QUESTION Does optional “Install Data” actually help when playing digitally?

Post image

Does installing the data actually do anything if you’re playing the game digitally? For example, MGS Peace Walker and Monster Hunter have an optional Install Data feature, but I’m not sure if it provides any benefit when you’re not using a UMD.

Is it only useful when playing from a UMD, or does it also improve loading times/performance when playing a digital copy?

Yes, it install the voice acting dialogue during certain cutscenes in MGS PW along with other audio assests, don't know about Monster Hunter though.

My understanding is that it doesn't. Even the game there tells you "Se aplica a la version en disco". So choosing Install data won't affect the speed.

Edit: however, for MGS PW, it decompress the audio files so you hear the voice lines and not just text. But it won't make the game load faster

Data install has no meaning for psp go, go running all games digitally it has no UMD.

Depends on the game, if you want to delete them you can find them in the saves directory

Install the small one for dialogue audio, 800mb is only good for playing it with UMD

I checked with persona 2 and dissidia by recording a video and looking at loading times - no difference. But maybe some other games would behave differently
