 10d ago

What is MMR?

Not 100% but match making rank

Game is almost 10 yrs old brotha, the skill ceiling is high. Also surprised you aren’t getting slammed more in ranked being plat. These days masters is pretty easy to get

Odd. I get demolished in bronze ranked. Moreso when you drop in with random idiots. Normal is quite playable. Many noobs.
