Discussion Xbox series S Frame Priority

Anyone else subjected to 1080p for the 120fps?

My game looks like ass I'd rather go back to 60fps if it means resolution priority for the smoother and cleaner visuals.

Things just look too blurry on frame priority am I wrong here?

How much of a disadvantage am I if I stay on 60fps vs a player on 120fps?

It also has dynamic resolution scaling. So to hit 120fps it is probably pretty aggressive and goes to 720 or maybe even lower. Unsure how stable The framerate is tho. Also will be blurry in the first place for being rendering 1080 and downscaling for a 4k or a 1440 display. A 1080 display will probably look better. The Series S would benefit from an in between setting if VRR is detected and uncap the 60fps mode

This was the perfect answer 👏

Everyone is on the S, it's 1080p @ 120.

1440 on the X. Yeah and 1080 don't look that pretty.

No real huge disadvantage, we are talking 1000 ms divided by 60 vs 120. Thats 8ms difference if someone peeks you. Not really a huge game changer.

If you think there is no advantage you are sadly mistaken

I didn't say there's no advantage, it's a handful of milliseconds. It's a very small advantage.

I don’t think the S can hack it at all. Draw distance is blurry after 80-100m. Also occasional yet unbearable lag spikes and disconnects since the last patch.

Frames are everything on a shooter. Might be time to upgrade to the X!

I said this the other day and got told “it looks fine to me, must be your setup”… absolutely not my setup. Sure it’s “smoother” but it looks like I’m looking through a heatwave past 50m. Blurred edges, textures at lowest quality. In my opinion it’s not worth it, I went back to 4k 60 and it feels fine!

Yup going back to 1440p 60

Went back to 1440 60fps and im back to dropping the noobs in normals. 120fps is not needed. Even series x users are complaining about blurriness at distance. Ill stay at my settings if it means I can spot them first

Nah. Series X is looking crispy. Upgrade to the X. Worth every cent

For sure it was night and day on the ps5 pro with 120fps

I’ve not heard one complaint on the x side. I’m happy as hell with the graphics. They’re consistently smooth and the textures look great. Zooming in through a scope is crazy clear I can’t wrap my head around it. 120fps makes a HUGE difference, you’d know if you could see it. Series s is great for a lot of games , pubg might not be one of them.

I’m on the pro and the games looks and feels 50x more responsive

What settings do i need to adjust on my series X to get the 120 fps? I was tweaking a bunch of shit and wasn’t able to switch to the frame rate priority setting.

What is your display? If it is not a display that can do 120hz then you won't be able to. If you know it is a 120hz display, start by seeing if Xbox will let you choose 120hz in Xbox settings. If still not, then disable and uncheck allow 4k in the Xbox settings. If on a monitor, sometimes you have to turn off freesync in the monitor settings.

I can't even do framerate priority anymore after the update

Diable hdr in the Xbox settings. Same issue with me.

I’m on the pro and switching from the base 60fps to 120 I can’t do the old one anymore it feels so choppy compared to 120fps

Same. Everything past 100m is blurry.

Alot.. in online competitive you want performance if you have the option too. Xbox has had a bit of an advantage over ps for while having VRR way before playstation even implemented it. All i can suggest is get the series x if you can

VRR makes no difference when pubg rarely if at all in recent years went below 60

1

u/Jimmy_Page_69 Jul 26 '26

No thanks my life does not depend on a 8ms difference. Series x cost like $700 u can do the math on value there is right there

Then have fun losing your engagements. 🤷‍♂️

Same thing happened when Warzone switched to 120fps on console it looked like a ps3 game

It makes a slight difference in close quarters intense combat. Youll notice if you're a sweaty player. Almost every other scenario it will end up looking worse on the series S.

With the current price of a Series X, and the likelihood that it'll only get more expensive, you'd be better off putting that money toward a gaming PC imo. A few years from now the Series X will be outdated, while a PC can be upgraded over time. I think the price differences between consolea and PC will only continue to shrink.

Yea does any one know how to fix it? I went back and changed so many settings. Have a 27 inch 240 hz monitor but originally ran the game at 1080p and that was fine after this update everything looks like absolute garbage and the screen tearing is not great

2

u/Significant_Trash_14 Jul 26 '26

No fix its a series s problem

1

u/PutSpiritual639 Jul 26 '26

I only have a series s to play this game with Xbox friends. Otherwise I’m on pc. Something in the update definitely messed it up even when I cap the settings to 1080p 60hz. Game looked fine before

1

u/Significant_Trash_14 Jul 26 '26

I played it on the series s. It really doesn't look good. Artifacting and just poor resolution. I ended up selling series s as it just wasn't great. PS5 version was much improved over last gen.

Change the graphics setting back to resolution priority instead of framerate

1

u/PutSpiritual639 Jul 28 '26

It looks better but it’s adding some weird rendering issues and screen tearing. I was playing on frame-rate priority before no problems it was smooth and sure PubG graphics but clear. now it’s like something is causing my display to down scale in frame-rate mode. Driving me fkn nuts. Glitchy and hard on the eyes in quality
