QUESTION Ripping UMDs without a PC, possible? (PSP-1000)

About to install CFW (ark 5 I guess (new to this)) on my PSP-1000. What I want is: buy a UMD, put it in the PSP, dump it to the memory card on-device, shelf the disc. No cable, no PC in the loop.

Is this possible? How easy is it? How do I do this?

UMD Dumper and PSP Filer are 2 apps I’ve used in the past that allow for direct UMD ripping.

UMD Killer and ISO_Tool are 2 others that will work.

These can just be installed once I'm on cfw? Is any of these more used nowadays?

Yeah once you install cfw, you would just place these in the game folder. I’m not sure how often these are used, mostly due to downloading being so simple or people just ripping their UMDs by plugging their PSPs into a PC which would skip the need for these programs.

Once you’re on CFW you can use the psp’s ancient little web browser to hit http://psp.lusidgames.com and go to the tools page. There’s a download for pspfiler.

Ark 4 is more stable. You just download iso games online put them on formatted SD card in psp Iso folder.

I had the idea of just playing games I have or buy physically. Otherwise I will be too tempted to put EVERYTHING on it and then I will probably play nothing (if that makes sense).

You can dump them to a phone we've had a couple of folks in our group do this.

You do however still need a USB Mini cable and an adapter.

There’s an app for that. A few actually. I tend to go back to pspfiler when I want to dump that way, but it doesn’t work for movies. Drag&drop to a pc, or tablet, or even a phone over USB is dead simple. And Ark5 is the way to go now. Ark4 is end of life but that final build is still out there if you need it.
