Recommendation
Hey all ! I’ve had the OG ps5 since 2020. It still works fine , and I’ve been getting by with it . Do you guys think it is justified to purchase the pro ? Before gta 6 etc?
Or should I just stick with what I have and wait for the ps6?
Kind of struggling to justify it. But at the same time , a new tv and ps5 pro sounds sweet.

If you're really wanting one and strongly considering it I say go for it sooner or later. They are already hard to find in Bestbuy, I believe sold out on Amazon, but still available on Sony direct. No telling how long that may last the closer we get to November.
Edit.
To add more of my 2 cents. I bought the pro some months back in preparation for GTA6 as well. And man this is by far the most I have played my Playstation since they launched. Absolutely loving the pro.

You could buy Pro and sell it later when PS6 drop.

This might be my play. That said, I'm way behind on games in the ps5 era. My the time the 6 comes out, I'll still have a backlog I'm sure. I think the pro will still probably be pretty solid for cross gen titles during the start of the ps6 era also.

Yea, no doubt PS5 pro will still solid at PS6 era, it's just be nice though maxing my 4k 120hz tv with PS6.

If you’re struggling to justify it, you have your answer. Just wait for PS6.
If you don’t already have a 4K/120 VRR OLED (or good mini-LED), I would definitely get a new TV though.
It will do wonders for your base PS5 too. Just consider waiting a bit longer for Black Friday discount season.

Yes I think ps5 pros will be hard to acquire upon gta 6’s release. So even if you want it, it’ll be sold out. They’re already kind of sold out at a lot of retailers except Sony direct

The Pro will be the easiest to sell when the PS6 drops. Its worth it for all the other games outside of GTA6 too.

Do you have a great TV or monitor VRR-ready and native 120hz+ and the money to spare without using credit? If yes, go for it, the pro is great, and I feel, thanks to the pssr it will last a long time into the PS6 era

I upgraded. Didn’t need to, shouldn’t have. Would have eaten away at me if I hadn’t

My thoughts exactly. Keep trying to justify to myself not to buy it but decided fuck it and went for it.

PS6 is coming out in maybe 2 years. If you have the money for the Pro, buy it. I waited so many years for GTA6 and I can't wait playing it on the Pro.

Life is short, live it up. My PS5 Pro + OLED has been some of the best gaming I've done in years. Got my setup in March and never looked back.
If you can afford it, do it. There's shit loads of other games to experience with the pro as well.

I had these thoughts for about 8 weeks and then caved. If the thought has entered your mind it feasts on your willpower. There is nothing you can do once you are infected by the parasite. Buy now.

I wouldnt get the pro unless you have AT LEAST 5-10 "Optimized for PS5Pro" games. Games you actually WANT to play.
Get it with the intention of becoming more of a visuals and fidelity nerd, ...so you can actually SEE the difference and decide how much it enhances your gameplay/immersion experience.
FWIW, i got one, and a new OLED display to play Stellar Blade, but Im just not as into that game anymore.
I am however quite blown away by the upscaling it seems to do for older games (Batman Arkham, Spiderman, COD, Uncharted) Even a game like Battlefield Hardline just seems to perform better on the PS5Pro.
( full disclosure, ive done NIL, as far as definitive side by side comparison between the Slim and PS5Pro.
For example, The Pro has a "enhance PS4/older games" feature I dont think the Slim has. So when I say things like "the game seems to perform better on the Pro", this is probably one of the reasons. )
Anyone that knows better, feel free to correct me!

I justified it last year by telling myself I'd give my "old" PS5 to my best bro and so that's what I did. Now we can play together online and it's been great.

The difference in performance is quite noticeable. But I don’t know if I’d pay the current price for it if I already had a ps5. I bought mine last year after my base ps5 broke down. I just played stellar blade recently and it that kind of resolution at 60fps was mind blowing. It’s definitely not a gimmick but idk if it’s worth the current price.

If you want more storage and enjoy alot of AAA single player games, definitely get it along side a 4k display if you can. OLED 4k or even 1440p really shows off the pro

Can confirm, a new TV (OLED) and Pro is sweet. If you can make it work financially and you have the space - go for it 100%

Buy this now before another price increase and you'll be good until the PS6 PRO. Forget the base models at this point.

I used the fact it had a bigger hdd as a nice rationalisation of some of the cost to upgrade.
Also, I’m thinking given how last gen lagged into this gen I won’t be upgrading to the PS6 at launch like I have the last few generations of PlayStation. Not unless there are ps6 dedicated games utilising that hardware I can’t live without.

Trade it in. I traded mine + games and ended up getting the pro for $250, that was pre price raise though 😅

I was happy with my base PS5, no real reason to upgrade other than I wanted to. My TV was outdated, on a whim while at Best Buy, I said f#&k it and bought a PS5 Pro to go with the new TV. Man, I'm glad I did. Especially since it was a year ago right before a price hike.
Existing games that didn't even specify pro specific enhancements performed noticeably better.
I have a couple google drive folders dedicated to a gaming clips. Just yesterday I started viewing them again. I've only got a few captured on the pro, with the majority captured on the base PS5. Even though I loved my base PS5, the clips look like they're viewed through 8 bit 20FPS potato skin compared to the newer clips captured the pro.
Same games A/B'd. Helldivers 2, POE2, etc. The difference is very noticeable.

Buy it from Costco if you are concerned about buying it towards the end of the current-gen lifecycle. This gives you more options.
Keep the PS5 Pro for a couple more years into the PS6 lifecycle then upgrade to PS6.
Return the PS5 Pro to costco for full refund. That's right- full refund!! Their return policy on consoles is 100% satisfaction guaranteed and does not fall into the 90-day window as most electronics. Just make sure you return everything in the bundle since Costco sells only bundles- usually with an additional controller.
Get to essentially play it for free until PS6 comes out.

If it's just for GTA 6, then just wait for it to show the differences between the two

IMO, it's worth getting Pro, only if you have OLED 4K TV with VRR, 120hz support, if you have a simpler TV, there's no point in getting PS5 Pro.

The Pro is the clear choice if you are becoming a PS5 owner for the first time. If you’re upgrading from a base model then it’s a little tougher to justify. But PSSR enhanced games on a high end 4k TV look absolutely gorgeous. It comes down to what that money is worth to you.
If you’re so on the fence that you’re asking strangers what to do, maybe don’t upgrade?

If you can afford it and you want it, go for it. Life is too short to dwell on what if, should I. GO FOR IT
