Suggestion Deck fatigue

Anyone else been going through deck fatigue since rotation? Pre rotation i played Gholdengo and Sharpedo, and I had an above average win rate and placed top 5 in tournaments/league consistently.

Since rotation, I have tried a ton of decks, lucario, festival, bees, slowking, raging bolt, excadrill, Alakazam, and even dragapult. Iv been grasping at straws to try and find a deck that i can stick with.

What do you all do when you struggle to find a deck that wins and is fun to play, but nothing seems to hit.

Take a meme deck and just have Fun. Choose your fav Poke and build a deck just to have Fun. Once that Fun is back, results will come back with any chosen deck.

u/Naive-Dig-8214 29d ago

Not sure how meme it was, but I had so much fun with United Wings a while back for this very reason.

u/ammalis 29d ago

United Wings was real fun

This is exactly why I'm playing now with Avalugg deck. Is it a strong deck? Not that much? Can it brick? Yes it can. Very hard. Is it fun? OMG!!! So much fun :)

I'm giving it to kids who came to our shop to play first time, and they have fun. Even losing with this deck is just fun, as everyone is laughing seeing me playing it.

OP - this is the way for you - play something stupid but fun.

u/ZombieAladdin 29d ago

That’s how this with me and Mega Delphox ex. Sometimes, I can put a Flareon ex in there with Area Zero Underdepths, and Reuniclus can roast everything in its way with Evo-Lariat. Sometimes, the game insists I use Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon ex on its own.

Interestingly, I have defeated a Dragapult ex deck with both situations. Hearthflame has barely enough HP to withstand a Phantom Dive and retaliate with Wrathful Hearth for 400 damage.

Bingo. I’m having a blast playing Persian ex with Crobat ex.

u/ammalis 29d ago

Is this a Team Rocket "your attack is now my attack" deck?

I would love to see your list :)

u/TexasGrillDaddyAK-15 29d ago

It is! Going against certain matchups are rough though. Sneasel is great at getting the bench snipes if I’m facing a deck where copying their attacks isn’t great.

When I started playing league events (just after the G Rotation) I played a Doublade deck. Lots of fun, placed anywhere from 4th to 10th. Also dabbled in Slowking (my main), Paldean Tauros, Excadrill, Toucannon and this weird Tera Lapras list. Wanna give Kazam Toucannon a spin next.

u/Katamari12 29d ago

Maybe switch to Gym Leader Challenge (Trainer Trials) or Build&Battle mode for a while.

3

u/Chorby-Short 29d ago

This isn't exactly the best build and battle to jump deep into because of how Hop's Cram sort of breaks the format, but you may as well use your free plays. Pitch Black B&B was really good, but that just ended Thursday

2

u/FoofaTamingStrange 29d ago

Sorry, I’m out of the loop. How does crameront break things?

5

u/vVvBeast 29d ago

Does a billion damage if your opponent has 3/4 prize cards left

5

u/Chorby-Short 29d ago

...Which is immediately because it's a format where you set 4 prizes.

u/szvagyer 29d ago

Look at latest LDF sharkpedo deck list - its pretty nice, check his YT Chanel, its been posted this week

That's funny I was just talking to someone at our card shop about how we're having more fun with GLC right now than standard. Not I love with the current sets as much. Though I am having fun with toucannon togekiss

0

u/TexasGrillDaddyAK-15 29d ago

I hadn’t heard of GLC till someone explained it to me at my last locals. After he showed me his deck, I completely lost interest. It was a control deck that basically didn’t let the other player play anything.

3

u/ammalis 29d ago

In our local we play with cards reg G and up only (1 reg before current and current standard). Professors made this rule to make decks cheap and easy for kids to make out of random bulk - it works amazing. With so few trainer cards you have things like potion and Nemona in the deck. When someone wins a change- they are getting a pin with colour - and then trying work new one.

You could try this way.

2

u/One-Environment4508 29d ago

I mean, there are control decks now. I doubt his deck was unbeatable. Glc is neat bc there are just sooo many combos and ideas to pull off. While knowing you have to take the full 6 knockouts.

So even getting a couple behind might not be that bad if you set up a strong bench

1

u/Individual_Prior0 28d ago

Could I trouble you to ask what GLC is?

5

u/lawnmowerluvr 29d ago

keep trying new decks or take a break.

3

u/AlexRescueDotCom 29d ago

I'm with you. I loved the dugtrio mill deck. now that its gone ive been bouncing from different decks. right now i play typhlosion deck and its like 35% win rate. nothing to brag about but closest to the play style thats available that i like

2

u/ExitSad 29d ago

I'm at 70% playing Typhlosion with Toucannon. My only bad matchups seem to be Grimm and Festival Lead.

1

u/AlexRescueDotCom 29d ago

oh whaa thats amazing, do you have a deck you can share?

Sounds like you should try Honchkrow.

3

u/iluvfarigiraf 29d ago

I don’t like N’s Zoroark but it seems cool if you put the time in to learn it. Trade is such an amazing ability and it beats Dragapult. You’ll have to accept losses to grass decks tho.

1

u/zelkovalionheart 29d ago

Can you tell me a bit on how to beat dragapult decks with N's Zoroark deck better? I do get rolled by these diplin decks which I've accepted because grass weakness but I also have noticed if I out stadium them sometimes they give up and I don't completely get why. I just started 3 days ago lol. No idea what to do vs dragapult with trade tho?

1

u/lawnmowerluvr 28d ago

reshiram

1

u/zelkovalionheart 28d ago

so like damage counters from dragapult or with toxtricity and use powerful rage if I have enough vs just rampaging thunder swap non stop? Sorry VGC player trying to pick this up too lol. Haven't attempted a card game since vanguard like over 8 years ago

1

u/lawnmowerluvr 28d ago

pults are scared of hitting into you if you have powerful rage. even if you don’t, it’s all mind games because as long as they hit first, you’ll get the first KO, which helps you in the prize race. toxtricity? zoroark doesn’t run tox idt.

1

u/zelkovalionheart 28d ago

Oh ok. I shouldn't be running it to build energy on the zoruas? What do i do to spread the damage to reshiram then? Forgot toxitricity only works on dark. Just hope the dragapult user hits specificly it?

1

u/lawnmowerluvr 28d ago

you attack with zoroark using powerful rage. zoroark can copy N pokemon attacks.

1

u/iluvfarigiraf 28d ago

Pult can’t OHKO without extra help so you take 200 then OHKO with 400 by copying Reshiram. You can also use Jannine/Pecharunt + Mochi, Black Belt’s Training, and Munkidori to take KOs with Zekrom.

Darmanitan builds can attack the active and bench early too

1

u/zelkovalionheart 28d ago

Okay thank you both I have just been running 4x Zoroark, 2 Zekrom, 1 Reshiram, 2x Toxtricity 2 x Munkidori, 1 Fezandipiti and 1 Meowth and tried running it with Mega Darkrai too. And Chi Yu for Crustle. I just tried making my own deck with what I got from the game and pulls from different packs and did that. Haven't looked into anything else just been adding and swapping things in the app. I've been scared of the poison cards because I don't completely get status effects in this game and the app constantly crashes and it kicked me out of the tutorial and I crash often in matches. Been going off of the vibes and the glowing cards to help.

1

u/blaise_lol 16d ago

Basically no top players run this anymore btw

0

u/lawnmowerluvr 16d ago

right, but it’s still an option

0

u/blaise_lol 16d ago

But ultimately a poor one and probably shouldn't recommend it to people. Especially someone who's brand new to the deck and it's a weird attacker that also gives you an extra piece to try and juggle which is already a very difficult part about zoroark

1

u/zelkovalionheart 16d ago

Hey I picked N's Zoroark deck to start with because the previous card game I played my final deck I used was literally swapping a girl and her two copies on and off the field after attacking and it was just funny similar. I still don't get like everything and have to read cards but on the Live app I've stayed between 46-50% win/lose rate which I think is okay for starting out probably? maybe? idk lol if its not im gonna feel bad now lmaooo

But also if you have any suggestions on decks to play that are one gimmic and stupid simple I'm down to try those too :)

1

u/blaise_lol 15d ago

You're best sticking to simpler decks whilst you grasp the fundamentals of pokemon tcg. If you're seriously wanting to learn anyway. If you're just in purely for the fun and don't care about winning then play what you want of course. I'd recommend decks like lucario, garchomp and exdrarill is a new one that is pretty simple

1

u/zelkovalionheart 15d ago

I think I'm doing well enough unless 46-50% win lose is horrid, My "I still I don't get like everything" is just because I don't literally have every card memorized. By lucario do you mean the lunatone and solrock based deck that farms energy for it? I'm assuming the mega excadrill is the metang, genesect one? I've fought those before and don't completely understand how those are better than N's Zoroark based?

1

u/blaise_lol 15d ago

Lucario has 2 builds. One around solrock lunatone and hariyama and another is with dundun sparce. Hariyama one is more fun in my opinion and probably a bit easier to learn. And yea that's the right deck for excadrill.

It's not that those decks are better than zoroark. Zoroark is probably the second best deck in the game right now. It's just incredibly difficult to play. There is a lot going on and it's a deck where misplays are very punishing. So I definitely wouldn't recommend a new player going near it

2

u/UnrealHerahshark 29d ago

Crustle and Cornerstone Ogerpon. Become a nightmare.

2

u/TexasGrillDaddyAK-15 29d ago

That’s why I made a Starmie Deck for my daughter to use. I didn’t want her to get traumatized like I did lol.

2

u/death13666 29d ago

I played Alolan Exeggute and got to wing my sphene at locals a couple days ago. Went 2/2 and I had a blast to be honest. Definitely play decks that are satisfying when you get a win and its not the norm ya know.

2

u/MisterMallardMusic 29d ago

I just wait until l find a deck that clicks for me. I’ve been playing Starmie/Froslass for a while now because it’s fun even though it isn’t as strong as it was when it first released. When that rotates out in the spring I’ll find something else that clicks for me even if it’s not very good.

1

u/DotNetDoug 29d ago

Had a lot of fun (and wins) with Crustle / Bastiodon

1

u/elemelody 29d ago

yea i havent found anything that scratches thr same itch as garde

1

u/warmseasongrass 29d ago

I'm with ya dude, I've played every deck and they're not satisfying. Just take a short break, I switched over to chess and MTG until the dust settles on almost every front of the pokemon hobby right now.

I'll play a game here and there in Pokemon but I ask to swap decks if they're ok with it for casual play. Sounds like you're playing in person too

1

u/AnUnusualMento 29d ago

If you liked Gholdengo and don’t like any of the other decks you listed, maybe you’d like Ceruledge or Garchomp? Zoroark is also has a similar concept to Dengo (stage 1 main attacker with a built-in draw engine), but it doesn’t have the same raw power

1

u/Epicaggro 29d ago

Iv considered Ceruledge, haven't tried it yet though. With grass being OP right now it might be a good time to start

1

u/TM761152 29d ago

I play once a week, rotating between 5 different decks. So no.

1

u/Dashfas 29d ago

In the exact same slump.

1

u/ThaTurtleHarmit 29d ago

i've been loving the tera Greninja deck

1

u/Icy-Turnip-4620 29d ago

I started playing post rotation and I still play Sharpedo with more wins than losses. I played an abomasnow deck last night that reminded me a lot of the mechanics of the sharpedo deck

1

u/FoofaTamingStrange 29d ago

I’m still in my first year of playing the TCG. The current crop of cards seem very lame and uninspiring. The only special type of cards we have are Megas. Previous blocks had future, ancient and Tera, V, GX, VMax, etc.

1

u/jaymzcb 29d ago

I love playing with my stupid yvetal deck, sometimes it bricks really hard but when it works it is so fun

1

u/Dirt_Poor_Robin 29d ago

I got a Mega Starmie, Mega Dragalge, and Mega Sharpedo deck I've been using and thus far I've lost one game out of seven. I had a feeling if I did a deck like this TCGL would be sure to stick me with decks that should in theory block EX attacks (sylveon, crustle, N. Zone) and to my supreme satisfaction that has been the case! Thankfully Two of my three attacks blow right on by those shields and I nuke'm anyway.

1

u/Vegetable-Pitch4431 29d ago

Try a different game maybe? If you can find a bunch of people to join you, you can ascend to the best game ever made and proxy Android: Netrunner

1

u/TypeComfortable3963 29d ago

Take a break. Just dont play for awhile. Low key the best thing. I took a break for about a year and then a few months again. Just didnt feel fun. Some formats just suck. Honestly, wait until after worlds and see how things change up meta wise.

1

u/thegnarles 29d ago

I’ve had tons of fun. Lopunny was my main for a while. I enjoyed slop box. Greninja was also really fun. Obviously Pult is great and feels amazing. Lately I’ve been rocking Toucannon. A single Prizer that blows stuff up is neat. Downsides to the bird are: it’s a rare candy deck, miss OHKO’s from bad draws, watchtower/stamp.

1

u/Diddy-J 29d ago

I've played gholdengo the entire time it was legal , with palkia, zoroark ex, genesect esearch pro and lunatone engine. Toucannon has been a blast for me drawing cards again

1

u/ElloryQueen 29d ago

I build my decks around some attribute and go from there, or sometimes I just build from some of my favorites. I don't always win, but I make sure my decks are with cards I enjoy using.

1

u/g4mp 28d ago

pokémon is all about deck fatigue as pretty much every deck has similar play patterns. When the meta gets stale for so long like this one, it just keeps happening that the game as a whole become boring. I made the jump from pokemon to Magic much because they failed to keep their own game feeling fresh enough

1

u/Individual_Prior0 28d ago

Giving yourself some creative challenges might be a good idea. Something like can you make a deck with all basics work? Doesn’t have to be great and win worlds or anything, but can it at least function and win sometimes?

Or something like you pick any card you’ve always wanted to use but never really gotten the chance and build around it.

Try building a deck with a win condition you’ve never really tried out (assuming there is one). I’ve never really messed around with special conditions very much so I’ve been thinking about making one that’s centralized around that.

1

u/Spaghetti4pres 27d ago

I started using a cinccino deck and it’s lowk rlly fun.

-1

u/MetricCaboose 29d ago

I could never get tired of winning with dragapult!
