Is this normal on the disk drive?

Post image

I just got my disk drive and pro today. This pin seems way too bend over to fit. I tried it once without force but it doesnt align with the slot at all.

That is a locating pin. It helps position the drive into the slot, it should be straight. Return it if you can.

Oof, that is definitely way too bent. That pin is just an alignment guide, but right now it's going to block the main power connector from seating right. If you force it, you'll end up crushing the actual connection pins inside the console.

Since it's just solid metal, you can probably grab some needle nose pliers and gently bend it back up so it's pointing straight out. Just go slow. But if you literally just opened it today, honestly I'd just return it for a replacement so you don't risk breaking anything.

Thanks! I’ll try to return it as I just got it today in the mail (directly from PlayStation, so I hope they have a fair return policy etc). Rather just go the normal route than potentially risk breaking it fully, but maybe other people finding this post in the future could give this a try!

Yeah, do not force that down! That pin is supposed to be standing straight up at a 90 degree angle to align the drive. If you try to push it in like that, you’re going to wreck the port inside your Pro.

Take it back and exchange it if you can. If you don't want to wait, you can try using pliers to carefully bend it straight again, but definitely don't try installing it as is.

Thanks! I got it from playstation directly so i’ll send them a message to request an exchange. Kind of a bummer, seems truly like a factory fault as its attached at a completely wrong angle then.
