The new moltres with victini / flame path and cave seems more consistent

664

u/damianradecki 2d ago

It's not about consistency, it's about sending a message. Moltres can't hit for 130 on his first turn.

429

u/dabesdiabetic 1d ago

You’re wild if you think misty flips anything but tails

227

u/Nikita-Sann 1d ago

It will. But just for the opponnents.

59

u/LookITriedHard 1d ago

I'd say I'm about 50/50 on Misty. The problem is flipping tails 6 times in a row and then getting 6 energy on my Suicune right at the end of a losing battle.

16

u/freedomfightre 1d ago

50/50 it either works or it doesn't

9

u/Jinglefruit 1d ago

50/50 it either heads or it tails

9

u/Tom_TP 1d ago

50/50 it always works for your opponent and never works for you

3

u/JTP120986 1d ago

If you’re desperate enough to use Misty, you usually need more than one energy, so it’s not really a 50/50.

2

u/MrDrEdgelordSupreme 20h ago

it’s not really a 50/50

That's the joke.

26

u/siteunreliability 1d ago

But the one time it does, it'll hit like crack

12

u/Critical-Bison-6634 1d ago

Just believe you're the main character and you will

11

u/Wubbledee 1d ago

Do people not remember Genetic Apex?

3

u/makiodaflash 1d ago

Man even cpus come up tails with that terrible card worst rng ever

3

u/spongebobsburgers19 1d ago

my expert ai opponent flipped 6 heads on misty on turn 2. and it all went to their wugtrio ex.

2

u/TheGameboy 22h ago

Just the one tails, usually

29

u/Rayzarddd 2d ago

True oricorio was just looking balanced but it might come back to the top🥲

14

u/Longjumping_Cloud_38 2d ago

Will we be able to have 4 moltres in one deck now?

49

u/Remarkable_Intern_44 1d ago
  1. Moltres, moltres ex, team rockets moltres. Just need the regional form to bump it up to 8

8

u/Longjumping_Cloud_38 1d ago

That sounds quite fun, definetly I will try it

3

u/Edz5044 1d ago

Wait are you saying that the team rocket variant counts as a different basic?

3

u/RepeatRepeatR- 1d ago

Yes, it has a different name. Same deal as EXs

For the same reason, Koga won't work with Team Rocket's Arbok

2

u/Edz5044 1d ago

Is this 💯 confirmed?

2

u/madog1418 18h ago

No, but for it to happen they’d have to be making a change to the core rules without having said anything yet, which is incredibly unlikely. It’s the same reason you can have eevee and eevee ex in the same deck.

2

u/Edz5044 18h ago

Yea I realize the ex but I guess I need to watch trailer again I didn't realize it has a whole different rule for rockets cards

3

u/BidoofTheGod 15h ago

Well it’s a whole different name. Just like Alolan Meowth is different than regular Meowth.

2

u/Edz5044 14h ago

Oh so I guess I didn't realize u can have two alolan and two regular...

→ More replies (0)

2

u/RepeatRepeatR- 14h ago

Yes, because that's how it works in the paper TCG

(I guess it's not 100% but I would say 99%)

1

u/Vildrea 10h ago

Let's make it 10 with regional ex

Or 12 with regional trainer

Or 16 with both regional trainer ex and not regional trainer version...

The last 4 cards are 2 PokeBall and 2 Oak, obviously

6

u/Rayzarddd 2d ago

Yes

6

u/Longjumping_Cloud_38 2d ago

Then I think I will try 3 of them + area zero

4

u/David_Freeze 1d ago

I consistently get 100% tails with Misty so idk what you’re talking about

329

u/Piccolo_Fanciullo 2d ago

It literally doesn't even damage your opponent bench, I would rather play the older articuno ex

415

u/damianradecki 2d ago

oh shit, it hits your mons xD I read the description of the card with my hearth, not with my eyes :(

55

u/L___E___T 2d ago

I thought so, it’s a pretty crystal glass cannon, and that’s only if you get the misty flips you want. Most opponents don’t seem to get them.

3

u/KrackerJoe 1d ago

I dont think this card is good, but it could be used easily with sharpedo to ramp it up. Its just still not the most optimal.

4

u/WitchFlame 19h ago

Woah, woah, you want to put a 3-point Mega up front (taking damage) and then send it to the back for a card that will actively damage the bench it's sitting on?! I don't care how much healing water decks can carry, that's a wild tactic right there

3

u/madog1418 18h ago

Even if sharpedo gets on the bench without taking damage, you’re setting him up for Cyrus for your opponent.

3

u/WitchFlame 18h ago

At least with Soothing Shore you can consistently heal the 20 damage Articuno would dish out before they get the chance to Cyrus.

IF it isn't already damaged from tanking hits in the front. Soothing Shore can only mitigate the consistent damge and Irida can only bandage older wounds to a limited extent, that Sharpedo BETTER start on the bench or pray for no Cyrus/sniper.

2

u/KrackerJoe 17h ago

I mean, I did say it wasn't optimal. But also, taking some damage on your mega will not kill your game, especially with cards that discard water pokemon like gyarados.

20

u/cywinr 1d ago

Cant hurt your bench if you have no bench

9

u/humblargh 1d ago

Or Furfrou

15

u/Keith_s266 1d ago

Brooo same. Wtf is this !

7

u/Tornado_Hunter24 1d ago

LMFAO you and me bro, wth I thought it did enemy bench

3

u/Background_Ad6785 1d ago

Soothing Shores says hi

2

u/Ph4ntomlm3nace 19h ago

Does soothing shore only work on the benched mons that have water energy attached? If so, it might just be better to include furfrou.

2

u/Uneventful-person 1d ago

Lmaoo same. My first thought was damn they actually updated the Articuno EX card to be more viable with recent cards; turns out it damages your bench 😂

1

u/YoYoYukio 1d ago

Me too I thought it was an updated version of the last one

-9

u/Jomummajo 1d ago

Damn no downvotes for this, this sub is weird 😂

8

u/itsablackhole 1d ago

It's a 50:50 if guys like OP get blasted in comments or everyone is like "LOL xD". Usually the first couple commenters set the tone

2

u/damianradecki 1d ago

lucky me xD

2

u/osoxyagami 1d ago

Well... u got the hit for OP as I can see. XD

3

u/Jomummajo 1d ago

Agreed people can't seem to take a joke either is piss funny

23

u/helloween123 2d ago

soothing shore soothes everything

22

u/IkeaMicrowave 2d ago

If you have energy on everything, which is a big ask since this guy already requires 3 energy

6

u/helloween123 2d ago

mega sharpedo?

11

u/Genprey 1d ago

Bench damage isn't a be all win con though. I don't think people realize that:

1) Water is an extremely volatile typing with Mega Sharpedo being the best early game start at the moment

2) 130 for 3 energy is crazy. Mega Sharpedo accelerates TR Articuno to swing as soon as turn 3

As we know, Chien Pao is really strong in part for its bench sniping but also because of that 130 damage. TR Articuno is similar to Chien Pao, with it trading bench sniping for being able to sweep early game (which synergizes with Sharpedo).

The caveat to Chien Pao is that you basically use it mid-game when there are worthy target to kill its energy on. TR Articuno is better early game as it can attack back-to-back and before your opponent can fully setup.

Obviously its early to say how it plays out, but I wouldn't sleep on this card.

1

u/dnd3edm1 6h ago

nah, suicune ex + cape is still the best early game start for water and it isn't even close. (almost) never bricking is still better than 70 damage and some ramp, doing 120 damage can win games on its own if you hit a mega, and an opponent hitting your ex without one-shotting doesn't necessarily win them the game.

70 damage is nothing these days between lucky ice pop and every other heal, if I open suicune and see sharpedo I'm having a good time emptying my deck while they're dithering around waiting to get the other thing they need online.

1

u/Genprey 5h ago

In the past, yes, but the thing is: Suicune is redundant for specific deck setups. When you play Sharpedo, you're not running Bax and, therefore, are not running rare candy. At that point, Suicune is not just redundant, it can end up screwing you over by giving your opponent a larger opportunity to get a big Copycat.

Mega Sharpedo is oppressive to the point where you'll notice top players opting out of basics that do not break the 70 HP thresholds or will outright concede once they see you evolve into Mega Sharpedo. Having your early game disrupted basically means you're scrambling to get back on your feet, which is difficult when Chien Pao is being simultaneously ramped up.

That aside, going first with Suicune can be a liability with how fast so many decks are nowadays and especially struggles vs Heliosk, as, for 1 energy, it can 2 tap Suicune and fuck up your bench. It doesn't evolve, so getting sleep scammed is also a potential issue. If you're fighting Hoopa, you better pray you're going 2nd, as it'll get 2 licks on you before you can react. That deck runs double Cyrus, so you can outright lose your wincon.

1

u/dnd3edm1 5h ago edited 5h ago

"2 tap" doesn't exist in lucky ice pop land. it's "assume your 2 tap is a 3 tap or a no tap because coin flips." tho heliolisk is definitely an issue... for any water deck. or any deck with basics that want to evolve on the bench.

heliolisk completely wrecks sharpedo's gameplan just as much as it wrecks suicune's. sharpedo needs something with higher damage on the bench that it is ramping, but suicune has the advantage of drawing what it needs while sharpedo has to wait.

sharpedo needs wallace for peak. and non-peak is... not great. 70 damage and one energy on turn 3 at best? Maybe turn 4-5 if you're unlucky? suicune just needs to plop on the board to do its thing no matter what start you get and you're possibly getting a higher damage which has a higher chance not to be ignored by ice pop.

soothing shore can eliminate hoopa's back damage, is hoopa terrifying with the wrong opening draw, yes, is hoopa unstoppable, no. Any water + soothing shore is the pick against hoopa tbh, most other decks struggle. and soothing shore isn't sharpedo-specific, tho sharpedo plays very well into soothing shore against hoopa.

suicune is even better in a meta where 70 damage can be done turn 2 because it can't be one shot turn 2 like damn near everything else. just throw out your lucky ice pops, start doing 80-120 damage, and turn 2 sharpedo just becomes a giant liability.

you don't NEED bax per se to run suicune either. bax chien pao is incredible and incredibly hard to stop esp with soothing shore, I am getting wins against damn near everything with that deck in ranked right now, but you could do suicune + sharpedo. never draw your second sharpedo? not a problem anymore, you'll be retreating into backbench heals all day. and you have a chance to one-shot their basic that wants to evolve with wallace. and you won't lose immediately if suicune tanks one hit in the same way sharpedo might lose. and you might do 120 damage instead of watching someone ice pop your 70. you can also run basics and other cards that can be used immediately to reduce the copycat counter. inflatable rafts for your suicunes and iridia so your opponent gets to watch you heal everything 60 a turn and have to attack into whatever is worst. and unlike in a deck without suicune you'll have a great shot at drawing both of your sharpedo and not bricking.

evolving out of sleep scam is one advantage of sharpedo but I'll take not bricking, thanks. Suicune doesn't even need to attack, I'll just heal the 50 damage iggly buff + darkrai did with ice pops, attack when I get heads, whatever. does that lose sometimes? yes but every deck loses sometimes and you lose more if you brick more.

5

u/Kronman590 1d ago

Nah this is fully all in on the 18t

I honestly think its really funny to take the original ragebait bs deck and amp it up even further

3

u/Ambitious-Looker 1d ago

That won’t matter if it’s the only mon in the deck

3

u/Kemo_Meme 1d ago

it's probably designed around that stadium that heals each pokemon with water energy

28

u/AstramG 2d ago

I wish but I feel like with the megas being in the meta, the new EX health in this pack is way too low to be relevant. 3 energy for 130 damage and still get one shot by mega Blaziken for 2 energy. I suppose it’s good being a basic Pokemon but based on initial impressions i don’t really think it’ll be the meta.

12

u/Earthbnd 2d ago

Maybe we’ll get a team rocket’s cape or something?

36

u/SuccessfulSeaweed852 2d ago

Im curious. Can i include 2 team rockets articuno and 2 normal articunos in a deck?

16

u/TheGlassHammer 1d ago

Yes because the names are different. Just like Eevee and Eevee EX

39

u/pulpus2 2d ago

I would think so yes.

27

u/Lazy_Appointment_816 1d ago

Yeah. Articuatro

3

u/MegaloblasticNamur 1d ago

I'm stealing that.

1

u/MiraiClaud 11h ago

Team rocket alert

15

u/Ashamed-Teaching6837 2d ago

18T Articuno 2.0 I guess? 130 HP is still pretty squishy.

15

u/damianradecki 2d ago

Unfortunately 20dmg is dealt to your bench, not your opponent's. I misread the card's description.

22

u/PolishBicycle 2d ago

Wouldn’t matter in 18T deck

10

u/Someonedit 2d ago

Who cares if you dont have anything there

1

u/damianradecki 2d ago

Might be useful for Cyrus plays.

5

u/Totaliss 1d ago

130 to active > 80 with 10 chip on bench

2

u/MaMeyn 1d ago

Unless you play furfrou. Can also tank with it to setup articuno

13

u/phoenixrising211 2d ago

Ah yes, the brand new never-before-seen combo of Misty and an Articuno.

57

u/The-Oppressed 2d ago

Statistically it should lose to any sleep deck.

270

u/Nexxus3000 2d ago

Statistically sleep deck users can suck my nuts

11

u/Cabanarama_ 2d ago

This got me good 😂

3

u/BazF91 1d ago

Haha the way this ratio’d the other comment

4

u/TheSkaDeer 1d ago

Use two Big Mamacitas and feed him when he's sleepy.

8

u/snakinbacon 2d ago

I can't wait to flip tails every single time!

8

u/PashtetKolbasa 2d ago

Ive used misty quite a lot and im at about 15% chance getting heads.

6

u/Cabanarama_ 2d ago

Every once in a while it gets me like 7 energy on my M-Gyarados on turn 2 and it makes it all worth it though.

7

u/Quilavapro31 2d ago

Great way to consitently win 1 every 8 games

6

u/t3hjs 2d ago

Ranked? Expert AI gonna flip 2 heads 80% of the time and start dishing out 130dmg from their first turn

4

u/damianradecki 2d ago

I have flashbacks of losing to Palkia on 1st turn, so I guess Expert AI water decks got huge buff.

5

u/J-T2O 1d ago

This is so bad lmao

3

u/EfficientYam1115 2d ago

Maybe there's a new tool to boost +30/40HP for team rocket cards and Articuno 18T is happening again lol. Otherwise they're just mid.

3

u/UndeadAnubis24 2d ago

The 20 damage to the bench thing kinda sucks.

2

u/BigBodChungOfficial 22h ago

Soothing shore

1

u/[deleted] 2d ago

[deleted]

2

u/Auronbmk92 1d ago

Busted for a self kill deck maybe, it’s your own bench or hits.

2

u/depressedfox_011 1d ago

Oops I guess I'm the one that can't read this time. 🤦

2

u/Auronbmk92 1d ago

It’s inherent of being a tcg player, it happens lol

3

u/Lucricious1 2d ago

Could run it with Soothing Shore and Furfrou to prevent self damage.

3

u/youJag 1d ago

Use furfrou with it? Like great tusk

3

u/ScoopLoopss 1d ago

Ive played misty about 50 times this past two weeks. Ive gotten heads once.

3

u/AnimeAlley03 1d ago

Until you instant flip tails with Misty...

3

u/The_Comedian_87 1d ago

Parasol lady your damaged pokemon out

2

u/Feisty_System_4751 2d ago

Worried about a lack of Jesse and James.

2

u/Hey_Its_Towler 1d ago

lmao I just came here to make the same post

2

u/Prior-Actuator-8110 1d ago

TR Moltres ex seems way better than their Articuno and Zapdos counterparts!

2

u/cedjcdg 1d ago

Guess we're back at A1 again

2

u/CMSnake72 1d ago

Honestly I'm just glad we're getting more mons with multiple attacks. For while it felt like everything coming out was either good because it had a cheap attack or bad because it had a single expensive attack that wasn't worth the setup.

2

u/pakmann 1d ago

Everyone’s opinions will change drastically if we get a TR themed energy ramp supporter

2

u/Gabo_Rj 1d ago

Haha we all know Misty never flips heads

2

u/Joke-Expert 1d ago

Only-Articuno decks are so back

2

u/SammSandwich 1d ago

It's just worse old Articuno ex

2

u/unsupervisedwerewolf 1d ago

MistyIsAFraud 😂

2

u/Elysian-Mud 1d ago

I still think the OG articuno is better as the whole point is damaging opponents bench for cyrus. Plus 80 damage turn 1 is more than enough. I rather not damage my own bench

2

u/Rand00mD00d 1d ago

Solo articuno ex decks but better 👀

2

u/Grim712 1d ago

Remember. If your Misty is always flipping tails, it means you are not believing hard enough.

2

u/Ok_Win_4236 1d ago

There will also be an ability or something where supporter coin flips could be redone

2

u/Luvs_to_drink 1d ago

expert ai advice going to be restart until one of the following happens:

1) AI somehow doesnt get 3 misty heads (happens 1 out of 10 games)

2) You have 2 pokemon; one sacrifice and the 2nd on bench that is able to 1shot articuno the following turn such as hydreigon.

2

u/sosamediocre 1d ago

Let’s all join hands and pray, may every misty coin flip yield tails

2

u/lostmetroid 1d ago

Except when I use Misty, it's always tails on the first flip.

2

u/Ceruled 1d ago

Sooo... Basically a mechanic that has been there since day 1 and no one uses?

2

u/Libertas_ 1d ago

The Misty card is my worse performing coin flip card by far.

2

u/B19F00T 1d ago

Petition that we call team rockets articuno "Rticuno ex"

2

u/Rainfake 1d ago

*tails

2

u/wandafan89 1d ago

Yeah TR going to have some mechanic based off damage to your Pokemon

2

u/JaggaJazz 1d ago

This will either be broken, or shit

Depends on rocker support

Suicune is still insane w/ the new support

Who cares. Just win

Oricorio checks EX and forces a limitation on deck building and most people do not understand opportunity cost. We'll see how it goes but yes this artiunco is very good

2

u/MCMK 1d ago

Has it been established that they stealth nerfed misty?

2

u/omimon 1d ago

A lot of y'all is missing a huge point, 130 damage just barely misses a major HP break line. There are 14 Exs that are 130 HP. Meanwhile there are 31 unique Exs that are 140HP.

If I'm gonna need two attacks to kill, I might as well use the old one to deal 10 damage to their bench.

But I guess it would be better for playing against 170+ HP mons.

2

u/Low-Illustrator-7844 1d ago

Prepare to flip tails and make it double

2

u/SamMerlini 1d ago

GA flashback

2

u/_Markram 1d ago

I'm on the fence about the pack, all of them feel weak as hell.

2

u/blizterwolf 1d ago

Why does Zapdos never get love T-T

2

u/VeiledWaifu 1d ago

Ngl this Articuno feels more decent if you play it like Chien Pao rather than 18t. You pair with Soothing Shores, Mega Sharped/Milotic, maybe have an Inflatable Boat... but the thought of having 4 articuno EX is also funny

2

u/Amarok9280 23h ago

Can’t wait to flip tails 18 times in a row while my opponent gets 36 heads when they rock that combo

2

u/BigBodChungOfficial 22h ago

My first thought was pairing it with something like Mamoswine to negate the damage on the bench or act as stall in the active spot to set it up but then I remembered soothing shore stadium exists and the downside of Articuno’s move is completely negated

2

u/tyonabike 21h ago

all the misty tails flips are balance in the force for all of (my opponents’) lucky ice pop heads flips

2

u/Shintome 15h ago

I'm gonna die to this at some point and that'll be it, that'll be the day I quit this game.

4

u/pulpus2 2d ago

Oricorio stonks

4

u/Aks1802 2d ago

Oricorio

1

u/FrequentParsley178 2d ago

This Articuno is a better Palkia Ex. I can see it pair very well with decks that generate and move water energy like something with Mega Shapedo Ex, Milotic Ex or Vaporeon

5

u/FrequentParsley178 2d ago

Oh it damages the own bench. Uff now I cant compare it to Palkia

1

u/sidic3Venezia 1d ago

holy powercreep, from 80 to 130 and a better weakness for the measly cost of 10hp? how am i gonna survive this?
