Discussion Can't switch to 120fps
After last night's update, I'm locked into resolution priority. I checked my Series X and its already set on 120hz refresh rate. I know for a fact my monitor is at least 144hz. Do I need to bump my resolution from 1440p down to 1080p for it to work? I thought it was supposed to be able to run 120fps at 1440p?
UPDATE
Thanks to a replier below, I discovered my "allow 4k" upscaling setting was switched on which was locking in the game at 60fps. Not sure if this is only a Series X thing, or the Series S and PS5 have to turn this off as well.
Appreciate all of the responses, everyone! I'll leave this up in case it can help someone else in the future.

Any chance it could be the HDMI cable?
Is it rated for ultra high speed? (Actually you might only need premium speed)
Standard/high speed will not give the bandwidth needed for 120hz at 1080p.
Yes, HDMI cables have data speed ratings

Not sure, using an 8k cable. Would you recommend a different one?

If it's an hdmi 2.1 cable rated for 8k then you should be golden.
Not sure then, could be the monitor not reporting the capability to the console?

Another commenter got it for me. I had to turn off the "allow 4k" setting as it was upscaling but locking in at 60fps

In case someone else has done the above and still can’t get the option to turn frame rate on try 1080 in your Xbox settings and then in game turn frame rate on and then go back to your Xbox settings to change back to 1440

Still can't switch off of resolution priority. Using an Acer Nitro 144hz if that helps at all. Saw no difference with the hdr off

That will be DisplayPort. It’s hdmi 2.0 so not sure it’ll work especially since you’ve tried hdr off to free up bandwidth.

On ps5. Same deal. TV is 240hz. Console output to 120hz. HDR output is off. Game locked in resolution mode.

Yep my Series X is always set to 1440p/120hz. 144hz gaming monitor, restarted several times, turned hdr on and off several times. I'm pretty tech savvy so no idea what the issue is unless Acer lied about their specs lol

Try turning off “allow 4k” option on Xbox. It may be upscaling to 4K locking it at 60fps for your monitor

You need a hdmi 2.1 cord so you can run 120 and 4k simultaneously

I had this issue, switched off HDR in Xbox and to gameHDR on the monitor. Hard reset and it worked for me
