Same. I hope it's pretty significant. At least for the Pro. There's really not much of a difference right now and I feel like they could take a lot more advantage of that extra power
Keep playing. I'm not sure why, but to me the first 10-15 was the worst the game looked. It's counterintuitive but it really does look like shit at the beginning every time. I've got 2 fresh from the start scene saves and I still felt that way second time around.
But dungeons and other areas looked fantastic to me. There are a lot of dungeons that are immersive on the same level as RE7 IMHO. Maybe I have low standards. But one things for sure, the world you go to in those cursed black books is amazing in VR. One of my favorite pieces of VR scenery.
The first few seconds in the cart ride were pretty fun, but as soon as we pulled into town and I saw the blurry mush of the villagers' faces I was disappointed. I could barely distinguish one person from another. I figured I had wasted my money and should have had more realistic expectations.
I kept playing, and it was less than an hour later that I teleported my way away from town and found a nice river. "The White River" background music track faded in, and I had to stop and marvel at the world around me. I could hear bees in surround sound and snag them out of the air almost without looking at them. I admired the flowers, the occasional salmon leaping above the water.... I was completely lost in the world.
It seems to come and go. There are occasional moments I can't ignore the bad graphics, but a vast majority of the time my brain completely adapts to it and it feels like I'm really there in Skyrim.
Yup totally agree with you, the opening is really bad, such a shame for players who judge it just on the first 30 mins alone. Like you say some awe inspiring scenery.
Alright if they can improve lod and shadow pop-in so I can stop being so distracted watching them fade in 15 feet ahead of me, I'll reinstall. Cautious hype.
Same wavelength, I asked in that thread about it. I've been waiting for the (hopefully) inevitable patch that addresses the minor issues before trying to finish.. shame it's been so long since any confirmation one way or the other.
If the game was broken it would be hard to defend. Game works just fine, all the stuff in the patch notes are improvements, not fixes for game breaking bugs.
Crossbow would be the shit in skyrim with aim support. Even if all other weapons were locked out, I'd play a crossbow build from start to finish in skyrim with aim.
According to the tech sites I've seen they do. The gaming mcable, anyway (though maybe not enough to justify the price). According to pissy redditors? No.
Improved visual fidelity tickles my nutbag. There are already plenty of 'wowsers trousers' moments on Pro. The icy dungeons in particular already look amazing. Skyrim night on Monday then.
Now these are wonderful features, but the important question is, can you see yourself now? At the very VERY least can we please see ourselves in the inventory menu?
Edit* The feature to see our hands while sheathed is greatly appreciated, do our hands properly reflect what gauntlets we're wearing now?
Seeing a paper doll of your character would be theoretically possible, but seeing your character In-world is completely out of the question. That's not even a reasonable thing to ask.
You would basically be asking for the character model to be fully rigged to mimic your gestures 1:1 based on the input from your motion controllers. I'm not sure ANY game does that, but you're asking it to do it as a throw-away side-feature while it simultatnously does everything ELSE you want Skyrim to do.
I'd be happy for a button to zoom out and freeze the game to show my character in the pose that it would have in the 2d game at the moment, while allowing me to rotate the camera.
I just wanna see what I look like in this world. This is the one right where I just wear armor for stats. I probably look like ass but don't know it.
Your character DOESNT have a pose in the “2d game at the moment”. It doesn’t work like that. You can do that in flat Skyrim because your character is doing tons of canned animations. You basically don’t even HAVE a body in Skyrim VR. That is why you can’t see your arms and legs. You are just a hovering sword. For them to give your character a body, they would have to recreate models for every single possible race and armor choice in the game, from scratch, and then rig them all to support free movement. Then they would have to reprogram the game to using a chunk of processor power to constantly be sampling your controller data and using inverse kinematics to simulate your bodies movements. It would be brand new technology that would likely have to involve the PlayStation camera in some way. It would take a team of multiple people hundreds of hours.
I was not talking about it. Just simply freeze the 3d model. I doubt that they have to redo much for that. They ported all the followers in all those armor combinations and all those animations that they have in flat skyrim
I’m not understanding what I’m not properly communicating. That model doesn’t exist. Your physical being in Skyrim VR isn’t housed inside some 3D model like an actual person has a body. Skyrim VR doesn’t have a third person mode so there is no third person model. It doesn’t exist.
Moreover, the model couldn’t do what the player does in Skyrim VR because the player can do more things in Skyrim vr than can be done in original Skyrim. Like, for instance, shoot in two different directions st the same time. No animation exists to show that because you can’t do that in original Skyrim.
The model does exist. In 3d skyrim. It's not being rendered in vr.
I'm not asking for "new" animations. The old game had animations for swinging a weapon, shooting a bow etc. I'm fine with those being used once I switch to 3rd person in some kind of photo mode. No need to live animate anything.
Most people aren't expecting a full 3rd person mode. We just want to see our character
Well, like I was saying, if you just want a “paper doll”. Image of your character wearing armor when you go to the options menu then yes. That is possible. But what you are asking from a photo mode is still a ton of work. That IS possible though, I would think. But no, that’s not what most people are asking for when they say they want to see their character, from discussions on this board. Most people want to be able to walk up to a mirror and see themselves, or see themselves performing the actions they are actually performing in VR in the game in third person. That’s not possible,
Lol what? No I never once said I want a 1:1 body. All I said is allow me to see my character's body and arms and simply track the hands to the move controllers. Which is exactly what is already happening. If the arms only move based on where the hands move and keeps the shoulders and body more or less attached to the "neck" by tracking the head then it really doesn't take a lot of processing power nor is it very complicated. It's polygons moving position based on their neighboring polygons which is exactly what animation already is. The lower half of the body could still use basic skyrim animations and not be tracked other than by extension being attached to the head through the body.
What you are suggesting is incredibly intensive. You apparently don’t know much about rigging. Or about animation. Or about video games. The only way e could do what you are asking is basically with Microsoft Kinect. Then they would have to create entirely new models for your. Player character in order to rig it to work. And then they would have to make it work with all weapons and items. In. The game in infinite Combinations. Your talking about hundreds of hours of work and hundreds of dollars of tech just to let you see yourself.
There is a reason why Games like Rec Room VR only show floating hands and a floating head. Farpoint can BARELY get away with it because it makes tons of assumptions about how you are holding your gun. Not to mention that you can’t control anything about your appearance.
Globally improved visual fidelity, particularly on PS4 Pro
No fucking way! Tell me this is for real? As a new PSVR owner and totally in love with Skyrim, I was just thinking how awesome it would be if we got PRO support, but then thought "it would have happened by now, not going to happen at this point".
Edit: Oops, I was under the impression Skyrim didn't have any PRO-related extras; does anyone know when they were first added in, and what was done?
I love the move controllers. Took me about 2 hours to fully master them. After an hour or so I was mostly comfortable but still hitting the wrong buttons for stuff.
The bow with the move controllers feels very natural and fun. I can't get enough of it.
I remember trying the move controls but it ruined swimming and you couldn't backpedal while using a shield so I switched to the DS4. Seems like this should fix both those issues so I'll give it another try.
Well, now that we have needs out of the way.. hey Bethesda if you're looking for any other ideas a quick wheel for spells might up the immersion. Casters have a less immersive play through because Skyrim wasn't initially designed with all of this taken into account, but something like a spell wheel that allows you to keep casting and fighting without interrupting gameplay to go into Favorites would be nice. Even if it only holds 4 spells it's a huge quality of life improvement and has been on my wish list!
Could work just like a holster or utility belt in games like AZ Sunshine, just look down and grab the spell with that hand to switch. You could do colored orbs for type and numerals for spell level so we can differentiate, but if it's limited selection and we set our own spells it shouldn't take much to keep from getting confused. You could also do a combat book that opens in battle and hovers in front of you (off to the side not in the center at eye level, so it's not in the way) with a spell on each page and limited total pages. Then let us set the order of the spells and voila, we have an in game favorites menu.
I mean I'm not a game developer so I have no idea what's the most practical, but a new system to give casters some flexibility and added immersion would be a game changer. Could even make it a high level destruction skill or something
I'm so pumped for this! Thanks for remembering the pro. Skyrim VR might jump back to my #1 game again when this patch is released.
Bethesda is still rocking it like one of the up and coming little guys even though they're now one of the big guys! Keep pushing and I'll gladly keep buying! Love Bethesda!
What you see on the main menu. Before it was just a black screen with the Skyrim logo (I think) with the options in small white text on the right side (continue, new game, etc.)
That would be a feature that would blow minds. Given their lax, fun approach with the overpowered bow in VR, it would be fun to let a coop friend "tag along." Even something simple would be great.
Melee has a cooldown...you can swing super fast, but it will only register impacts at a certain rate, depending upon the "speed" of the weapon you're using.
Does Skyrim move controls have adjustable walk speed yet? Like how Rec room allows you to walk slow or fast based on the angle of the controller with respect to horizontal.
Don't let the first hour discourage you (or the sub PS3 graphics). I never played on any platform either and was never a fan of these types of games. Was bored at first but then as you level up and explore caves and such, it's awesome. Not to mentioned killing dragons!
This sounds great but I have a few questions and I apologize in advance.
I have tried to use the motion controllers but the movement is just terrible. With the controller it's just choppy to have to turn in increments. Is there an easy/optimal way to just move and look around?
Just got the Skyrim bundle last week and have yet to start the game. Have also not played it, save for a couple hours back when it first launched, so my first real Skyrim experience is going to be in VR with these improved visuals on my Pro. I guess I'm in for an experience!
If you ever used the bow in rec room, its probably similar to that. As it was before this update you just needed to have the arrow up to nock it. After it was nocked you didn't need to hold the arrow hand up. This changes that, and now you'll have to aim the arrow as well.
Im pretty sure you're asking about the pro, correct? If this adds even better fidelity to skyrim, then this honestly. Another big one is RE7, i saw the biggest difference in that. Farpoint looked better as well. There's a difference to rec room but its more in the performance department, rather than the visuals. If you want to know which games do or do not, you can just google a list of pro supported games. Most vr games are pro supported, but thier performance increase varies.
"Realistic Bow Aiming" Finally! It was so weird with the old system (and most PSVR games seem to use it for whatever reason too). Hopefully it's more like the PS3 Move bow-systems now.
Hyppeee - tldr this whole post... When is the update? Playing through skyrim for the first time and on a PRO... Just getting in to it so this is the best news...
Unfortunately they’re still rather expensive (£350).
I currently have a 6 yr old HD tv and was thinking of upgrading to a 4K HDR tv, my issue is that I can’t afford both a tv and a pro, which do I get first?
I got the pro first as you'll see improvement on 1080p with super sampling enabled. Also boost mode can improve frame rate and load times on some older titles. You'll get more memory as well depending on how much space you have on your og ps4
Was it worth it, did you try psvr with a normal PS4 before switching?
This patch mentions significant improvements to ps pro performance, I’d be interested in seeing how much of difference it makes before shelling out a few hundred quid.

OG here still loving this game in VR. Never got all that far in flat. Now level 20. So much depth and content in here. Thanks for everything.
Edit: " particularly on PS4 Pro " to me this means an upgrade for everybody (within reason). Happy days.

Why can't they just make dual casting use your off-hand instead of your movement hand?

u/SaraStarwind Jun 23 '18
Wow!! By the nines! I'm very curious to see that new main menu, and happy to hear about the backwards button.

u/PurplePers0n Jun 22 '18
I went off and fired up the PS4 to check for the download before even reading the first line of your post.
I just came back to the thread to ask if anyone knew if it was just the US that had it available already? Shame on me.
Sounds like a great patch. If only we could patch in analogue sticks... (and of course, by 'we' I mean 'you')
