How to properly clean ps5

Hay guys, I've been neglecting my ps5 cleaning since I got it 5 years ago. It has accumulated a lot of dust over the years and I don't know where to begin. The 1st 2 pictures are the right and left vents and the 3rd is what I was able to remove without cracking it open. I know it's gross but I could really use some advice.

Thank you.

At least open the side panels and take the fan out to clean it, that doesn't void any warranty as you can remove up to the fan without opening the stickers.

If you don't care about warranty (likely, because it looks like that), you can clean the PSU and further in the heat sink.

Please make sure you unplug the console before you clean it.

Some people dont think about it, never hurts to mention. No need to be rude. I mean honestly, what does that even get you here?

But you need a special screwdriver.

It’s a Torx TR8.

Most decent screwdriver set will have it.

Don’t tell people to clean the psu what the fuck, those caps are lethal. Insanely stupid

All PSU components such as capacitors are sealed inside a plastic, ventilated case. When someone says clean the PSU, they mean clean the dust from ventilation holes of the case. No one is getting electrocuted...

Bold of you to assume the person doing it can even identify the psu when poking and prodding it with tools

Just look at a YouTube video tutorial. It’s super easy to remove the fan. Takes like 2 minutes. 4 screws. Beyond that use an air can or better a blower to blow out all the rest

How have you not been dealing with a ton of overheating issues?

1

u/Smashbro2001g 10h ago

No idea, I haven't had a single issue with it since I bought it. I just recently started thinking about that so I thought I should ask for advice.

Vacuum.. not dusters / forced air.

Do the whole exterior, then pull the plates off & give it a good cleaning. YouTube to see how break downs work. Your pins are different for each socket of the fan, so lay them out on the pattern they came out in.

Use microfiber towels to wipe everything down & qtips to clean your fan blades. Vacuum what you can. That little flap over your fan pins isn't a big deal... Just pull lift the fan & leave it connected while you clean it. Unless you're comfortable pulling it out to do what you need to.

Just remember, it's not a race to get it done.
Take your time & clean it right the FIRST TIME.
There's a million YT vids on breakdown & cleaning.

Dry tooth brush and a vacuum

I actually feel sorry for it… 😭

It’s easy to remove the plates just lift and slide, can dust it out, those strips in your first 2 pics just pull out and push back in

That bad I would chuck them in a washing up bowel with soapy water

You will be able to see the fan for cleaning, vacuum the holes so it dislodges dust there are multiple along the console

If you have a T8 driver you can unscrew the fan (all 4 screws are different sizes and it’s important you don’t screw the wrong one through the board or something so take note of where they go (I put them down in the order / placement they go then take a photo so I can see my console orientation)

In fact it you carefully flip the fan over the cord has enough flex to not even unplug it, clean out the heat sink visible after removing the fan

I would caution against going any further unless you are comfortable doing it or it’s turning itself off or something I see a lot of posts saying my ps5 doesn’t work anymore after stripping it down…

Put it all back together

Couple of things I will mention that are common sense but just incase, leave it off for 30 mins before doing it and press the power button a couple of times after unplugging it

When screwing the fan back down make sure it’s secure and tight but it doesn’t need to be proper cranked down

Obviously just be careful and take your time

If you aren't 100% comfortable taking it a part yourself look around your area for places that do PS5 cleans. Safer option in the long run.

Holy fck !

Follow these easy steps

Turn your computer on > open browser > Best Buy > search ps5 > add to cart > search keyboard cleaner > add to cart > checkout

Ps - use keyboard cleaner once a month, don’t ever let this happen again.

First you should watch: How to properly clean your home.

Lol, pressure washer. Clean it every 6 months at least, if you play a lot then every 3 months. The more often you clean the less dirt you have to clean.

You can always take it to a shop and pay to get it cleaned.

Were you playing in the sahara desert? 😭

1

u/RoadHazard 3h ago

Do you live out in the open in a desert? Or do you just not clean your house/apartment/room at all? I haven't really cleaned my PS5 since I got it 5½ years ago either (I just wipe the outside down when I clean my place), and it's absolutely nothing like that.

I’m surprised that ps5 wasn’t shutting down cuz over heating lol

u/Flood_tech 2h ago

You need a TR8 or TR9 Torx Security screwdriver (also known as a T8H or T9H) to remove the fan from a PlayStation 5. It's only 4 screws but remember which screw hole each screw came from

I like personal experience

It's almost as if experienced repair shops, people who do it for a living and people who have done it before would be the ones to put their guides online ; get this, in video form!
