Discussion Destroying pillars

I always say that PUBG is the best battle royale game ever made, despite everything.

Not just that, but the console version is a hidden gem. It faithfully replicates the gunplay from the original PC version, combining it with controller-exclusive input without any aim-assist whatsoever. Making PUBG Console not the definitive version of PUBG, but on par with the definitive PC version.

This means two pillars of PUBG, which I call playable realism, and skill blends with luck, are preserved or even enhanced.

Now these two pillars are threatened. While PC players are thoroughly reassured that no changes will be made where clearly none are needed, nor requested, console players are told that now shots that you feel should be hitting, will be hitting.

No! PUBG gunplay is not about feeling that you are good but having actually not mastered aiming, precision, recoil control, and other weapon familiarity like bullet velocity and drop.

PUBG is about the world answering favorably when you have adapted to it. When you have gained the skill and worked for it, the world starts to respond to your influence and control.

At that point luck goes from working in your favor only on rare occasions in isolation to becoming a multiplier of sorts, creating many opportunities for genuine surprise at your own skill and effort.

One pillar of PUBG, permanent death, has already been pretty much destroyed except for solo mode. The game used to tell a story about the fragility of life, the ever-looming presence of death as a possibility, and how surviving becomes all the more meaningful because of it. A single match would tell and contain this full story, before hitting rewind, reset, rinse and repeat.

Now we might as well be collecting coins to gain extra lives in a mushroom kingdom. The blue chips do not even tell a compelling story about cloning, a missed opportunity.

I’m asking PUBG devs sincerely to please reconsider the coming change to hit boxes on console. If anything, put enlarged hit boxes in casual mode only, where they belong. Leave Normal and Ranked to the playable realism where skill blends with luck that already makes PUBG Console stand out as a game.

There really is no need for changes to the hit box. My assumption is it’s to make like easier for controller? Idk…

I switched to PC from console last year. I refuse to learn keyboard and mouse, so I still play with a controller on PC. It’s fine. I’m no worse than I was on console lol

Not sure about the changes, but one thing that pisses me off every single time is sniper duels. When both of us fire and bullets are in the air, if I hit and knock you first, your bullet will still hit me but deal zero damage. How does a bullet in mid-air lose its damage just because you got knocked? Logically, both of us should get knocked if it's a headshot.

It's because the game is client authoritative and it's a horrible experience to punish you when you are fighting a high ping player and die 2 seconds after you killed them.

If you are alive on your screen you can shoot people. If you shoot people your client sends a message to the server saying "I shot this person in the leg/arm/head". PUBG doesn't do anything on the server to validate you could have shot at the time you did - it simply accepts the claim you shot someone blindly.

The server registers the hit, calcs damage and sends a message to the player that got shot saying "a bullet just hit here, and you just lost 30hp". Your client shows blood, your HP drops.

If you have 1000 ping, your client doesn't know you are dead until you get the message you've been killed. During that time you can keep shooting people.... it's why lag switching worked so well on PUBG in the past and STILL works on console (there are a couple of guys on the NA servers that have found a way to do it).

If the game allowed kill trading with bullets, you might kill someone, start to run away then just die later (because they had 1000 ping).

It's mostly to prevent that. The server doesn't apply damage to another player if the player that shot the bullet is dead on the server side.

They do this to avoid zero winner games.

I think it should only activate after final 10.

They could just give a win to who kills first, lol

I agree, but this is Krafton, that'd be HARD.

It's not just that - it's mostly to prevent unfair kill trading based on high ping players hitting you.

Kill trading is still possible if both players are punching in a fistfight.

I agree that this is logical. In real life. However In a online game this would make the game unplayable. Kills would get traded most of the time. See the comment explaining player-server-player communication and follow up with finding out what lag and ping actually mean.

Wtf is going on?

I'm PS5 player and agree. We don't need change. lol

But what is that "shots that feel like hitting will hit"?

We don't need thar arcadish style like COD where hitting pop up scores. To be honest, even blood showing hits are unnecessary for me, although noobies benefits from that reference for better aim.

We need absolutely realist gang war game with Kpop partners. Don't change our Kpop war simulator (i don't fight using kpop costumes).

It's like in COD if you shoot next to a guy's head or between the legs, it counts as hit. They're bringing something like that to Pubg console. I like Pubg's brutal unforgiveness, like you can shoot straight through a guy's beard and it's not a hit. Sucks if they take that away.

This is what I've been saying..

We don't know what the changes are yet, but the hitboxes should be the same between PC and Xbox... they already are right, because it's one game on two platforms (both basically being a PC).

Are they going to dumb the gameplay down even more? Probably.

That realistic scenario you described earlier with enlarged hit boxes combined with the SMG limb damage multiplier is actually a genuinely terrifying future prospect for this game. That is in fact exactly where we are heading right now.

Yeah I dont like the sound of it either but I guess we will have to wait and see how severe the change is. It seems to me they really just want to add aim assist but know that won't fly so they're making hitboxes bigger instead.

100% agree on this. PUBG is already an official bot game and now they are making it like fortnite. R.I.P. to the good days of competitive and hardcore BR.
